Arguably the greatest hurdle race ever run the Templegate Hurdle at Aintree Monksfield and Night Nurse D/H the perfect result both horses giving their all!
79 Champion , not gonna Google it but I vividly remember Within the law and Major Thompson in regards to winning the Schweppes! Easterby horses maybe ? I think Within the law won at a big price like 28/1 ! This was when the Schweppes was a REALLY big deal ! 👍🏴
Really enjoyed this vid , 77-82 was when I was in my element with NH , cheers btw 🍻 Dessie mentioned Carvills Hill , surely should’ve been a monster of a Grade 1 / Gold Cup winner if A. His jumping was more reliable B. If that old crone Jenny Pitman hadn’t pulled off the sh*tiest trick in NH history by instructing her jockey on no hoper Golden Frieze to not just take him on at a crazy pace from the beginning , but to try and take his ground as well as trying to “Half length” him at the jumps , ie be just far enough in front at a jump to fool the 2nd into jumping too early - well it worked as Carvils Hill DID falter and was out on his feet before being pulled up and was never the same after that . She always denied it but it was as clear as the nose on yer face ! Golden Frieze got rode like a finish just to eff up CH for a circuit then dropped out like the numpty he was , supposedly to give Toby Tobias every chance to beat CH.. cool ground won it at 25/1 so raspberries to Pitman - cynical ploy that and I never forgave her - not that she knew or would’ve cared though 😆 👍🏴

Along with Dawn runs gold cup the two greatest races of all time, sends shivers up the spine when you see horses of that class in a duel like that.
That 78 Champion hurdle was stuffed full of champions and regular grade 1 winners - classy field !
👍🏴
Brilliant memories. Monkey is my favourite hurdler of all time. I loved the footage of the old Cheltenham, when they'd swing by the stands.
Yes that was amazing that.
