Vietnam handled Covid-19 wonderfully in 2020. We only buckled in 2021 because of the virality of Delta and Omicron, and the fact that we could not produce long term solutions like covid vaccines ourselves, and being a poor country outside of the Western sphere, were not prioritized with mRNA vaccine purchase and delivery. I often wonder why so much good news about Vietnam's economic development, yet in many other indicators the country is not doing well compared to other Southeast Asian or Asian countries in general. These include ranking in universities, environmental pollution, tourist arrivals, better standard of living, social and political freedom and so on. While many countries were busy struggling with Covid and sourcing or using their own funds to buy medicine and protective gears, Vietnam leaders were going round the world to source for medicine, face masks and other aids. Perhaps Vietnam did well because of this. It's good that Vietnam is catching up with its neighbours.

I don’t know which country in Asean you are, but if you still believe those fake news and fake rankings about Vietnam, one day you will be surely surprised that your country are far behind Vietnam now 😂 In Vietnam we already learned how to ignore the fake bad news and ranking about us and just simply enjoy our quality life and trust our government. We also think that it’s good to let our neighbors think we are behind them so that they won’t see us as a threat or try to compete with us 😂 So, whatever you say bro, I wish you will have a good life in your country like we do in our country 😉

You need to consider that Vietnam was under the US trade embargo for 30 years until 1994. For a poor country without vast natural resources, that was too much. Even Russia with its huge energy export was still affected by the US embargo since the start of the war in Ukraine.
