  • Rebecca Morris discusses the Parole camps during the Civil War. Both sides wrestled with how to handle their own parolees. The Union selected Annapolis as the best place to house most of their men until they could return to duty.

I am reading this book right now. Very interesting. My husband's 2nd great grandfather was sent to Camp Parole at the end of March 1865 when he was exchanged from the Salisbury Prison in North Carolina. He was there until Apr 13, 1865 when he was granted a 30 day furlough. William Harvey Gray, 54th PA Infantry, captured at the Battle of Cedar Creek VA.

My ggrandfather was at Camp Parole, after the siege of Harper's Ferry. He was in Company D 1st Maryland Potomac Home Brigade. Thanks for doing this research. I would love to see where my ancestor walked, and look forward of reading this piece of precious history. Dr. Nick
