Yes it's very underrated for silly reasons. Just like the Yamaha CS REFACE. Put them together like I do the Microsampler brings the CS to life. And my word its AWESOME. I'm gonna upload some demos I've made in 2023. And see if I can drum up some renewed interest in this magical little sampler.
I know this video is 10 years old now but if you set the looper fx position to audio in then it acts as a continues looper! much simpler than this work around (though this is really cool too). I love this machine so much and have had it for years, it really set me down a path a am so so happy about all these years later. Hopefully one day korg will pick up where they left off!
wow I never knew that! lol : ) 100% agree dearly hoping korg will revisit this concept. if this version didn't inexplicably / infuriatingly lack a manually adjustable attack setting from the sample ADSR envelope it would already be perfect.
Lovely guitar ❤ Circulating this tip. Sloppy over-light knob fix. Gently pull off the dials & drop in slim silicon rubber washers, mine were from a DIY store intended for a garden hose seal. Replace knobs. This adds resistance & weight, making small parameter adjustments a lot easier & no more random skipping! It raises the dials slightly but not visually noticeable. Second tip, running the output into a whammy pedal will give you mono pitch bend capability. Full stereo bending is possible via MIDI of course.
Love your music and easy going approach to this. I also love the fact that it is so minimalist. I have been trying to save up for a new musical instrument for the past few years now but other expenses get in the way every time , but finally I am ahead and can afford to treat myself to a new instrument. I know I have made the right choice and maybe next week I will be gathering samples on my H4 and Rode Ntg2. Thanks for your video sounds beautiful .
Back again to say ive just been saving my thrashed up banks and reloading a blank bank to all bar one. So now the genius device is ready to do the business whenever I am ready. The MS really is the bollocks, and creating a blank bank is big tip to all users. The MS is crazy. It could drive you crazy. Its not for the feeble, the quitters or the fainthearted, but rather for those who ARE crazy, and cannot accept failure as an option... 😂
Great video! I know this is an old video but I see that their is still recent discussions as many still use it to this day. Since I am still starting out with the microsampler, and any easier method is more encouraging, I was wondering if you ever got a chance to try the loop fx with autogate sampling, as was suggested? Just wondering how does it compare to your workaround and does it work ok?
still loving the microsampler : ) still nothing else quite like it ! unfortunately i do not know the answer to you question, seems i missed the news on the loop fx + autogate sampling, intrigued to look into it
Same. I’ve had mine a couple years. I got it in mint condition for 100 bucks plus a kaossilator pro plus. Been looking for videos to help take a deeper dive into this instrument and make better use of it.
Great video. I wanted to trade my ms for a dedicated looper but I might change my mind. The thing is that I tried to loop according to your tutorial and failed. Sampling triggers but does not automatically stop&play when reaching the end of the pattern. Any Idea about what I am doing wrong? I double checked the sampling mode : trigger = note on & one shot sampling. Thanks for the video.
Very good tutorial. Was thinking about getting one of these. I've got a few bits I was unsure about if you might be able to help that would be great. Firstly, how good is the beat sync? I would be using it with an additional backing track and band and wanted this to build the loops over the top I was unsure if it would slip out of time. could it possibly lock sync with a Kaoss pad 3 through MIDI? Secondly, you mentioned in one shot mode if it detects sound beyond the designated bars it doesn't record or records over the first bit. Is there any way to over ride this? does it have this problem when in the loop mode? I use a lot of reverb so having the tiny gap at the end might be tricky or impossible. And thirdly and lastly. Is there any way to loop in 3/4 I read it only works in 4/4 but I wondered if anyone knows of a way you can 'fool it' into 3/4. Many thanks :)
Ben Rous sorry for the 10 month delay (i don't often check my youtube account). probably you've already made whatever decision you were considering but just in case anybody else out there has similar curiosities: - not sure if the beat sync drifts on it's own or not, but you can run the MS as a MIDI slave to another device and it keeps perfect time with the MIDI signal. I have a KP3 too and they work very well together. - the microsampler can't do continuous overdub sampling unfortunately, so in regard to your question two options exist : 1. use "one-shot" mode and accept a small, in most cases imperceptible gap at the end of the sample (depending on your accuracy). 2. use "loop" mode and accept a small one-time hiccup at the beginning of the loop, only on the first time a newly recorded sample plays back. after the sample has played through once, or if playback stops, from then on the sample will loop with no hiccup or gap (although it's pretty common to have a little 'pop' at the wrap-around point, which you can get rid of by using the microsampler editor software and a USB cable. actually the editing software is pretty nice and send data back and forth really fast, so this is fairly painless but no good for live situations). - so far as i know 3/4 recording just isn't possible.
GREAT video. I am new to the microsampler and was very frustrated by the pattern mode until I realized the problem. quick question. When you have that beatbox metronome recorded in pattern one but then you play the guitar over it how do you get rid of that part of the pattern? thanks
***** (sorry for the so-slow response!) you could use the "mute" button to silence any samples you don't want to hear while the pattern sequencer plays. first press the key holding the sample you wish to silence, if the light above it is flashing next you press the mute button. if you want to bring it back again i believe you press and hold the mute button and then press the key you wish to unmute.
awe...thanks for answering but unfortunately I had to sell to make room for the Ultranova which I sold to make room for the Korg Kross....I can't afford to hang on to instruments too long as I get bored and then want to get something else..since I don't want to be a hoarder that means selling what I don't use that often...thanks anyway!!
yeah i have a minimalist tendency to sell off old gear to make room for the next myself, but i still have the microSampler! they way you can record your own voice, add some reverb, and play it across al the keys sounds so awesome, that alone makes it worth keeping for me, plus it's so small. but you're welcome, have fun making music with your Kross or whatever's tickling your fancy next :)
Oh I know I sold it before I really explored all it had to offer but when I saw it gathering dust I knew I didn't have the time or the inclination to give it! And thanks yes for now no new gear for me :)
Does anybody know if the factory microphone on Microsampler will stand recording loud acoustic drums? Is this a normal dynamic microphone or some other type not suitable for drum recording? I am just trying some experiments overhere... and i know i wouldn't use a condenser on this purpose...
i like u to make a tutorial on how to use korg micro sampler on sampling things from iPod and putting sounds into the sampler and how to use the settings knobs and buttons please i hope u can do that for me and others that might ask same question or request but i like ur video tutorial very understanding thanx
I want to use some sampled noises on stage, my problem is: once I have recorded the samples I cant seem to access them when I next turn it on? I cant find a tutorial that explains how to save? can you advise
You have to write the samples to the memory before switching it off. The far right top button is named "write" Also - check out the manual, writing instructions are there in more detail.
@AASTRANGE you need to make a (relatively simple) DIY modification to use a foot switch with the MS - check out the full video description for a tutorial link :)
that rug really ties the room together.
That keyboard is a future classic.

How do you set it up? Im trying to live loop my bass and am terrified of solder lol

The birds make the video so peaceful

Thanks. This will become handy. Still waiting for my MS. Only a few days left. Thanks again!

I like the birds singing...are real ones outside in the nature?
Is there a way to wire the standard foot pedal to trigger the pattern sequencer on and off instead of sample?
The Microsampler never fails to amaze. Fantom Aeronautics is Microsampler heavy.
a very underrated little instrument!
@@tarotvision6810 you are not wrong. We run 2 here 😆
very good auto looping demonstration ;)

yes (can save up to 16 sequencer patterns)
VERY informative. That's how you do it!

I meant dude, bloody auto correct!
Awesome! I thought it was just doing something wrong...
Youre not.
@mark01318 you need help, man. seriously.
Fucking A.
