  • Melissa Huston, a guide for Annapolis Tours & Crawls, discusses the history of Annapolis, Maryland. Long a center for sailing and oysters, Annapolis reached the height of its prominence between the 1770s - 1790s, when it was known as the "Athens of America." But after decades as a crossroads for American political and cultural life, the city slipped into a century-long recession in the late 1790s. The recession served to stifle development and preserve much of the colonial look and feel that so many people enjoy about Annapolis today.

I am a WAWA driver and was delivering to your local wawa store on 5/29/23 around 6 pm. While delivering I dropped a stack of crates that contained approximately 120 pieces of various drink products. The drinks started rolling down the parking lot when all of the sudden everyone that was at various locations doing their various lives stopped what they were doing, even the ones at the gas pumps and took notice of my sudden dilemma. They ALL and I mean ALL, walked towards me and started picking up the mess. Within 3 minutes time these total strangers stopped their lives and helped me another total stranger in distress, had all of the drinks picked up and back in their sorted crates. WOW just wow. With all of the negativity you hear on the news outlets about violence and everyone being selfish and not having time for anyone just paid it forward. I cant say enough at the amount of gratitude I felt and how taken back I was at the kindness I just witnessed. A big heart felt thank you to all of the people of Annapolis at your local WAWA. Blessings to you all for showing what can be accomplished if we all stick together and help everyone get through this thing called life. Thank you for showing me the kind of people that reside in and around Annapolis MD. Peace be with you all for paying it forward, You are all special.

They have too many tattoos. I hate tattoos. They look cheesy and tacky. Many employers won't hire you if you have a visible tattoo.

Athens of America? No way, sweet-faced Jose! All people do here is drive, eat, shop and get tattoos.

Not trying to be critical but for future reference PLEASE pronounce the word “especially” correctly. There is no X in that word! Thank you from an old English teacher.
