After Carol tricked Harvey and he laughed, he also hugged her and kissed her cheek. I've seen the whole scene before but most of the time its cut. Such a warm moment, I wish they wouldn't edit these episodes so heavily.
Such a great episode. My favorite part was Bobbie's performance of "Sweet Peony". Such a well-written song that was composed by Bobbie and I loved seeing the early stages of her dance routines.
I agree I'm loving this episode and I have always had a soft spot for Bobbie Gentry - such a beautiful, smokey voice and a great singer-songwriter too.
Harvey could play any character the talented writers on this show could come up with. He was so incredibly talented, I really don't think he knew just how wonderful he was.....but we certainly did!
Very similar to the dress (and hairstyle) worn by Ellen Burstyn in the Exorcist during the party scene where Reagan says to Burke Demmings you're gonna die upstairs and later Chris MacNeil gives Reagan a bath while wearing the silver dress with same hairstyle that Carol Burnett also wears.
I don't agree with the criticisms in this thread of "Sweete Peony." Bobbie did lip-synch the first part of it to the "Local Gentry" album version of the song, but then it switched to a live version with the band and the choreographed dancing. When that happened, her mic must have been turned down too low, but that's not her fault. Overall, it was a good performance of an underrated song in her catalog.
There are trolls everywhere and I learned to ignore them as they are miserable humans who attempt to bring successful people down. But I don't see the widespread criticism you mention. I see one troll and his post is at the bottom because it was down-voted so many times. People knowledgeable about music know how good that song is.
Bobbi Gentry's solo was appallingly bad! Her voice was so weak that she could hardly be heard, and she sounded like she was half asleep. The song was repetitious and banal. This was a TERRIBLE performance that should have been cut from the show. Just awful!
I'm pretty sure it's pants..... Like harem pants ....look at 0:04 - 0:10 you can see the split. It makes more sense when you realize they are harem pants.
Didn't appreciate the politics?? You mean where they talked about what a racist George Wallace was? That's not politics, that's history. Wow, thank you for admitting that you're stupid enough to vote for Donald Trump. I can spot you people 10 miles away.
Let’s face it, the George Gobels schtick when he came out onstage is way too campy and old fashioned to make us laugh in 2022 or 1968. The guy needs therapy, hello. Even Carol couldnt save it…such a weird sense of humor he had. Not funny, in my opinion…this episode is a real stinker, to be honest except for Bobby Gentry in the apricot bellbottoms, fake playing the guitar and gurgling God knows what, but those dancers and the band are EVERYTHING. And the neighbors sketch makes up for all of it. Ha. But OUCH on the joke about South Korea! Times have changed. The work in this episode is verrrrrrry rough around the edges like Laugh In was. Fun to watch, and very campy.
" Who the heck is Bobbie Gentry?" Let me inform you. She wrote and recorded two songs that have become classics. Her, Ode to Billie Joe, has sold 50 million records on over a 100 covers by other artists. She received four grammys for her classic recording . Her classic song , Fancy, has sold nearly 30 million records on a dozen covers. Ode to Billie Joe placed at #191 on Rolling Stone magazines 500 greatest songs of all time. Fancy placed at #31 of the top 100 country songs of all time issue. She had a successful television series on the B.B.C 1968-71. She was voted top female act on the Las Vegas strip four years running. She amassed a fortune of over 20 million dollars when she retired in 1981. In 2018 her box set, The Girl from Chickasaw County: The Complete Capitol Masters, sold 20,000 sets at nearly 100 bucks a pop and earned a 2019 grammy nomination for best historical recording. In 2021, she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
The sublime originality of Bobbie Gentry's, Sweet Peony, is still timeless and fresh in 2022.
After Carol tricked Harvey and he laughed, he also hugged her and kissed her cheek. I've seen the whole scene before but most of the time its cut. Such a warm moment, I wish they wouldn't edit these episodes so heavily.
I absolutely love this one! It shows how well those folks worked together, laughed together, and just had a great time at work.
One of the greatest shows ever

Its great!!! So many people on here commenting that they don't like it. I bet they think Bette Midler can sing, 🤣 . Bobby is great!
Carol had Bobbie Gentry on a few times... I think her singing career was sadly all but over by the early 80s, having gotten her fill of stardom.
Carol looks stunning in this outfit
I don't like it.
Yes she sure does ❤
That last # was just incredibly original and enchanting.!!!!
Kudos to those talented dancers and a superb orchestration.!!!!!
Harvey Korman was so so good wasn’t he?
Harvey could play any character the talented writers on this show could come up with. He was so incredibly talented, I really don't think he knew just how wonderful he was.....but we certainly did!

Ernie Flatt was so creative in these early seasons.
I forgot about the guests signing the book at the end. I wonder if it still exists?

I've done her recipe. It's pretty good.
Well you obviously got it out of a cookbook or video. Lol.
Exelente

say... what have you accomplished in life?
Couldnt agree more.!!!!!
Look her up on TH-cam. Spell her name right and see what you find.
She went on from singing/songwriting to become a philosophy major.
See the comment from 2 days ago by Glenn Tasty also.
I thought Bobbi Gentry was absolutely Delightful!! Refreshing from all the world trauma going on now!!
Looks like the people that work for B.Mackie, forgot to hem her dress.!!!!
The bottom hem is very unprofessional.!!!!

Rough hems were all the rage in 68'.
