  • In 1942 British trained Czechoslovak paratroopers carried out Operation Anthropoid, a plan to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich the Nazi deputy Reichs Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. This is the story of how the plan was carried out and the terrible consequences including the destruction of the village of Lidice.
I have done my best to be accurate so I apologise if there are any factual mistakes. Also I apologise for any mispronunciation of Czech names.

Very good factual documentary. The Allied forces post war should not have allowed Czechoslovakia into the Soviet sphere - a huge mistake. The Czechs were very industrious and brave but unfortunately shared a peppered border with Germany - Sudentenland. They had no chance from the very start. The Nazis knew this. God bless the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 and Slovakia 🇸🇰.

For those that are interested, the song played during the first 3.5 minutes is Horst-Wessel-Lied (anthem of the Nazi Party). In English, pronounced (in Texas redneck), Horse-t Vessel lead. Lead as in "Lead from the front." Interestingly, the song has been banned in Germany & Austria since the end of World War II and for good reason. But imagine going to jail for playing a song.
I like this video's version of the song (no, I'm not a Nazi, racist or White supremacist), but good luck finding it (any version), especially on youtube, as they always remove the song because it represents pure hate and evil.
For those that think the unspeakable horrors perpetrated by the subhuman Nazi's (and their entire country) could not happen again - "think" again. Even the US is one Treaty of Versailles, coupled with 20 years of nationwide poverty/strife and someone like Hitler (Trump)...away from it.
Imagine an entire country perpetrating mass genocide for a "leader," or in the case of the Nazi's, Mein Führer Adolf Hitler.

It can be argued that the assassination was not very useful action, regardless of the fact that Heydrich fully deserved it. Reprisals were thorough and caused death of 1500 chechz. And the endlösung went on, was even accelerated. Kaltenbrunner took over the job and he was by no means more lenient than his predecessor.

For sure other options, but of course many people had their own opinions. From wiki... and of course you can check the sources referenced if you like...
"The exiled government felt that it had to do something that would inspire the Czechoslovaks, as well as show the world that the Czechs and Slovaks were allies. In particular, Beneš felt that a dramatic action displaying a Czech contribution to the Allied cause would make it politically harder for the British to forge any possible peace agreement with Germany that would undermine Czech national interests. Heydrich was chosen over Karl Hermann Frank as an assassination target due to his status as the acting Protector of Bohemia and Moravia as well as his reputation for terrorizing local citizens. The operation was also intended to demonstrate to senior Nazis that they were not beyond the reach of Allied forces and the resistance groups they supported."
