Well, as always... great, great episode. There's quite not a lot of people that document the ''behind the scenes'' of every astrophotography session, and the way you do it is outstanding. And by the way, thanks for featuring my question! Feels nice to be featured in a Galactic Hunter episode haha Cheers from Chile!
Nice video you two - loved seeing the behind-the-scenes truth: gummies fuel the world. Thumbs up for your comments about Bortle zone skies, definitely more chance of good visibility in lower Bortle numbers. A few targets have managed to hide behind hazy patches for a long time, the Ring Nebula in Lyra was FINALLY visible here Weds night after 2 months of waiting for it. First time I've ever seen it "in person", and it sure doesn't disappoint. Looked GREAT through the 8 inch Newtonian. Looking forward to your next vid!
Great storytelling here. I loved this video. Immersive and enjoyable. Loved the Eagle Nebula overlay in the background sky. I really wish I had some desert sometime. I can't imagine how serene and blissful it must be to image in the desert. But holy crap that flying bug is huge! You needed that reaper drone to destroy it. Really nice video both of you. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great story telling as always and wonderful image at the end! Also my vote goes to Jupiter.
Wonderful video Dalia and Antoine! Maybe the best one! Informative as usual and very entertaining :-) Yes, like you I also get nervouse every time I start an "astro-session", specially when I go alone to a dark place. I had similar experience like you had, my first time at a dark place, it came a group of motorcycles that had fun in the field beside and unfortunately, after 1 hour I decided to go cause all the dust and the lights.....Another time cows came to visit me and were very curious about what i was doing :-) Thank you both for sharing with us of your astrophotogrphy! I vote for Jupiter!
Thank you so much! Yes the dust can really kill your images.. We used to go to a dry lake to image from time to time but each time there would be cars, bikes or quads making so much dust fly in the air so we gave up on that location.
I think the picture came out fantastic! But as I use my daily dslr for my little astrophoto-hobby I am always a little confused when the nebula behind the pillars is blue ... but all the nebulosity far away from the actual nebula is just breathtaking, now I know why you chose "just" 70mm! Great job!
i just finished watching all your episodes. You're having lots of fun and doing an amazing job documenting it. I would have jumped out of the car to cover my gear when those dust makers were driving by tho lol. Good luck with your APOD goal! I'm sure you'll get there in the future. Just enjoy the journey and building off your experiences. As for the planet choice...I think it will be difficult to capture some good results with wide field gear. need to increase your focal length. I look forward to future episodes. clear skies!
really great episode! I have so many issues with all my gear almost every time, although I always get closer to getting everything to work each time! almost even got my guiding working last night! almost. I get alot of motivation from you guys as I know Im not the only one. Also it makes a good result that much more enjoyable! I got a spectacular comet shot last night
My Bortle two spot would never get off-roaders because it is at the end of a road with a tall gate and a barb wire fence with a sign that says _WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE_ and keep out and all that no trespassing stuff. It is about 30 minutes away and it is near total Bortle one over there to the East. Guys in my Astronomy Club took me out there. I have an F-5 C6-N Newtonian I had refigured to near perfect .98 Strehl & 1/12th wave. A friend in the club likes to use my scope and he did an excellent photo of M16 with it. I was just a beginner and he helped me considerably to build the scope until it is a Takahashi quality telescope disguised as a Celestron. I have a manual mount and he has all the setup for AP. I might buy a nice iOptron mount this Fall, but I'm more visual so I'm not sure.
Hi guys. I'd like to say your video's are getting quite fancy with all the cool effects your use in them. What do you use to get these impressive results ? I love your imagination you guys put into videos to make them so entertaining. Thanks guys. I totally enjoy them
Hey guys awesome videos!! Have you ever thought of going to a star party or messier marathon? There is a all arizona star party at the end of october every year as well as the arizona messier marathon at the end of march i would love to see you guys there its located at a place that looks extremely similar to where you guys are in the video.
