- Introducing the Ancient Chinese game of Go, an abstract strategic board game.
My name is Brian Chu, and welcome to my channel! Having played Go for over 10 years, my Go ranking is at amateur 4 dan (Chinese Weiqi Association), and I am making videos about Go for my High School project.
The second episode of this series gives you a short and concise lesson on the two overarching concepts of the game: Liberties and Capturing Stones. The ideas are simple and easy to understand for anyone, at any age.
To learn more about Go, please check out my other videos. Thank you for your support!
My simple mind can actually understand your explanation .very well done. Thank you
Thank you! I can assure you that your mind is not simple. If you can understand the game of Go, you can do anything!🤝
Wow 🎉 found so many videos but this was the best brilliantly explained and thank you so much. Greetings from India 🙏
@@anshika5565 Thank you for your kind words and support!
Thank you. I have subscribed and will watch your channel to learn the game. I believe this game could be a bridge between East and West if we handle it properly.
I completely agree. Thank you for your support.
Thank you sir. Simple and easy to understand presentation.
Thank you! Really appreciate your support!
Nice video! Looking for a “how to” to show my son so we can play together, and noticed your figurine. I have the same one.
Haha, what a coincidence! My sister bought me that figurine for my birthday. I'm glad you're learning Go with your son! This game is especially helpful for children, as it builds focus, attention, and patience, amongst a list of other benefits.
I am beginner :) and I am happy because I can understand easily the way you explained how to play go
Thank you! I am glad you found my videos helpful. Good luck on your Go-playing journey~

I have been binge watching Chinese drama and have seen the actors in the series play Go I just got interested and found your video ….I have seen Ruyi Royal Palace this is where it has sparked my interest … where can I purchase board and pieces Ty
@@maritzabelrivera1747The best bet is probably Amazon, or if you’re looking for a specialized online store I’d suggest Yellow Mountain (www.ymimports.com/collections/go) or Baduk Club (store.baduk.club/). Some local Asian supermarkets may also sell Go equipment if you are in North America.
Can you give links to your other videos. Thank you.

best explanation right here
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
Nice Video, when does the game ends?
Great question! A game of Go ends when both players pass their turn. This is usually done when all shared spaces (territory that is neither surrounded by black nor by white) are filled up by a stone or surrounded. When this happens, both players agree not to play anymore stones (since playing more stones would simply result in their capture and eventually removed from the board), and points are counted up for both sides to determine the winner.
More on this in episode 6!
@@BriansSchoolofGo Thanks!
cool vid bud
It is a nicer game than Western chess. Subscribed to your channel👍
Thank you! Go really is a simple yet elegant game.
I get that stuff I just can't understand territories
Territories are areas on the board surrounded by a group of stones of the same color. Territories are only maintained if: 1. The surrounding group is "alive" (refer to Episode 4 on Life and Death), and 2. The opponent is unable to form a "live" group inside the territory. Thank you for your question! In the future, I will make a more detailed video about territories.
“Komugi? are you still there?”
This video is missing a lot before you can start to play. It doesn't even tell you who wins or when the game ends. I guess introducing the chinese term for everything was deemed to be more important. :D
Thank you for your suggestions! This video was intended to offer a brief introduction to the basic rules of Go. If you would like to learn more about the game (and its many intricacies), please subscribe and check out my other (and upcoming) videos!
Turn on alphago zero, sip on capri sun, wait for victory.
You'd be unbeatable😎
Here after watching Hikaru No Go anay one else?
That would be me but that way years ago. But trying to learn the actual rules is different so here I am with my new go set ready to learn
Please put an Arabic translation
Sorry, but I don't speak or write Arabic. If you would like to, feel free to contribute subtitles to my videos! I will definitely look into translating my videos in the future.
