Getting to know El Morro de Montecristi, the clock and the salinas - First part

In this occasion we met the Montecristi clock. The Clock of San Fernando de Montecristi is an iron structure shaped like a bottle of champagne and built in France by the watchmaker Jean Paul Garnier.
With an original value of 15 thousand pesos, today it is a symbol of the capital city of the province of the northwest region of the country.
The salt industry, together with the production and export of bananas and other agricultural products, together with fishing, the raising and marketing of cattle, goats and sheep, are the main sources of support for the economy of the city. Morro, who just turned 520 years of being baptized by Christopher Columbus with the name he holds, when comparing his promontory with Golgotha, Monte de Cristo or Monte Calvario.
The Path of the Crosses will guide tourists and locals to climb El Morrito in a cultural and safe way, through a reinforcement made all the way and the construction of security rails. It also has two viewpoints overlooking the sea and two swings to balance with the stunning view of El Morro and its beach and the second overlooking Isla Cabra.
Montecristi is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic, located in the Northwest region of the country. Montecristi was founded by Nicolás de Ovando in 1506 and repopulated by Juan de Bolaños and 60 families of the Canary Islands on May 30, 1533, it was depopulated during the devastations of Osorio in 1606, with whose population and that of Puerto Plata Monte was founded Silver. Then it was repopulated on April 25, 1879, as a Marine District, and then, in November of 1907 as a Province. Its capital: San Fernando de Montecristi.
