It’s strange to me that more feature films aren’t shot on 16mm the clarity and colors are beautiful.
I think because It’s a really specific look, so it requires the right project.
@DelcoAirsoft I completely agree. Truly stunning.
Nowadays almost every movies have the same modern and boring look, that's sad
compositing shoot is great. Film is the best
Lovely.
Really love this song with this one. Beautiful moments and memories.

Thanks so much Ryan for the 16mm content here on YT. Guess what I got myself for Christmas? Yeah, Bolex H16 Reflex with lovely Switar 16, 25 and 75mm lenses. Will take some time to publish something meaningful but I am totally excited, partially because of your content here. Keep posting please and wish you a joyful 2024
That’s awesome, can’t wait to see some footage! Share it when you can.
Excellent!
Thank You, Will!

Cheers Bobby!!
Proper!

You should make a guide on how you shoot these
wow this is gorgeous. are you typically shooting at box speed or overexposing by a stop or two?
Thank you! I usually overexpose by 1 - 2 stops depending on the film stock.
Absolutely gorgeous work as always, Ryan! Your videos inspired me to find a Bolex myself. I’m curious as to what your typical setup/process is with audio field recording? It’s subtle but adds so much texture to the piece!
Thank you. I usually film the scenes with an a7siii and a shotgun mic or I'll use my iphone for audio - or I'll pull from sound libraries or other scenes I've recorded I come up with nothing on location. I've got a huge library of my own sounds at this point and a lot of them are universal.
Really great stuff, Ryan. You have quite the eye for landscapes-- one of your previous reels made me pull the trigger when I had a Rex 4 sitting in my cart back in the fall. Wondering: what lenses do you work with? I currently have two non-rx lenses, trying to debate if they're worth the extra cost.
I use all RX lenses, the kern switar 10 and 25, the vario switar 17-85 and an Angenieux 5.9mm - I've never used non RX lenses on a reflex bolex, but I've heard mixed opinions on it. I would say if you're going to spend the money to shoot 16mm film its worth it to invest in the right lenses for the camera. I think you can get away with non RX lenses shooting at like F8 but once you start to open up it becomes a problem, but I cant say for sure because I've never tried it.
awesome - do you do any colour grading on the footage?
Thanks - all the footage is scanned as log/flat. So everything is “graded” but it’s very simple adjustments to contrast and saturation. The film does most of the work.
Cool. I use a generic LUT from Da vinci resolve on my raw footage as I can't colour grade. I really like your stuff dude. I recently bought an Arri SR used to have a bolex. So much fun. Are you US or UK based? I was in cornwall recently, lokos like you were there? @@RyanNavazio

Thanks for the kind words. Got some stuff in the can from the first week of the year. Fingers crossed it all comes out! Cheers!
