I have same idea recently to build similar desk shelves, but I do think of extended the length and make it become two pieces of desk shelf and when they meet together, two pieces would stick together through magnets, now I need just a wood work shop to let me to use their tools

Hi Dave, can you please explain why you cut down the original plank into multiple thin columns that you attached? Was it to increase the strength of the top shelf to hold more weight?
That’s a good question. The width of the walnut lumber I had was not wide enough for my computer, so I had to make up the width by gluing up two pieces into a panel. If you were going to the lumber yard you could look for a wider board and skipped that step. Thanks for your question! 🙌🏽✨

When I see grovemade pricing, its a happy reminder that Im an adult who has purchased tools over the years. I can build a nicer, more durable version of their things for a fraction of the cost. As for their non wood products, unless their felt desk mats where put together by a Norse Goddess, you can buy those for much much less elsewhere. Grovemade exists because youtube advertising and people who like to waste money.
I’m glad I made my own stand and agree that there are lots of great affordable options for felt mats. The one thing that I’m still seriously considering is their linoleum and cork desk mat. I don’t think I can replicate it and I don’t see any dupes out there. Thanks for commenting and watching! ☀️👨🏽🏭👍🏽
What did you use to finish the walnut? It looks great!
Thanks! I used Howard “Feed-n-Wax” Orange Oil and Beeswax finish. It’s not a durable finish, but it’s easy to reapply.
Rather take off the savings from not buying the Grovemade from the cost of the machine. Since it is a hobby there is no charge for the labour. I am about to make one myself.

Isn't one of the strengths of the Grovemade shelves is that you can add their shelf accessories to their shelves?
Yes, I think that’s true. They have some cool accessories and extra storage.