Thanks! We've only been to a few star parties here in NV. We'd love to go to one in Arizona and Florida if we can but we'll see what the future holds :)
That was an excellent effort. Really worries when those cars showed up. We've had a similar account when I was in India, couple of friends and I went on a shoot which as going fine, until few people came running and started asking questions. At the end it was a good thing, they were forest rangers and were worries about us, as there was a tiger sighting reported roughly 500 mtrs away from where we were. They kindly asked us to leave. For APOD's would be great to shoot some SH-XX objects or LDN Objects
Oh wow, glad you met the forest rangers and not the tiger then :) Our scariest encounter was when two pick up trucks full of drunk guys drove around us in the middle of the night and yelled insults
Brilliant video as always! And image! I remember the first time I imaged Eagle. Even though it wasn't the greatest result, seeing those iconic pillars is something pretty special as an astrophotographer. By the way, all the spiders in my house say hi ;)
Haha thank you, and I guess, say hi to the spiders for us... ☠️ As for the Eagle, yes the first time we saw the pillars of creation on our DSLR screen was mind blowing.
I loved the whole video, thanks for sharing! Even with all the adversity the final image is fantastic and this will probably be an adventure you will remember. I vote for Saturn, bc it’s my fave! You will be fantastic parents btw 😉
Ok, this time, the gigantic bug was a beauty! The annoying stuff was definitively those boogies (no pun intended) throwing dust at your expensive gear and eventually ruining your subframes. Maybe you should consider an astroimaging trip down here in Chile before thinking about making the family grow.
Oh we'd love to go to Chile so much. We really need to travel because we almost never do and that's something we want to do before having kids for sure.
The main episodes take a long time to film, mostly because we both need to be available without having to work the next day and the night has to be successful. Also we write scripts and ideas for the episode weeks in advance. The editing part takes many days as well.
Best Amateur Astronomers, I'm always watching you and now my girlfriend is watching you guys with me all night long . We're planning to do the same .. you're such a motivation ❤️❤️ we will follow.. thank you so much
Great video! Sorry you did not get the image you were hoping for buy you still should be proud of it! It looks great! I choose Jupiter, its very fun to do timelaspes of it.
I know I'm going to sound like a weirdo here but I'm so happy you said croissant LOL you know how when people imitate Australian people they talk about shrimp on the barbie well when people imitate French people they often say croissant in a heavy French accent. I know that's really goofy of me to say it, it just cracks me up a little. I really hope that's not offensive at all bud. It's definitely not meant to be. Thank you both for another fantastic video you guys are awesome😊
Aww, it was an unfortunate place and time but don’t knock it until you try it! Offroad adventuring at night is really enjoyable and seems out of this world at times. Probably the closest feeling I’ll get to exploring another planet. Anyway, my 2 cents as an astrophotographer and offroad enthusiast.
Finally, M16. I've been waiting for this since EP1 now. Thank you!
This was one of your best videos. I like the way you included the whole imaging outing, from door to door!
Thank you so much!
Your fear of bugs is priceless.
Gummies and M&Ms! The cornerstone of any nutritious astro adventure. I love it. Nice video. Good luck as always. Clear skies.
Haha yes! the best snacks while imaging :D
The giant bugs looks like it might be a Grapevine Beetle.
Love your videos, and living in my favorite city in the world... totally jelly.
Grapevine beetles generally have spots on their wings/back. And their legs are black. This is likely a Scarab (Catalpa) beetle.
Well, as always... great, great episode. There's quite not a lot of people that document the ''behind the scenes'' of every astrophotography session, and the way you do it is outstanding.
And by the way, thanks for featuring my question! Feels nice to be featured in a Galactic Hunter episode haha
Cheers from Chile!
Thank you so much Felipe! 😃
Please include "how to use barlow lens with DSLR in Episode 15 "Saturn & Jupiter" imaging.... If possible...
Can you explain your problem with using it? Maybe I can help.
Jupiter
I think this was your most enjoyable video! Thanks for all the production on it.
I've been waiting for this. I can't wait!! 🍿
I vote for Jupiter. I like trying to capture a transit of one of its moons.
Great fun, thanks for sharing 👍🏻

