hell ya! Tiefling is one of my favorites to play, next to Aasimar, and Gnome.
Nice. Gnome is an interesting choice, though I don't think I've seen too many in actual gameplay
Been thinking about a Zariel tiefling swashbuckler rogue with the magic initiate feat getting shield, booming blade and green flame blade.
To quote a wise man, "that's a lotta damage..."
The only optimization relevant tiefling is winged imo, a lot of those spells only being once per long rest and having limitted options for your spellcasting modifier makes them very limitted in terms of how you can actually build them into a character.
Some other races, like the genasi, get the spells once for free AND choose the modifier AND can cast it more with spell slots if they want.
Winged Tieflings are the only race that have something unique, flight in medium armor.
On the flip side, if you're not trying to be optimal, a lot of Tiefling abilities are gonna be handy sometimes anyway. No one is going to complain about fire resistance and, if you have a free hellish rebuke, you'll probably use it every day.
BTW, while their spellcasting modifiers for their race spells are locked, any of the Ability Score Increases they have can be switched around due to rules added in Tasha's.
Yeah, I wish the tiefling got the same kind of love that the reprints of the genasi got. If they were they'd be a lot stronger than what they are now.
