To be rock 'n' roll survivors is an achievement. To be Europe's top live band, thirty years after its inception is truly fantastic but to still be enthusiastic, fresh, totally committed and in love with the music is a positive miracle. That’s Smokie. Their most famous hit singles include "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", "Don't Play Your Rock 'n' Roll to Me", "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone". Their most popular hit single, "Living Next Door to Alice", peaked at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and, in March 1977, reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Current line-up: Mike Craft, Mick McConnell, Terry Uttley, Martin Bullard & Steve Pinnell

We will sing this song with my friends and teacher during tourism week. One day we will sing this song for the last time, we will laugh and have fun for the last time. I love them so much, it saddens me so much to leave them one day. If you listen to the song and maybe come across this comment, I love you and my teacher Bülent very much... 9A Accommodation - Mamak.

The one who sings this song is Alan Barton and there is not a single photo of him.. Sometimes I feel like they forget about him and it was a very important part of smokie after Chris, I met Smokie with Alan as a frontman and believe me that after so many years of listening to them I always return to his voice. It is the perfect mix between "hoarse" and "soft" and this song proves it perfectly. The Barton era was magical.

Smokie started to loose their popularity in UK, but had still a big popularity abroad. So they performed a lot abroad - like Norway. It was a TV host in UK about 40 years ago (Think it was on Thames TV) that said "Still popular in Norway" about Smokie and other bands that had lost part of their poularity home in England. It is several womans that Smokie met in Norway that tell this song was made for them. :-D

@@NooraEesti Uriah Heep was atleast one more with popularity elsewhere. I like these 2 bands very much. But was this "Norwegian Girl" on any album?

    • @NooraEesti

@@tonikouvonen9220 I have only found it on several "Best Of" collections. Like Best of Smokie (1990), and CD #3 on the big collection from 1996 that is sold under different names. It sounds like it is much older then 1990. But it is normally Alan Barton that is singing it (probelly because it is Best of albums that is most played) , and he was in Smokie from 1986 till he died in 1995. Chris Norman song it on some reunion conserts with Smokie about 5 years ago, what indicate it might have been made in Normans periode. I guess it from beginning have been a bonus track first - eventually bonus track only for a smaller marked like Scandinavia-

Alot of bands have Norway specified. Like Alan Jackson has an ablum called "Norwegian Favourites" because he was the most listend artist in Norway like 20 years ago. Even The Beatles have a song called "Norwegian Wood". Maybe it is a unexpected theme and it might be an easy lyrics to sing. And maybe it even rhymes a bit better than «British».
