I almos never leave comments. I have had a rough 2023 and decided to start a 3d printing business and kept second guessing myself. Watch your video of how you started out and the way you painted it so down to earth made me realize that I should just go for it. Thank you so much for getting my out of my analytical brain. Subbed keep it up!

I also get Analysis paralysis. I over think everything. And that whole self doubt thing is also a major hurdle for me. I appreciate you sharing your experience with formulating your own small business. It encouraging to see others dealing with similar growing pains when it comes to the evolving nature of business/product development.

Hey man, for someone on holiday, I've ended up being on a super productive stint because of finding your business description video (and other creators from your comments). Just entered my first period of unemployment after 6 years of post uni work and just feeling burnt on dev. Your journey actually this kind of down to earth explanation is super motivating. I'm taking the plunge, duck it.
Thank you very genuinely for the video.

I'm so glad I found your channel. I had a nervous breakdown working 25 years in banking hell, and have decided 3D printing is my next venture. Like you I thought I was going to be an architect, until I got an internship. I knew I'd prefer drafting and tool design, but didn't take it seriously because math, and therefore never looked into being an engineer. Your story has been very inspiring. I have an idea I think is really great in a specific niche and am currently prototyping. But even if it doesn't sell as well as I suspect it should, I've got two other ideas in adjacent niches ready to start protoyping as well. And I've only begun putting real though into this. Having so many ideas already is helping with the anxiety of leaving a career without any skills outside of that industry, and hoping we can get our 3d printing business off the ground without having to go back to corporate hell. The fact that you're succeeding in such a specific niche is very encouraging.

That’s so awesome man, thank you for sharing some of your story. The reason why I quit my job was nervous breakdown as well. Straight up ran out of the building and didn’t come back. No product idea in the works, no plan, no nothing. I think something amazing happens when you quit your job though. Your brain gets opened to new ideas and thoughts it previously wasn’t able to see before. Like getting unplugged from the Matrix. And you’ve only just “begun putting real thought into this.” Such a great line. I wish great success my friend. Thanks for reaching out.

Joe, IMHO, do a focus group on any new project \ products that you feel might need a “devil’s advocate”!
    1. Find a select group of your followers or friends
    2. Present your idea and gather input during the “pro-type” phase
    3. Accept positive and negative feedback!
    4. CREATE AS YOU SEE FIT! ❤️🎉
I can’t say glowforge on or anything cuz I’m xTool 🤣, but keep on keeping on!!🙌🏻

Great video Joe. Resonated with me as I have had a new product, designed over the preceding years (yes, really, that long), that is now ready to be put "out there". I've continued to make excuses on why I'm not ready to list it yet, but now feels the right time. In fact today I am shooting a "How to install" video, and your video has confirmed that I just need to get it out there and see what happens. You may be introverted but you come across really well in your videos. Keep up the good work, and thanks

Joe! I think you might be my twin !! Been watching a lot of these videos recently as I'm going down nearly the same road with a slightly different business model. Your last few videos speak deeply to me, as your language, approach, introverted-ness and thought-process nearly match mine to a T. I've had to also climb out of the introverted ditch a few years ago because we ((need)) other people. I know you've spoke on this as well. Anyways, I just wanted to say what an inspiration you have been to me personally - congrats on your newest addition to the family and I hope your business is thriving now in 2023! And please keep the content coming as long as it doesn't become too much of a burden ! Much love homie. Don from PA

It really is a struggle to get over that perfectionist tendency when developing products. I've sunk a lot of time into the product details and manufacturing process before I sold anything and when I was finally done the product didn't sell. It took a few times doing that for me to realize sending out a product that isn't perfect, at least initially, is way better than wasting my time.
What I've started doing is getting a handful of units out there at a bare minimum quality to see if they sell. If they do, then I sink the time in to refine and perfect everything. I was hesitant to do this at first because I'm treating those first customers as unwilling beta testers. But, I'll always refund if they want it, and sometimes I'm lucky and my rough product meets their expectations. Now it's a much quicker process to churn through ideas and I'm less attached to the bad ones.

I’ve been selling for half a year now and this is such an underrated tip. My first product, I spent an endless amount of time testing and reprinting to perfection. I sold maybe three to this day. I just found that its better to get out as many products as possible and to continue getting them out on a consistent basis.

I’m trying pretty hard to get a little “business” started. There are alot of UNKNOWNS. Not sure what to do, or how to do it… I just know that I love 3D printing and designing parts. Functional parts. That SOLVE a problem. Just not sure how to go from a hobby level guy making $100 bucks a week to a business making $100 an hour. I love your videos. Thanks so much!

Hey Joe! Thanks for putting this out there. I resonate with a lot of what you said (I switched to engineering from architecture right before I started college)
I've heard the "just start" from dozens of people, but for some reason it hit a little different this time. I've had a product idea that I've thought "why doesn't someone make this" but just never did it myself. Now is the time!

I'm at a crossroads for a project I'm working on (side business). I can continue to pay through the nose for engineering material 3D prints, and wait long for iteration of design, or build a large format printer to print in Polycarbonate and Nylon myself. I'm favoring the later with a RatRig V-Core 3.1 500mm printer, and enclosure. Expensive kit, but for what I now pay per print, about 10 good prints would cover the parts cost. Possibly printing a few jobs on the side for Treatstock or Craftcloud might be a future possibility.

I feel this video accutely. I have not been 3d printing long (less than a year), and trying to get a business off the ground for even less time (~6 month mark). I have two low volume selling parts which are great, but it's a car part for a now 16 yr old car... and I am not sure how to do something that has more of a future. Well, I am trying to learn modeling and other skills to add to all this. Thanks for the nudge forward today. I need to hear things like this more often.

Hu Joe! Oh my gosh I came across your vidoes per chance as im looking to buy a Glowforge and wow so much of what you said in this video and others has resonated with me. I’ve been following a very parallel path. Had 4 versions of a business doing different things (currently on my 5th) I felt like a failure at some do those but the protype idea is such a fantastic perspective. And I get analysis paralysis too. You seem like such a sweet and genuine person I seriously hope your business smashes it! 💪🏼 I would order the plexiglass window too but I suspect it will be costly to get to the UK.
