That is so amazing how these pencils will blend out on the sanded paper with just your fingers even. They seem to lay down enough pigment to act like pastel pencils! I really like the composition of this one :)

I absolutely love watching you work in colored pencil. You make it look so much fun. I've always been shy about trying them other than touching up pieces here and there. Lovely piece as always. Thank you❤

Thanks Lindsay. Looks like a lot more fun than colored pencils which I find so tedious. My ADD just can't handle how slow it goes. This piece is gorgeous. 😍💜

I really enjoyed this video. I was sketching along while I watched. I was doing a still life of my cup of coffee while I sketched and woke myself up. The window was open, the birds were chirping, everything was so peaceful. Then, out of nowhere, a squirrel jumped onto my window screen next to my head and absolutely scared the crap out of me. That woke me up pretty fast. Anyway, every time I look back in my sketchbook at this coffee mug drawing, I will think of the killer squirrel. Happy Independence Day!

I love this one, and it blended out so well, even with your fingers. I would have thought the paper would tear up the pan pastel blender though, even as dense as the foam is, so that was a surprise. As for gesso, you could certainly add sand to the white gesso, but the CLEAR Gesso already has a sand-like grit to it. I use it very often for soft pastel and acrylic works, but had not thought of using colored pencils on it. I'm fairly certain it would work. Thanks for sharing this!

So fun to watch Lindsay. The added color at the end made a big difference. The tomatoes look so realistic. Beautiful work as always. TFS. Happy 4th of July to the frugal family!

I love the Procolour pencils. I'm just a colourist because my drawing sucks, but these pencils are really nice. I bought a second hand set because as you say, many bought them and didn't like them. I find they work really nicely on Amazon print paper or printer paper! I layer lightly and they just keep layering (certainly more than 5) and give me a soft, delicate finish. I want to try some sanded paper with them now so will get a few sheets and try it out. Thank you.

This turned out so nice. Why wait to frame and hang? Do it now and when you paint you can put it in your bedroom til done. Enjoy it now. Interesting to see procolour used on sanded paper with no texture just soft tool. Would love to give that a try. Anything to speed up color pencil work. Thanks for sharing. Glad you filmed this.

Found actual white #400 sandpaper at the hardware store, bought 2 sheets to experiment with since it looked similar 'artist's sanded paper'. Works well!!
Not archival but I bought it to use up all my cheap pencils and photograph my work. Black #400 - 800 works well too. Live near a beach so have also mixed beach sand into clear gesso and tinted with acrylics. Not tried it but builder's sand also works. Do use Art Spectrum ColourFix paper for my 'serious' work, nice product!! Lovely drawing Lindsay!!!! TFS!!

I use Liquitex Clear Gesso to create extra layers when I don't use Pastelmat. I'll create an underpainting on regular Ingres paper; spray it with fixitive (Sennelier) and then paint a coating of Liquitex. It creates a sanded surface and allows you to put more layers on your painting.

I've never used spectra fix but I have used liquitex clear surface prep gesso . Once dry it feels like fine grit sand paper. I tried it because sanded papers are so expensive and this was way cheaper. It's worth a try

Lovely work, and I am just stunned looking at how well those pencils blend. Did I get that right, you are only using the little spongething, no blending medium? Does blending these pencils only work so well on the sanded paper, or are they always like that?

Always enjoyable to watch you create. I think you may be thinking of Art Spectrum Colourfix. I haven't used it personally, but from what I have read it matches with what you were describing. I've personally used Golden pastel ground to make a sanded surface. Doesn't feel as sandy as uart but maybe I should have applied more than one coat of it. I don't use colored pencils often, just aspire to doing more pastel paintings.

When you paint a wall with a dark or more saturated color use a primer that you have tinted close to the finished color. Should just take 2 coats.

I recommend that video too... my favorite is to use water color paper (cellulose paper works great for this too - I don't think more expensive cotton paper would give you any benifit here, paint it a solid color in water color to tone the paper or sometimes a rough background, and use liquetex clear gesso - the clear gesso is the one with the sand grit...

Ha ha! I just watched a tutorial last night about making your own sanded paper. It was from @Fine Art for Christ. The product she used was by Golden and it’s called acrylic ground for pastels. The video is called “How to make your own pastelmat step by step with minimal supplies.”
I am so stunned that you can blend those pencils out with nothing but pressure. Amazing!
Would you be interested in making prints of this? It would look good in anyones kitchen, but my aunt has a red themed kitchen and this would be so perfect.

Thanks for the eye candy, Lindsay! Were you referencing Art Spectrum's ColorFix Primer? They make that primer in all the colours of their prepped sheets, but the primer makes it easy to make your own pastel surface. I use their prepped sheets as I'm lazy. 😜 Seriously though, Art Spectrum makes a quality surface for Pastels and CP!

I wonder if the spiky green not-basil might be arugula? I have that on my pizza a lot, it's often paired with salami on pizzas over here. But arugula tends to be larger. Hm.
And now I want pizza lmao 😅
I love the tomatoes, they look so good. I've seen talk abou UART sanded paper curling over at the Monet Café YT channel as well - good to know that it's a general issue, not just something local to her (e.g. humid climate or something). I still want to try it though, I want to get hold of their trial pack!
