  • This is how I get a professional plaster patch finished to a high standard, this plastering demonstration shows every step of the patch job from start to finish. I show eatch stage and explain what I am doing what preparation is needed I show the tools trowels hawk brushes I used, the plaster mixed is multi finish, reminding you to prepare and double check the plasterboard and drywall screws are sound solid and not lose. Showing you in detail the way a great finish at the joint and edges are achieved the processes I take to get it clean with the sponge and brush what to look out for and what to do to make the job faster easier and better, patching is a hard job not always physical but can require a great eye and some skill and patience to get good a good patch will be almost if not invisible to the eye after the plaster has dried and is painted, plaster used multi finish plaster 25kg but it only took around 10kg to complete job orange scrim tape galvanised or collated dry wall screws clean cold water. Tools used Refina stainless steel trowel pointsman hawk refina water brush cheap angle brush spear and jackson / tyzack bucket scoop / trowel , 2 builders buckets for mixing the plaster and cleaning / trowelling of the plaster car sponge for cleaning edges of the ceiling and wall from access plaster b and q hop up for getting to the height, super flex 3 refinas premium black handled golden trowel edition, plaster was mixed by the collomix cordless mixing drill from rambootools dust sheets brush and shovel cordless drill makita as a back up for lose or low screws / plasterboard Van used to pull these tools around vauxhall movano .

    Just want to say I really enjoyed your video. I do it the same way as you which was the way I was taught at college years ago. I dont understand the scriming over onto the existing plaster as it always stands out as it creates a higher point whilst the board is lower. To skim it then means the skim is too thick in the middle to get it anywhere near flat with the existing ceiling. Never had any issues with cracking. A similar thing I see is when people plaster chases after rewires. Instead of just bonding, cuting edges back if necessary and skimming it flush they skim over and make a big bulge on plaster.🙈 Great to see someone taking time and effort to get it right. Good video 👍👍

    How far does your scrim tape go over the joint on to the white part of the ceiling?

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Glynn I dont over lap it if I dont have to as i find it is a much better finish , the board the guy has actually used is called gypboard it has a rounded edge was designed to not be scrimmed but i would still recommend scrimming it all i have done here is offer it up tight to the old plaster and get it over the joint as much as possible , thing we must remember is even if it was scrimmed over the white as well it could still crack and also look a worse joint/patch if you get me ?

    • @carper186
      @carper186 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Won’t it crack if the scrim isn’t overlapping to the ceiling

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there was another patch on this ceiling i done the same way with no cracks so simple answer is it might crack but even with scrim it might crack , but with scrim it will be a little bump at the edge's witch to me dont look good this way to me looks the best nice and flush also when feathering finish out so thin it risks coming off as its to thin , I have another video upcoming where it might be even better way to go , will have it uploaded in a few weeks hopefully have k rend videos to come this weekend

      I would very rarely do that mate as i find it gives a nasty joint and very noticeable way more so than a hairline crack , but I have scrimmed the gaps with can help prevent the crack you can patch both ways but i feel this is the best way to go remember just because it is scrimed wont mean it cannot crack nothing in all the years I been plastering has been 100% crack free yet not sure there ever will be , I do like doing the whole wall or ceiling instead of patching but sometimes a patch is the most sensible do i think this will crack nope and will it paint good yes but you got to do what works best for you , believe it or not I had done a patch on this ceiling years before and it didn't crack and was very hard to see , this ceiling had a leak in it the has been the 2nd leak from another pipe , hope this helps mate
