    I have a question. As you may have noticed, I am now capable of producing videos in 4K, but I would like to know if that extra time and energy yields any real benefits. 33% of you are on mobile devices anyway, and of the rest there probably aren't that many with 4K monitors/TVs, but I would be very curious to know if there is anyone whose viewing experience is substantially improved by this. The other thing is lower-resolution assets end up looking like shit when you put them in a 4K video.
    I'd love to hear what you have to say about this, but you can also simply vote on this comment; like it if you want more videos in 4k, or like the reply to this...

      @fiftyfour5454  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      ...yes, this one. Like this comment instead if 4k doesn't matter to you and you'd rather have (possibly somewhat less infrequent, but no promises) videos in good old 1080p. Regardless, thank you all for being here.

      Why not split the difference and do everything in 1440p?

      1080p is the best for YT

      The phone zombies are dying out thankfully, but I don't often go full screen so 1080 is enough for me. Thanks.

    On 33:14, you are not exactly forced to shoot the civilians, you have the choice to fire into the air to make them flee.

      Good point. I hadn't thought of that.

    • @MonoMist01

      That’s true however one of the intel items that you can pick up on the same level where you can shoot the civilians or not walker himself says he opened fire on them

      @MonoMist01 huh, that's something I've missed. Interesting point

    This game is personal to me. It has changed me as a person. And although not many people will share the same relationship I have with it, I have a story to tell.
    I played the demo for this game a long while back. It was fun, I enjoyed it, and soon got the full game for my birthday and only completed 1 complete playthrough at the time. It must've been Instinct or something, because after that first time, I would periodically come back to the game and play just up until the point where you start gunning down U.S. soldiers. I was young then. Too young to really understand what was going on but a lot of that game stuck for me. The white phosphorus, "do you feel like a hero, yet", getting in that hummer at the end and going home.
    Skip forward until about 3 years ago. I'm in highschool and watching through all of Zero Punctuation when he gets to Spec Ops: the Line. I remember that game. Look through the list of achievements. I've gotten 100% on Fallout 4 and Doom by now, time to put Spec Ops in that bag.
    Beat the game on easy. Remembering all the fun I had and enjoying the set pieces as some of the voice line get stuck into my head. Normal, all is going well again. I'm planning out strategies for how I'll get through certain sections.
    The next year comes and I beat the game on hard. It was a challenge, and now the story itself is starting to wheigh down on me. "How many Americans did you kill today?" I... I don't know. I died a lot but kept pushing forward, and for what? Some three diget percentage next to the game? To feel like something I'm not?
    Last summer, I beat the game... I did it. FUBAR difficulty. Three months of fighting the toughest battles for one last achievement. My own pride and hubris killed countless people in Dubai... I made the decision and I chose wrong. That 100% isn't a fucking achievement. It's a mark that will forever remind me of what I've done.
    Some nights, it's hard to sleep. Those smoldering civillians hit so much harder when you choose for that to happen again and again. Maybe I couldn’t have prevented Lugo's death on the first play through, but I could've stopped at any point.
    And my final ending, was the one I chose the first time. Falcon 1 came, I got into that hummer, and went home. Only this time, when the soldier asked how Walker survived all this, it was me that replied with "who said I did."

      I suppose by the time I played this, I knew what it was; I was old enough and jaded enough to see through the game, look the writers in the eye, and say, "really? you think I'm gonna fall for this?" I was able to distance myself from Walker's actions. But we all have games that hit us before we had our armor on. For me, that would probably be something like Far Cry 3.

    Hey so for all the people saying at 33:14 you can shoot up in the air to scare them that is true. However intel that you pick up on the same level walker himself says that he Opened fire on the civilians

    This game made me rewatch Apocalypse Now, it made me re-read Heart of Darkness, but I think most importantly, it made me rethink my entire view on life itself.

    33:14 when lugo gets linched, you can choose to shoot in the air to make the people run away, and Walker will comment "RUN! wile you still can". I love the analysis, but theres a whole achievment for it and it is something that can slightly change the meeting with Konrad, as he wont show you killing them.

    • @fiftyfour5454
      @fiftyfour5454  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That makes sense that it changes the ending some. Many others have mentioned this, and it seems to be the biggest thing that I missed. It's interesting that I never even considered warning shots; by that point I had gotten used to the game forcing me, in a linear fashion, to kill people I didn't want to kill.

    • @Musicbox_6
      @Musicbox_6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fiftyfour5454 In my perspective, i see that as the game reinforcing the idea that you are Walkers heart of darkness, at that point, he WOULD kill people he was sent to help. Really liked the analysis, and im happy you made it.

    My buddy Vinny and I play this game annually since it came out. We're hoping to see another game narrative knock us on our ass like this one did.

      I love that so much for you two, ironically really sweet considering the game. 😆
      Might I recommend checking out Killer7 if y'all haven't? It's a wonderfully bizarre political thriller down to the control scheme.

    Those M4A1 sights are technically correct as the rear sights are picatinny mounted and can be moved where ever the user wants and it's even in that way as the standard configuration for some national variants of the M4A1

    03:50 when I played the game, I played it in the 360, so because of the lower resolution I never actually noticed this inconsistency.

      Nice. This game actually looks surprisingly good in 4k though, outside of the pre-rendered cutscenes of course.

    5:05 What exactly do these numbers symbolize? I tried to look for some sources describing this but I couldn't find anything.

    • @fiftyfour5454
      @fiftyfour5454  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be honest, I haven't the foggiest idea. But almost every time Joseph Conrad comes up with a number, it is three terms of three years each, sixty pairs of feet each carrying a sixty pound load, six men in a chain gang, and so on and so forth. Obviously six is the devil's number, which works with the religious themes, but I'm open to other ideas.

    That is not Anti-War, nor Anti-Game
    That's Anti-Power Fantasy

    • @fiftyfour5454
      @fiftyfour5454  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I mean, the game gives you just as much power fantasy as any other shooter. It's just that it explores what the real consequences of that fantasy are. So you may have a point.

    I really thought this was insightful, and without offense I think it may be better to limit the amount of works you are comparing at once. I thought the inclusion of Heart of Darkness was really cool though, and you presented the game quite well

      I beg to differ, good sir. Games are, in fact, experienced at a deeper level than other forms of media; you participate, rather than spectate.
