- Watch again as a Republican-led US House of Representatives committee held a hearing on Wednesday, 10 January, related to an attempt to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
House Republicans were moving forward with efforts to impeach Mr Mayorkas as they continue to blame president Joe Biden and his administration for continuing record migrant arrivals along the US-Mexico border.
It comes more than two months after the US president asked Congress to enact a supplemental appropriations bill to fund critical national defence and security needs, including billions of dollars for border enforcement and processing of asylum seekers.
Today’s witnesses were Austin Knudsen, Attorney General of Montana, Gentner Drummond, Attorney General of Oklahoma, Andrew Bailey, Attorney General of Missouri, and Frank O. Bowman III, Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Missouri School of Law.
If Republicans’ efforts are successful, Mayorkas could be the first cabinet secretary to be impeached in almost 150 years.

Lower income citizens will have to fight for food at the foodbanks and clothes at thrift stores. It's like locusts taking everything we have. More car accidents, less housing. Congressman Thompson, do you mean to tell us that the only time you've ever used the word fight was in describing something physical? People fight all of the time - fight something in court, I was sleepy and had to fight to keep my eyes open, etc. After having listened to President Trump, his guest speakers, and his supporters throughout his Save America rally, I feel sure none of them used the word fight in the context of something physical. His supporters were there to watch the count of electoral votes and for their voices to be heard, much like the political fights you engage in to convince others to vote against a particular bill (We have to fight this bill for the American people). I can assure you, from the temperment of the people at the rally and watching the supporters asvthey walked from the rally to the Capitol grounds, there was never any intention for any kind of violence from that group of people. In fact, it appeared there was no violence until the police threw some flasg-bangs into a crowd that included women snd very young children which I believe was captured on video.
