What's really awesome about the Eternal Champions logo is the one he shows isn't the only one there is. Each of the different fighters has their own way of attacking the Sega logo, and you get a random fighter every time you booted the game up. My fav was vampire fighter MidKnight, who drained the logo of its "blood."
There were actually a few high level trademark standards that devs had to comply with on the Genesis, and ones that altered or somehow interacted with the logo had to be approved by Sega as part of the publishing process. Luckily Sega wasn't totally against devs having fun with the logo screen, but I'm sure there's a file cabinet full of rejected treatments in a corporate basement somewhere.
Garfield: Caught in the Act, Alladin, Taz-Mania and Erathworm Jim are the ones I recall from the good old days, and yeah- it was pretty much just SEGA letting their devs and third party devs play around with the screen like this. A fun little diversion, I am so gonna check out the full video with all the logos now!
I might be biased but ristars opening is probably one of my favorites because it had calm music and the letter comes down to its place and my favorite part is that sense earth is in the background, it means that right after the sega logo it gets right onto the intro
so the earthworm jim 2 sega logo is also on the snes game as well but instead of sega its playmates logo, thats going the extra step for a developer back in the day
Some of the ones that I remember is the logo from eternal champions obviously because it would be different depending on how many times you restarted the button you would get a different character destroying it. And as I remember on The Little mermaid game you see the logo against like a watery background and there's like music and stuff. I forgot about that badass logo from comic zone it's like it's getting you ready for a different experience because as soon as you start playing that game you realize that it is a different experience and not an easy one but well worth it to see how far you can get
This was a cool video! I grew up a Nintendo kid so I only got to play Sega at cousins or friends houses. I always thought the Sonic Sega intro was on every game lol. Didn't find out until well into adulthood that they had a slew of different ones and this video highlighted some great ones!
I'd have to put that Comix Zone logo as #1. To this day a lot of times when I'm checking the level on a mic before recording, if happen to say "test, 1, 2", it will definitely be followed by "🎶Seeega". And Vectorman is at least in top 5, especially considering you can control him, interact with the logo AND even find a hidden TV to make the logo "go boom".
My pick for the top "SEGA" logo is actually for X-Men 2: Clone Wars, but it isn't because of the logo itself. It has to do with the fact that the game begins immediately with a "Prologue" level the moment that the player turns on the Genesis. The only way to get to the "SEGA" logo is by completing the level. Players could also hit the "Reset" button on the Genesis to initially change characters.
My all time time favorite Sega logo is from sonic 2,I am surprised the choir is from 1983 I like the one from Aladdin,my friends had this game, the two sisters were obssied with Aladdin
I’m more drawn to sega at moment what with lots of new games to get through and some real creativity that’s in short supply with snes but NOT nes that’s so cool also
Spot Goes To Hollywood! Where Spot is on the screen next to a slab and he chisels out the SEGA Logo! Flips and catches the hammer a few times! Drops the hammer on his foot! Hollers! Holds his foot jumping around!
I feel like you should have given more time to the Eternal Champions one. Every character has a different logo screen that is randomly shown every time you turned it on. Xavier turning it to gold was my favorite of them.
glad to see devilish made the list. It's in my top 5 games to grab on the genesis. Might have to hook up and play the genesis tonight after watching this
I always thought it was Paul Shaffer's (from the Late Show) voice for Comix Zone's Sega logo. The Genesis Gems Podcast answered my question of that being true as, not true.
I didn't really like the game, but i always thought it was really cool that Eternal Champions had an intro for most (or all, not sure) characters that played randomly. The Treasure intros are probably my favorite though, because I'm a complete mark for Treasure, lol.
The ability for the Genesis to display amazing pixel art (and even crude video) was freaking amazing at the time and impressive as heck decades later as an adult who fully understands that weak little workhorse.
The G to E "Se-Ga" chime might have just been an arbitrary choice, but it reminded me of how the NBC chime is G-E-C because the original NBC radio station was sponsored by the General Electric Company
Some genesis games were different than thier snes counterparts. For example NBA jam for genesis has music during the game itself, fhe Snes version of nba jam does not have music during the basketball game.
My friend had NBA jam for his genesis way back when the game was first out. It has that cool animation for the intro and the Casio keyboard soundtrack.
SUBSCRIBE for SEGA
Love the merchandise- make more hats!!!!
I'm already subscribed now bring on the SEGA please and thank you John👍👍
SEGA!
This idea of playing with the SEGA logo is so creative, it represents an era where games were a symbol of fun. Genesis is my favorite console.
Did you know, in Garfield: Caught In The Act, the Sega logo actually has a sound fanfare that can be heard after it finishes the demo screen?
Vectorman's was fun because you could use it to access a hidden minigame and if you won you'd get to start a few levels later in the game.
Always enjoyed the creativity with the Sega logo. Get you in the right mood for the game. 😊
The Jurassic Park SEGA intro is my favorite. Also, MKll (Shao Khan + Kintaro) SNES and South Park (iguana) N64.
And each fighter destroys the Sega logo in a different way - except for Ray: the logo fights back, and the one who loses the fight is the fighter.
@@edmsantiago Love that irony. XD
7:34 I've never played the game, but I knew that was Star Trek before you said. Classic sound lol
I always loved seeing developers having a bit of fun with the logos. Simple but unique
Cool idea for a video. I haven't seen anyone else do it yet. Good stuff John. Cheers!
