I remember first seeing this in the 1997 book, Art of Star Trek, by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. I always preferred this over the on-screen Voyager.

I asked Rick what the fins on the Voyager concept were for, he said they were there to give the producers something to remove and feel they contributed something!
I remember seeing the finless design in a magazine before Voyager came out, I was quite disappointed to see what finally made it on screen.

I like this one more the one they went with.

Saw that in a promotion magazine before the series started where they talked about the work behind it and some making of stuff. I was intrigued by it. Nice they made it as a model.

I like the idea of the white and blue concept ships.

Wish there was a model kit out on the market of this ship

Beautiful concept model. I still prefer the actual Intrepid Voyager. Eaglemoss still need to do Space Dock :)

Forerunner of the Voyager, the Prometheus Class and the Yeager Class. Truth Be Told, I wish they'd used this model instead of the Yeager!

I like this concept better than the live version.
The shape of the nacelles are more reminiscent of older designs, and better than the D-era round bubbly ones.

Nacelles are definitely more E era than A/Refit, they are basically Sovereign upside down

By the time we got to "Voyager" (which apparently was more or less close to the size of the Constitution Class), we saw the evolution from a saucer to a spoon.
I'm still waiting for a primary fork to evolve into a spork. Please, Commander Cockings, make it so!

This ship looks really good upside-down. You'd have to do a little to fix the Aeroshuttle side of the saucer to add a bridge dome, but otherwise.

It would also help with the upside down text on the secondary hull (~1:49 mark)

🖖😎👍,Yes I have that one by Eaglemoss and the original one as well, I like them both the same. I also have the Reliant concept on with the nacelles on top and not below...

I don't remember if I've seen pictures of this almost Voyager before; I do like the design though -- would've been pretty cool to see on screen. The overall design does seem like on we might see as contemporary with the Excelsior class rather than the later TNG era; although that impression may specifically be influenced by the dorsal side of the secondary hull.
I do really like the final design for Voyager, but I would not have had any complaints if this concept is what ended up on screen.

I like this one, especially the nacelles over the screen version, but like the screen version, the back end is just too small for the front end. It's not balanced.

    *gasp* First!
Also, I'm sorry but that Voyager concept doesn't sit right with me - glad they went with the current one. Good review regardless!!!

    Better then the final

as the intrepid class has a secondary warp core this model shows what id imagine as 1 main warp core and 2 secondary. i would love to see this model as something of a ultra long range variant of the intrepid witch maby could cruise at warp 9 instead of warp 6 and make a show of it going back to nelix say 10 years after voyagers return that would be cool.

I think the nacelles should have been spread a bit further but I do love this model.

I prefer this design over the one used in the show, when I first saw it before Voyager aired I loved it, I couldn't wait to see the show, but when the show aired I was like WTF is this crap. The on air Voyager reminded me of SeaQuest.

    Form should always follow function.

It's not a _bad_ design, but it's something that would be more suited for a patrol frigate, rather than a long-range explorer.

The downward slope of the concept nacelles looks like a dog dragging its butt on a carpet.
Voyager was very much a product of its time.
The production Voyager is very round and blunt like the car designs and car interiors buttons of its era. Voyager even had teal tables. Everything was teal in the mid 90s.

Hopefully, this design can be put to use in the making of the upcoming Jean-Luc Picard-centric Star Trek T.V. series.

Ew, you liked the one with the fins? I bet you liked Tom Paris' dynametric fins as well, didn't you?

  • @DavidChilson

I actually like this Voyager compared to the final version, the secondary hull seems a bit bigger and the nacelles reflect the older TMP era designs.
Actually, I remember seeing the one with the shark fins in DS9.

Looks like an incomplete Prometheus class.

the nacelles on this just ruin the design for me. me the saucer is fine, but the connection of the EH and the nacealles just looks weird....

Too much of a beefed-up runabout. The runabout is fine, this size of runabout is too big for its lines, especially the stardrive part.
