Beautiful model Cox Thimble Drome released this model way back in 1959 and yes, Roy Cox called it the "Super Cub 105". It was directly competing with Comet's Piper Tri-Pacer, also a ready-to-fly model. The Cox was much better because the Babe Bee engine was a beautiful piece oof model engineering. Incidentally, still available. The Super Cub 105 (never a J3) was kept in and out of production almost until Cox went out of business. I do remember very well these models which I enjoyed when I was a schoolboy. Nostalgic!!

My first Cox CL was a Bushmaster- you could change the wheels for skis or floats. About 1974.

Outstanding Dan! A wonderful tribute to your brother Jimmy and for all those who grow up flying these great Cox models. Good on ya! :)

Wonderful flight. I love that unmistakable sound of a Cox .049 and the smell of burning nitro fuel. My little brother and I flew many of the Cox and Testors line control models as kids and still collect them to this day. You’re little bro would have been so proud of your flight!

My very first cox model was the Red Knight biplane. My aunt and uncle got it for me as a birthday present. My aunt said "I hope you're a good pilot Das" and my dad said "Das isn't going to fly it I'm going to fly it" lol. So I helped and dad flew it. The next morning my dad woke me up and said "There's no wind lets fly your plane". We were so happy about this Cox bi-plane. Eventually I flew it and over time it broke and was cannibalized. Great memories.

Nicely done, that really flew great. So it was US when we were young that were the problem when these crashed within one circuit, not the planes. Here's to Jimmy and all the good memories.

Nice flight. I never had much luck with U-control 'till I flew a .35 on a Flite Streak (70s). Thanks for the video and I'm sure Jimmy would have been proud.

The larger models are easier to fly, the 1/2a model fly on such short lines and get people dizzy faster as compared to the larger models. I fly some large CL scale models on 65' lines with maybe a 9 sec lap time, more line tension but easier to fly. I like the .35 size models for sport flying

Yeah. I flew 60' steel lines with the .35 and had great fun. On one occasion an approaching thunderstorm sent a shock down the right side of my body and I had to auger it in. I learned my lesson. LOL.

Wonderful! You brought back so many memories of the 60-70s when toys were cool! I’m amazed by your dizziness resistance! I would have been falling over by then.

the 049 models spin to fast for me but the larger smaller models are more reasonable in lap times. I flew the Cox Pt-19 like everyone else.

Awesome video, thanks for posting it! I started out flying COX control line planes as a kid back in the 70's. Although those old COX and Testors planes are getting ridiculously expensive, (Thanks to FeeBay) I still enjoy collecting and flying them to this day. In fact, I just got a brand new old stock COX Super Chipmunk Stunter and a Wings series Hustler for my oldest son from COX Intl.

I used to have the Yukon Patrol version with floats and skis. Both worked as should, of course wheels were easiest...

I flew control line models from 1962 into the late 1990s. I was 12 years old in 1962 when I first flew my Baby Ringmaster for a full tank of fuel without crashing. That was the beinning of my flying career that led me to becoming a United Airlines pilot for 29 years. I had to retire at age 65 in 2015 due to federal age limit law. But now I now fly a corporate jet professionally at 74, all thanks to control line model airplanes. I never had an interest in flying RC. On a side note, I started taking flying lessons in 1966 as a 16 year old high school junior and soloed in a Piper J-3 Cub, same plane the pilot is flying in this video.

We are still active here in St Louis. I typically don't fly the 1/2a models, I fly the larger CL scale models. The Cox models introduced the flying to new people but until you work with the larger engines and models you don't really appreciate how the larger models fly better. Come join us in St Louis if you are in the area!