20 timeless Sega intros, John. All of them are flawless.
My favourite is probably Toejam and Earl. It’s not impressive, but I love the humour
Yeah Riggs, this is how you do it man! All of this takes me back. This is such a neat idea I don't know why anyone hasn't done this before.
Puggsy and Sonic 3 were a couple of my favourites growing up
I might be biased but ristars opening is probably one of my favorites because it had calm music and the letter comes down to its place and my favorite part is that sense earth is in the background, it means that right after the sega logo it gets right onto the intro
But ristar is kinda goated so that’s probably why I said that
so the earthworm jim 2 sega logo is also on the snes game as well but instead of sega its playmates logo, thats going the extra step for a developer back in the day
Again thanks for supporting my fav video game system
The Jurassic Park one is my personal favorite with the T-REX. lol
Still bringing the original and fun and also interesting content decades after. You are the chosen one!!
Some of the ones that I remember is the logo from eternal champions obviously because it would be different depending on how many times you restarted the button you would get a different character destroying it. Stimpy's Invention with The Sega Logo as Log from Blam-O
The one for the first Cool Spot is cool, but I also love the comedy in Spot Goes To Hollywood's one.
Awesome video idea! Huge Sega Genesis Fan.
Shadowrun logo is by far my favorite
Loved this one. More videos about quirky title screens, please!
WELCOMETOTHENEXTLEVEL...So many classics. Teaching a T-Rex to speak is probably the best.
My pick for the top "SEGA" logo is actually for X-Men 2: Clone Wars, but it isn't because of the logo itself. Man I loved Comix Zone. I played it a lot but never beat it as a kid
Love Cool Spot from way back in the day and way happy to see it pop up as a logo here :)
My all time time favorite Sega logo is from sonic 2,I am surprised the choir is from 1983
I like the one from Aladdin,my friends had this game, the two sisters were obssied with Aladdin
"Genesis DOES What NintenDON'T!"
I’m more drawn to sega at moment what with lots of new games to get through and some real creativity that’s in short supply with snes but NOT nes that’s so cool also

That toejam and Earl music so funky dawg!!
T-Rex was always my favorite.
glad to see devilish made the list. It's in my top 5 games to grab on the genesis. Might have to hook up and play the genesis tonight after watching this
it's a game nobody talks about. I'll mention it in my next recommendations video
whoa that Devilish one was def new to me, all these make me feel at home though : D
Vectorman also had an interesting logo that you could unlock a cheat code too
I always thought it was Paul Shaffer's (from the Late Show) voice for Comix Zone's Sega logo. The Genesis Gems Podcast answered my question of that being true as, not true.
Well Bill Murrays biggest regret is Garfield 😂
What’s the red ring one at 0:50?
It's from Alien Soldier. Its a Run and Gun made by Treasure.
Yep. Alien Soldier. Great game. Though, now that I think of it, I don't think it was officially released in the US.
@@System_Sega thank you!!!
@@FlashbackFred Thanks. Glad I could help.
LOG LOG LOG ITS BIG ITS HEAVY ITS WOOD!
It's Better Than Bad, It's Good!
Dad I'm honestly shocked you didn't say "panic!" For any spot🤣
I forgot about these
My favorite is Star Trek
You should be a game character you have that look? Love your content.
I didn't really like the game, but i always thought it was really cool that Eternal Champions had an intro for most (or all, not sure) characters that played randomly. The Treasure intros are probably my favorite though, because I'm a complete mark for Treasure, lol.
Jurassic Park was one of the games that made me want a Genesis
The ability for the Genesis to display amazing pixel art (and even crude video) was freaking amazing at the time and impressive as heck decades later as an adult who fully understands that weak little workhorse.
The G to E "Se-Ga" chime might have just been an arbitrary choice, but it reminded me of how the NBC chime is G-E-C because the original NBC radio station was sponsored by the General Electric Company
Streets of rage 2 and Beavis and Butthead are the only games I beat on genius. I have typed that already 😂
I love Sega I miss the 90s Sega vs Nintendo love thm both
Some genesis games were different than thier snes counterparts. For example NBA jam for genesis has music during the game itself, fhe Snes version of nba jam does not have music during the basketball game.
I remember 1 it was 3 claws rip throght sega logo
Are you gonna be in Phoenix in march for the gaming expo?
Sega? Aaaah, the guys who made that stupid blue hedgehog.🙃 But nice idea to make a video about!
NBA Jam needs to be on this imo.... Monster Jam hes on fire!! Oh wait thats the acclaim logo rather than Sega. oops
My friend had NBA jam for his genesis way back when the game was first out. It has that cool animation for the intro and the Casio keyboard soundtrack.
So, a bit disappointed that the Shadowrun Sega logo did not get a nod. Avatar comes up shoots lightning from its hands and the logo appears.
Wow ,didn;t know those all existed.
SEGA does what ninten…
I like the Jurassic Park one.😀👍🎮
Which one is football? Lol you didn’t specify the title
I noticed the same thing
It's from NFL 95 from Sega sports
Vectorman had the best Sega logo
spotify even has it, called the "sega call" .... Sayyyyyy -gguhhhh
I always thought toe jam and earl was weird and not funny. They.. sneeze? And the ship moves up? To me it made no sense lol
👍👍™️
YOU are harsh did not play sega but still
why would they make a game about a cup
