@JackYerMaw Youi're being very selective in your comments. Some of Billy Connolly's stuff hasn't aged well either. Ben Elton was always commenting on the big news story of the week on "Saturday Live" and wrote his routine right up to broadcast time, so even a few days later, his routine was out of date. DIfferent comedians with different styles performing in different ways. It's foolish to compare them.
elton's opus is his '97 tour. a long way from the 80's. besides, he wrote blackadder, the young ones and the thin blue line, about a dozen books, some plays, a musical, two stand up shows - the man from auntie and the ben elton show - i think we can say he was successful. and benny hill's comedy had a certain knowing irony, but wasn't intellectual.
Why did so many people watch this who hate Ben Elton's comedy? Look up the Reverend Mike Orgo and watch my clips. You might hate me too, but I don't care. I just want the views. Shaboo Shabaa.
If your career can be ended by a few jokes by Ben Elton it can't have been on very stable footing in the first place. Benny had a fair crack of the whip and a long career in television. But times change and Benny was always going to be one of the first casualties of the burgeoning alternative scene.
His writing was much better than his stand up delivery. His political stuff was so wide of the mark, I often thought he must be doing it deliberately. A Thatcher supporter, but working as a double-agent.
@mattsflix Don't forget Elton co-wrote two excellent series of "The Young Ones" as well. I think Benny Hill and Ben Elton are both funny but in different ways, but Elton can get on your nerves with his loudmouth politics.
Ben Elton is like Marmite! You either love him or loathe him. I loathe Marmite & I loathe Elton. This is the man who launched a 'sexist' tirade against the gentle humour of Benny Hill. At the time Elton was one of the new luvvies of left wing stand up. I prefer Hill's brand of humour any day to the foul mouthed vitriol spouted by Elton.
Aah, so that's where he went? I wondered why he had been missing from our screens for so long. You gave us Neighbours, Home & Away, and evenNorman Gunston. We got Gob smiths like Ben Elton, who at least gave usa good laugh.
Cannot stand the sight of this **** ever since he slagged off Benny Hill that night and destroyed Benny´s career with downright lies. Elton must be the ghastliest creep that the BBC was fooled by - not an iota of talent. Benny´s talent was immense.
I used to find Ben Elton funny. Now I don't get it. His act seems more desperate than funny. It seems to boil down to "oh, look at how pretentious the middle- and upper- class people are".
Thanks!
couldn't even get a single chuckle out of this
I remember this sketch when I was 20 I laughed my head off now...all synicism. Is it just me???
4:08 Heh. The TH-cam’s blocked up! ☻
From Across the pond in NYC I don't get it at all. Might as well be greek.
Don't worry, no one in the UK found Ben Elton stand up funny.
Guy was a tosser anyway
I do enjoy a joke about coleslaw
4:08 - Hahahha, The TH-cam is blocked up. Bet he didn't see that coming 24 years ago.
Bill Hicks is the only comic worth talking about.
youtube being mentioned before youtube ever invented...hmmmm i think he meant u bend..

I think he was still learning stand up here. His later stuff from the 90s is much better.
I love this guy
Great comedian and he is back in tour in the UK at a venue near you!

Benny was a victim of political correctness. His show was LWT's No.1 when they took it off. Hope this helps.

Will the Moody Blues ever sing "Ben Elton is dead"? No
@petersingingbloke Comedy is a very subjective thing, nobody is a "thick cunt" for wanting to debate what's funny and what isn't. To each his own.
@KickboxerKing
A bit strong.

It's a routine from 23 years ago, what do you expect?
like it

TroyDouglas917 he needs a good arse kicking to remind him he is mortal, a geek, and unpopular.
Are you his best mate or 77th? No one cares what you think

Terrific comedian !..
Please take him back London, I'll even pay for the postage.
He's been in Oz way too long. You can have him back.

Don't forget Filthy, Rich & Catflap too. Brilliant show
His stand up hasn't aged well at all has it.
@guv859
Lol yh thats weird, him getting older. :)
Funny is funny, doesn't matter whether it's intellectual or not.
He is posh, that's a "mockney" accent he's got there. They found a clip of his father talking and he sounded like Prince Charles!

What, by just chasing scantily clad women around at high speed. Is that Humor?
Not fooled, promoted.
ben elton is about as funny as a tooth ache
Can't believe I used to find this guy funny.
Brian Boyd I was thinking the same thing. Well, I was wondering IF I found him funny....
The big question of the age: Was Ben Elton ever really funny?
Woosh!
Ben Elton...just say NO
I used to find Ben Elton funny. Now I don't get it. His act seems more desperate than funny. It seems to boil down to "oh, look at how pretentious the middle- and upper- class people are".
This guy was probably the last "Good Comedian" to come out of the UK. No other comes close with his manic comedic humour. Damn this PC World.
OMG he's so funny …..NOT!
