Unlike many other turntablists today, he kept body tricks in his routine. It was big in the 90s' (if you've seen DMC competitions in 90s' you know.) It's a bit disappointing that less turntablist do DJ body trick nowadays. To me, there's a lot to learn from him, still. Grandmaster Roc Raida, rest in peace. As a father, seeing his daughter on the DJ set was very touching moment for me. I wish her well.
I was in the crowd that night and when NyRaida got on the decks let me tell you pretty much everyone was getting all choked up. It was a very cool moment. R.I.P Raida. One of the reasons I bought a pair of turntables when I was 11. Great editing on this video.
man this really expresses the way I feel in general and musicly wise...I saw a coment from someone the other day on a song that I know how to play now and he said that people are born for it or and someone post back and said no it is whether or not what your dreams are..and this really says it all for me when he says a laid back chill dude who had the mindset of what is right and what is wrong and music, and just like myself, how I really live my life in a way haha...great video...hate he is gone though that is such a shame he was laying down some funkyness on those turntables haha
well spoken!! I have something to add to "It's amazing that we live in the information age, yet your generation's the most ignorant we've ever seen". I think besides all the governments cuts on education the media plays a huge role in this generation's behaviour... Just look at what kids are watching on TV these days and what music is being pushed on the radio
Damn, didn't know Roc Raida passed. I loved his shit on Scratchology as a teen. Been outta the loop for a while, though. That's sad to hear, man. He was talented.
''It's amazing that we live in the information age, yet your generation's the most ignorant we've ever seen'' now that's exactly what I had mind, you couldn't have said more perfect
@2:20 my first set of turntables i had were newmarks that came in a box set, it came with everything needles turntables mixer all for $500. Those decks were so beaten up, at the end of it i was scratching on a turntables that had paper clips to attach the arms.
I was like wtf @ 8:20 all i could say was wow! An then they bring out his daughter @ 9:20 and it brought a tear to my eye! Grand Master Roc Raida was the best to ever do it!
Now I know why what I seen was real and every time I step to turntables it's like I am about to fight, but in essence throw it DOWN. Peace be with All DJ's.
Let me just state the fact that HIP HOP AIN'T EVER GONNA BE DEAD!! HIP HOP CULTURE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE, FOREVER!! FUCK THE ONES WHO DON'T THINK IT WILL...
Maybe because your new to the game. This guy right here was a Legend. He did stuff manually that todays "DJs" do by pressing cue points. I suggest you spend some time and learn your history. If you did, you would know about Grand Master Roc Raida and the X-Ecutioners.
