"Break" is a rock song powered by loud, aggressive guitars, but it doesn't hide the fact that Alanis's voice is only a mere shadow of what it used to be.
Wow! I like the energy I see here. I wish that had stayed around- but I respect that she is a very in the moment person and if she has those moments then she conveys and if she doesn't she won't fake it.
I LOVE THIS DAMN SONG!!!!!! i grew up with this song, this thing came out when i was 5 and i loved it even before i could understand the significance of the words
one of the best artists of all times. did you guys know that her debut album, "Jagged Little Pill" was the best selling debut album in music history? search for alanis morissette in wikipedia if you doubt me...
Her voice was just naturally piercing. She wasn't pushing it. If you hear her sing now, its nowhere as powerful as it was back then. She lost her thunder.
man, its so odd to hear how young her voice sounds here ....on the album after this (supposed former...) , you can really hear the maturation of her voice after touring 2 years non-stop and really honing her craft!
again disagree- lyrically her second album "supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" was deeper and more personal. and her New album is Amazing. Have you heard it? Tracks like "Versions of Violence", "Citizen of the Planet" and "Moratorium" and "Tapes" rival anything from Pill
SFIJ was a lyrical trainwreck, however the production and instrumentation on it was enchanting. Flavors of Entanglement was another ill-conceived attempt to write insightful lyrics, but the music tapped into an entirely new and fascinating realm. Jagged will always be her best, because it was the most straightforward annd potent, and Alanis actually knew what she was trying to say instead of getting lost in the pretense of big words and tacky phrasing.
I still disagree watch a live performance of Mary Jane from 96 and an acoustic of it in 2005-Alanis voice isn't as high pitched but it's just as if not more powerful (how long she holds the note on the word dry in that song.).
SFIJ was lyrically experimental-covered a range of topics ect. While it wasn't as straight forward I have always been one to feel that lyrics are poetry and that poetry as an art form is meant to be interpreted. Straightforward gets boring.
wow, Alanis Morissette, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, White Zombie, TLC, & Michael Jackson! 1995 was one of the best VMAs ever.
Probably the best VMA's ever as far as performances go
She was one of the first female singers I looked up to.
I remember seeing this performance over and over again when I was 16. Instant crush on Alanis.
she is so amazing...i get chills
I just went to one of her concerts in february 2009, and she sings better than ever!

astonishing!

That pit was insane.
Chris Belman did an amazing job mastering the Jagged album. And Taylor rocked this song. Wouldn't have had the impact without those drums. Not close.
Seeing Taylor Hawkins from way back when is chilling. 😢

Can't believe MTV was ever this cool.
It was stronger back then.

que audio tan malo, pero que performance tan bueno.
It's too bad she didn't keep working with Ballard. None of her subsequent albums have stood up to her debut album.
why? whats up with them? outta curiosity
Was this her first performance of You Oughta Know live??
No it was on David letterman, sorry for the 9 year wait on that answer 😂😂😂
Awww, Young Taylor Hawkins 😞😢

Unbelievable that Shakira ended up having a huge career being the Latina rip off of Alanis back in 1995
