How to travel with dogs (Air India)

- What you need:
A crate for your Dog. If you are flying for the first time with your pet, please acclimatise the pet with the crate. Buy it a few weeks in advance and keep his/her treats in there so that they associate the crate as a happy place. Flying can be a strange / traumatic experience for your pet.
Mine has been flying from the time he was a 5 month old puppy and has flown short sectors only.
We have only flown Air India whenever we traveled with him in the past 3 years and he is fine and fit as a fiddle.
You need to take a xerox copy of his vaccination record and the health certificate as well.

your dog is very disciplined at the airport, which is my case my dog is gonna get over excited and want to run around everywhere and bark. so what do u suggest in that case will the airline allow me to take him in the flight?
At which point the airlines might ask you to sedate the dog. I m not a fan of that.

You mentioned that you've taken your pet via flight a number of times in cargo. I am planning to take my cat this month. My cat is around 6kg so I won't be able to take him in cabin. I called Air india and they said that if I want to carry my pet in cargo, the cargo hold needs to be pressurised. If not, I'll have to leave my pet and someone else will have to board him on another flight. Have you faced such a problem while travelling with your pet? What should I do if this is the case?

@@ashaakhilesh2853 yes I did. Due to pandemic only Air India is transporting pets as of now. If the pet weighs less than 5 kgs they can travel with you in the cabin. Mine was around 6kgs then. So she had to travel in cargo section. Had to pay somewhere around 5k. This price includes base cost/kg of pet, handling charges, x-ray charges and taxes.

If you havent trained your dog to be away from you at all then you have a problem :) As for my dog, the eldest one has taken at least 25 flights in 4 years.

There are issues with bringing dogs into the country, but I believe the rules are that if the dog has been with you for a certain amount of time, you could.
