Don't think I could like this video enough hahaha I had the pleasure of working with Chris and crew doing QA and VO. Having watched Matt's "What Happened" vids for a while, I definitely got excited going in to this XD Nice playthrough dude, the commentary was hilarious!
the old 8 bit home computer game was the first violent game I ever played. Blocky Charles Bronson turns enemies into blocky messes of red. Was great fun. :) Also was fun when the grannies who were getting mugged would sometimes smack the mugger on the head with their purse. I had it on Amstrad CPC but it was also on ZX Spectrum and C64. Great chiptune played throughout too. Not the most in-depth game but fun to go on a vigilante rampage in. :)
I like this tendency of indie developers making crazy crossovers with obvious copyright-safe versions of classic characters. I hope they'll eventually add Mark Briggs and Richard Mortlaugh
It's your 70's/80's theme version of Sunset Riders and Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa. kinda makes sense to take that turn. Like making Golden Axe into Highlander and anime-cyberpunk, Heavy Metal, with a dash of Final fight.
I know the guy (Chris) who made the game, and my buddy Fred is in the credits as a tester. Got my sealed switch copy on the shelf haha. It’s definitely a whacky game!
4:12 That would be Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas. It actually got an Arcade Archives digital release for modern consoles late last year (December 20, 2023). Sunset Riders also got an Arcade Archives digital release as well. Definitely check it out when you're able to Matt.
So much to love about this game. Great style, good mechanics, hilarious characters and good level design. I got a good chuckle out of the Explodinator making Arnold noises upon death, and Jack Torrance with a chainsaw is hilarious and horrifying.
Apparently, Monster Bath did publish (but not develop) Insanity's Blade. Insanity's Blade was developed by the same people that made Battle Princess Madelyn (a Ghosts 'N Goblins homage).
@@flophouseplays Yeah, and i just looked it up and it's by the same folk who did Battle Princess Madelyn. The developer Chris gave me a free copy of that game when it came out some years ago cos we were pals on Twitter and it was great. Then Twitter went all to hell and I lost touch with folk. I wonder if they moved to masto or threads or something too. Thanks for the video. :)
Wow this one really wears the arcade influences on its sleeve. Elevator action, sunset riders, metal slug, splatterhouse, some game "action adventure" I forget the title but the level opens on a boat exactly like stage 2.
A Sunset Riders-like game where you can choose from Dirty Harry, Charles Bronson, Diana Rigg, Foxy Brown/Cleopatra Jones, and James Bond (apparently with a dash of Austin Powers thrown in for good measure)? I hope there's a Switch physical version!
I've ony watched as far as the first boss fight so far, but I feel like it's paying homage to the original Shinobi more than Rolling Thunder (though Shinobi clearly owed a lot to/was an iteration on Rolling Thunder) with the hostages and a melee attack when enemies are next to you. Also the first boss' injured noises sound like the hurt grunts of wrestlers in the 16-bit LJN WWF games.
15:30 - Okay I know this is suppose to be cheesy no rules 90's arcade goodness based on 70's exploitation movies but damn man that took a fucking hard genre turn! 17:28 - I forget, weren't two of the playable characters in this game women? >:3 17:52 - FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD 18:20 - What? No Thriller? 19:45 - Geezus cripes this really is just Metal Slug 3 all over again XDXDXDXDXD 21:01 - Fuck there's more? Kinda blew your entire load on that Gozer the Gozerian boss what else is there after that? XDXDXDXDXD 30:22 - Yeah I dunno, as epic a final boss fight as Jack Nicholson is? They already had a damn Chernabog boss two levels ago XDXDXDXDXDXD
Scorpion Killer sounds like a reference to the Scorpio Killer from Dirty Harry, who was a reference to the real life Zodiac Killer. Axel D'Bulbous sounds like a reference to Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange. Love all the references. Not a fan of one hit kills.
Yes, Sunset Riders is one hit deaths. The spiritual successor is "Mystic Warriors" where you play as one of 5 ninjas, also damn fun.
This game here is basically a four player parity of all the police movie tropes from Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and a litany of others. Shine on
9:31 That's sharks with freaking laser beams attached to their heads.
Sha-ZAM!
Don't think I could like this video enough hahaha

Nice playthrough dude, the commentary was hilarious!
Maxwell's super was probably an Austin Powers reference. Sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads.
Death Wish 3 is my favourite movie, Charles Bronson kills like 500 people (individually) in it.

Tell them Shaft is missing. I mean we got Charles Bronson, Dirty Harry, James Bond, and Foxy Brown, but no Shaft?
Shaft almost made it 😬
@@MonsterBathGamesInc there he is!

@@flophouseplays You're very welcome Matt. And thank you for taking the time to respond back to me, I appreciate it man.

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire 1,073 shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself.
I believe the dev for this also did Battle Princess Madelyn, an homage to Ghosts n Goblins
Yes he did. I know him personally. Good guy. BPM is pretty difficult too (like ghouls) but fun.
@@resellingwithjon That's so dope! Battle Princess is such a blast, currently have it on my Switch and PS4
@@TheMetalGearKid for sure. Same here, I was lucky enough to get sealed copies for both from Chris, so I bought it digitally on switch to play.
I assume that's her at 17:15
The second boss is based on the Scorpio Killer from Dirty Harry, (played by Andrew Robinson, AKA Garak from DS9)
So much to love about this game. Great style, good mechanics, hilarious characters and good level design. I got a good chuckle out of the Explodinator making Arnold noises upon death, and Jack Torrance with a chainsaw is hilarious and horrifying.

12:15 The scorpion king name is indeed Mathayus.
There’s a ton of pro wrestling references in your commentary, I love it
This is just Sunset Riders but with cops instead of cowboys-It looks GREAT don't get me wrong.
Hey he said it! Aight my bad
Those cute hostages kill me when they get rescued and get the immediate case of derpy eyes.
Damn, another pearl has been revealed to us... Thanks Matt. 👍
Bondages special I assume is a reference to the sharks with freakin laser beams on their heads
Mystic Warriors is the spiritual successor to Sunset Riders
Thanks!
Also, C.O.W Boys of MooMesa
@@flophouseplays Thanks for covering my friend's game!
Odd. "it's been out for a while and this is the special edition". How come I never heard of it before? I usually know about these pixelly games. :O
Don't know what to tell you. It originally came out January 2023, and the special edition came out this February past.

Wow, this is just straight Sunset Riders with a new coat of paint, but SR is awesome, so I'm here for it!
I'd build a custom cabinet for this game for sure!
Love your work, Matt!

This goes straight onto my wishlist.
Glad you covered it, Its a real homage to sunset riders. I still play the arcade version form time to time its such a simple yet nice game.
Reminds me of Rolling Thunder and Metal Slug
Reminds me a bit of Sunset Riders. And Dick Tracy (Sega Mega Drive/Genesis).
This game should start with a cutscene of the bad guys killing your best friend or something
Sunset riders with Charles Bronson. What a weird game to make.
Sunset Riders is probably my favorite non-fighter arcade game so its cool to see a Sunet Riders-like, dang
I haven't felt this nostalgic in all nostalgia
Sunset Riders 70`s Edition
That sign is straight from crime fighters it even says the same thing
This game is a blast. We need more like this.
Ever play Broforce? Fun game. Played it to death with my son, 007 is the best bro broh.
Thats what this game kinda reminds me of tbh

There IS a physical release for the Switch, but you have to go through LRG
Love the game, is the perfect sequel to sunset riders and mystic warriors
