Excellent video, for years now we run a dehumidifier in our van for a few days when we get back early or late season to remove any moisture from a weekend living in the van and also run It 1 day a week when it's layed up in the winter we have never suffered from damp but my van is at home so not easily done if in storage
Main cause of damp here in NZ anyway is wet clothing and towels left inside and washing a few clothes and hanging inside in the sun...... water evaporates and gets into blinds and upholstery.......so many people do this in their homes as well and create the effect of leaks etc
Have watched and enjoyed a few of your video, thank you. I have now purchased the moisture meter you recommend, could you advise me on the mode to use in my caravan. Many thanks.
@@overthehill1986 yep, definitely, it’s the main advantage of it, and will do, going to be getting people using 12v multimeters and 240v volt sticks soon, definitely worth knowing how to use them.
@@atlanticcaravansUK yes i agree im fairly competent on the multimeter side of things but lots arnt ill be buying one of the damp meters this week cheers
Yes, I’ve never quite got to the bottom of how long it takes to cause damage, I suppose it depends on how bad the leak is and how much it’s been raining.

I’ve got water ingress in my sterling eccles moonstone there is a line about 2cm in a horizontal line under the window I think it’s the joint on the outside wall letting water in I have sealed that and hope that dries up any ideas?
It’s nearly impossible to know where its coming in until you strip the boards off, and unfortunately ingress like the doesn’t really dry out. You might have to bite the built and strip it out if it’s viable.
Hi thanks for getting back to me. I don't know why manufacture have to get involved with the customer. If there's a problem the dealer must have the nohhow to make a decision on most warente clames.for me going back to the manufacture is just a northern layer .making the process a bit more frustrating the customer must trust the dealer why don't the dealer
The problem is that we (dealers) are governed by what we can fix and how much we get to fix it by the manufacturers, the overall ’trust’ part of the deal I think is still with the manufacturers, yes we can soften to blow, or make it worse depending on the dealer, but if the buck stops with the dealer and a caravan gets rejected, it would soon not be worth the risk to sell them.
@@atlanticcaravansUK Under UK consumer law the warranty is between the buyer and the seller. Where the dealer bought the van from is not the concern of the buyer. The agreement of sale is with the dealer and the customer. How the dealer handles the back end roll back to the manufacturer is nothing to do with the domestic customer. I'm sure more dealers know this about UK law, but it's convenient to wriggle out of obligations for a dealer to blame the manufacturer...
Hi we all know manufacture can not get it right all the time But it's the way they deal with the problem it's Not good enough at all this the area most people loosing the confidence in the manufacture it's not good the way they are dealing with problems doing or ignoring the customer will not improve the problem and the customer doesn't forget this sort of treatment 😢
I purchased a swift compact caravan, the water pipe work is not up to standard, they don't fit inserts to end of pipe work, this caused major leaks, the workmanship on this caravan rubbish, would not trust my dealer, complete repaired pipework myself, the quality of a swift caravans crappy

excellent video, I am guessing water ingress can happen very quickly as the caravan is towed there is movement allowing seals to fail at any time ?
Great video thanks for sharing😊
will this tester work through the lino on the caravan floor? keep the videos coming

Yes, sometimes they also cut them to short which stressed the joint and we have to but a straight connection in or replace the whole length.