Thank you! And yes M57 looks so fantastic through the 8" Newt!! Small but so bright!
19:40 3 years later.... you know!!!! wish you all the best again!!!
Loved the video and the teamwork!!!!💯💯🔥🔥

Great final image! Clear Skies! Jupiter is my vote!
super excited about this one!
Nice work and great adventure you took us on. Great videography and awesome M16! I vote for Saturn! 🪐
Thanks!
Great episode! I really appreciate the amount of work you put into these videos!
Thank you very much! 😃
Crazy off road adventure!
Great work on the video you two! Your videography skills are as sharp as your AP skills! Great combo.
Thank you so much!

The final image was AMAZING

That's awesome to hear! And yes we've had so many problems with gear over the years but usually you manage to get things working after a while :)
I am impressed with your the final image. It would be nice if you could show app configuration that you used to capture the raw data.
Thanks! And yes we should have done that in the video! All the info is visible on the blog post though :)
Hahaha! The bug scares you! Very entertaining.
Haha thanks ☠️

Thank you so much! To make our videos we use Final Cut Pro, we try to be a little more creative for every episode :)

Thank you Yvette!!!!

Howdy, I'm new to astrophotography, what is APOD?
might be "astro photo of the day?"
I loved the whole video, thanks for sharing! Even with all the adversity the final image is fantastic and this will probably be an adventure you will remember. I vote for Saturn, bc it’s my fave! You will be fantastic parents btw 😉

Entertaining video as always. I’m sure that APOD is just around the corner.
Fingers crossed, still have a bit of hope for our Sadr region image..
I'm surprised that the location is only Bortle 4 being so far from the city. Keep,up the good work. Tim
Thanks Tim! Yes sadly there is a very busy freeway right by that location and Vegas' light pollution extends pretty far
why do you guys wait so long to release the episode?

Amazing video guys❤️❤️
Thanks!
Best Amateur Astronomers, I'm always watching you and now my girlfriend is watching you guys with me all night long . We're planning to do the same .. you're such a motivation ❤️❤️ we will follow.. thank you so much
Thank you so much to the both of you! 🥰
JUPITER , love your hard work , love from india ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Great video! Sorry you did not get the image you were hoping for buy you still should be proud of it! It looks great! I choose Jupiter, its very fun to do timelaspes of it.
Thank you!
That looks like near the valley of fire. I was just there today and the smoke from the wildfires is blocking the sky. 😭😭
Thank you
You guys are super cute :) I love seeing your videos!
Wth! Who was controlling the drone? 😐
Antoine, we're just good at hiding it haha
Guys, for M16 you need at least f8 scope.
I know I'm going to sound like a weirdo here but I'm so happy you said croissant LOL you know how when people imitate Australian people they talk about shrimp on the barbie well when people imitate French people they often say croissant in a heavy French accent. Haha I 100% agree! Gotta say it the right way :D
Some kind of beatle , I live in Kingman AZ , pretty hot in the desert even at night now, been shooting the meteors and milky way
Saturn my vote, where is the old faithful?
Saturn
My vote goes for Jupiter. Saturn is my favorite planet but Jupiter's bands are just so picturesque.
That bug looks like some kind of cicada
Saturn by far gets my vote
Jupiter
The bug looks like a Grapevine beetle
i just discovered you, i'm glad i did. my vote goes to Jupiter!
Thank you for your vote!
Great video best of luck with APOD but you really have to work on your insect/spider phobias
Maybe in a couple years we'll get attacked by spiders and we'll be so used to it that we won't scream. Let's see if that happens haha
I vote for Jupiter
Those ATV fools kicking up all of that dust pissed me off! Damn Yahoo's!
You do complete each other's sentences
Isso foi só um besouro
M&Ms and gummy bears......yes. My kind of road trip.
Haha can't go wrong with those two :D
If the SXS could see you they should have slowed down ,I’ve have them stop with there lights shining in my face , they don’t know what you are doing
Hey i have an idea!! Why not photograph Jupiter AND Saturn! (͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖)
If everything goes smoothly while filming the episode maybe :D
Saturn!!!
you and a couple dozen rattle snakes
Jupiter
