    7:50 The phone support is detachable, and the Android Auto/Apple Carplay is wireless, so I don't understand what was that ranting all about.. It really seems you're missing the point of this car.

    The phone holder is detachable, so you can just remove it if you want. Android Auto and Apple Car Play are wireless (something you don't see that often), so you can keep the phone somewhere else.
    The phone holder position is probably meant for Uber/Taxi drivers.

      I think that that phone docking station is the best thing they can put in a budget car. Its likely that the cheaper (and even the more expensive) built in stuff will look ridiculous 5, let alone 10 yrs from now but in this you just dock your latest phone and there you go.
      That should be copied all over the industry (but they wont...:((( )

      very strange mistake that he did not acknowledge the wireless AA+CP. this is great feature for such a budget car to have.
      IMPORTANT: since April 2021, the Sandero Comfort no longer includes MediaNav. it has Media Display instead, which has no wireless AA+Carplay, only wired, and has no built-in navigation.

    Great review. The Dacia Sandero is an OK car and good value if you spec it right. You mentioned the Toyota Yaris, the cheapest Yaris in the UK is £20k (UK pounds) which is poor value when you consider its flimsy build quality. I would save up a bit more money and buy a basic Honda Jazz hybrid at £18k. Also I have just subscribed and given a thumbs up! Thankyou.

    In response to repeating comments:
    I failed to spot the removable phone holder in the base spec. My mistake. This does not change my opinion about the quality and placement of the holder in Media Display/Media Nav versions. Also the placement of the main USB port makes sense only in the base spec (IMO).
    As for wireless ACP and AA, I don't have an iPhone, so I only rely on my friends' experience that with the battery drain it generates it's best to use a cable anyway. As for wireless AA, it's available on a handful of phones, so I haven't experienced it first hand. Also in the press release it says "wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto" rather than "wireless Apple Carplay AND WIRELESS Android Auto", and in my experience that's a huge difference. I'm not saying it's not there, I just had no way to verify this during filming.

I found Scoda Fabia(quite old), Fiat Panda, Citroen C3, VW UP, Kia Rio, Hyndai I20, Opel Corsa, Peugeot 208, Clio older generation. DACIA SANDERO seems to be today as best option considering value and fact that whole car is filled with new technologies. Okay it is not such bargain as before but still probably 20% cheaper as equivalent car.

    A stock clio zen with the same lpg motor costs around 5/6k€ more than a regular sandero confort in most european countries and has less equipment, not more. If you pick the stepway version you should compare it to the captur (b-suvs, similar look and size) and the price difference is way bigger.
    This car has no competion for its price.

    I left a comment on the UK What Car video as the Stepway has won car of the year by them here in UK. I have owned a Stepway for about 3 years with a Diesel Engine. It has done over 60,000 miles has been faultless and I would say one of the best cars I have owned in 35 years of driving, doing regular runs from Suffolk to Western Ireland up to Covid 19 3 times per year. I was going to replace my Kia crossover with another one, but these are well over £25,000 and honestly no better and the build quality is no better than the Dacia, if a little more glitzy. I had owned a Dacia Denem about 30 years ago and the least said the better. My Stepway costs about £200 a year to insure, is road tax exempt and other than needing a cam belt in 10,000 miles is about £120 for an interim service.

    • @davidb4192
      @davidb4192 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      needs a cambelt at 10,000 miles? Surely that can't be right. That's only 1 year of average motoring.

  • @barrysrobbins

    Hmm, rather a weird review - going for the laughs, I suspect. Also factually incorrect at around 8.10 "If you don't get the screen, you have to get your own phone holder". Lower specs without the screen get a nifty built-in phone holder on the dash that clamps and holds the phone and runs a Dacia app that talks to the car and mimics some of the functions of the higher spec screened model. Overall the review seems to be slightly at odds with other European reviews I have seen (and certainly none I have seen are saying it's comparable to a 20 year old rival car), not least the verdict of What Car 'car of the year' jury. But I guess they weren't going for the laughs and sarcasm?

    • @barrysrobbins
      @barrysrobbins 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Oh, and correct me if I am wrong but Android Auto and Apple Car Play are WIRELESS in this implementation so the whinge about cables and ports is a waste of 45 seconds of review and the sarcastically-meant "brilliant" would appear to be a valid description of the set-up.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't know about wireless ACP/AA. I'm old school, and still need a cable. Also wireless AA is available on a handful of phones.

      @@MarekDrives I appreciate you're old school but the wireless functionality does eliminate (for those with newer phone tech) the cable nonsense that you were right to flag up. Not mentioning it makes Dacia's USB port design oversight seem more egregious than it actually is. Sorry you missed out on the lower spec phone holder - understandable if you you're reviewing a higher spec model. It does actually seem to be an ingenious compromise and well engineered for those with lower budgets, and the adjacent USB port makes a lot of sense if you can get a nice short USB cable. The software interface looks quite simple and effective (even if it does remind me of the ill-fated Windows Mobile operating system!). Thanks for your response.

    In 2024 with most brands quitting Diesel what's available for those of us that do longer commutes or drives to work? LPG sounds like a reliable option vs Hybrids but the offer is really limited to Renault and Dacia with price diferences of around 4K€.
    Would a Skoda Fabia be an alternative then? I leave the question.

      Good news is some brands are going back to petrol and diesel engines, because they saw slow sales after their initial EV offensive. Just yesterday I found out for example Citroen is offering the Traveller with a 2L diesel again (at least here in Poland, where they tried to sell EV only versions for a couple of years with no success). I imagine Renault will come to its senses too, as their hybrids are inferior to Toyota and even Hyundai.

    Looks like decent car for a little money until you don't start to specify it. In Lithuania new Sandero starts at ~€10000, Stepway starts at ~€12000. • @MarekDrives
