Anyone have any experience with Ultima I? Let me know! Check out my first ever playthrough of Ultima I here: th-cam.com/play/PLoiDuuKGlM91VAfHbSwtWhBNE7wWRhk3i.html
I just took a try at this game not too long ago and It’s honestly impressive how much this game has that carried over to console RPGs like Dragon Quest, I also appreciated the vector wire labyrinths, even if it is hard to traverse for me. Although what really confused me was the button inputs, that took me about 20 minutes to figure out most of the inputs. I haven’t gotten too far, but I want to continue playing this game to kind of get a look at what a PC rpg was like in the early 80s.
It’s a pretty fun game especially considering its age! I will admit it took me a bit for the controls as well, probably had a control guide off to the side at first if I remember correctly. Really the only part of the game I didn’t enjoy was the massive gameplay change towards the end of the game… ambitious, I guess, but out of place and tedious! I still need to get to the sequel soon. Thanks for watching!
So I’ve been playing Dragon Quest III, and in the process I’ve stumbled onto the history of the series and the origins of the RPG video game. Ultima I reportedly influenced the original Dragon Quest alongside the game “Wizardry”. You can definitely see that here, from the third-person overworld exploration, to the boat(which was introduced in DQII) and dungeons even. It’s really interesting to look back at these games and realize just how influential they were. Nice review, man!
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Side note: How have you been liking DQIII? I still need to get to that believe it or not. Have a bad habit of replaying games, played the first and second a bunch of times, haha.
Me alegra ver que al menos Wizardry hizo un mas que necesario remake, podemos debatir su precio o calidad, pero indiscutiblemente necesitamos uno de Ultima, ya saben, por cultura y mas placer.
Every time I see someone review one of the Age of Darkness trilogy Ultimas, I can get a sense of their age group just by how they react to Ultima's copyright skirting Hobbits.
First Person view is like Jurassic Park on the SNES; just awful lmao…well not nearly as bad as JP I guess lmao. Interesting game; idk if I would have the patience to play it. Awesome review.
From what I understand the first two, maybe the first three, are pretty easy to pick up and play. I guess at some point the series becomes super in depth and a lot longer. I enjoyed this playthrough! Super old and clunky, but with how short it was... no skin off my back. I usually am able to keep in mind how old something is when playing it and not judging too harshly. That being said, I probably won't play THIS one any time soon. Definitely will get to II at some point in the near future!

A modern update for Ultima would be very interesting!

I’m glad it’s a super short game. In case I ever do play it, there’s that
