By many international standards, 52 m² are not small.
And when you keep in mind a part of Hong Kong's population lives in closets and cages (do your research if you don't believe me), you can call this apartment a mansion.
That said, it is a nice interior.

@@jinpingthebear110 as a hong konger i can tell u that sub-divided flats in hk are very common. even though it’s illegal, people still live in them coz they are rly poor. the rent of a mere 100 square feet ‘room’ can be up to 4000 hkd, but it’s relatively cheap compared to normal flats.

@@hillary2480 I’m also a hker but I found my experience quite different from yours, I do reckon there are quite a bit of subdivided flats however in my own experience I’ve never met anyone who actually live in them. All my classmates from school, friends from work or people I know live in small flats but no where as small as a subdivided flat or cage homes. Those homes are common in the sense of no other country have them, but as a comment pointed out it’s only 3% of the housing in hk, the majority are just overly expensive tiny flats. I believe there’s a misconception of everyone in hk lives in cage homes or subdivided flats which is not true.

A lot of comments have already said this but he succeeded so well in his mission to create a calm space - it's such a soothing palette, layout, design, and textural space. I don't think we got the full effect of the texture wallpaper on the storage doors in the living room but I can imagine how much warmth and interest they add without making the space busy or crowded with color. This apartment renovation is extremely well done. I love even the position of the three plants on the balcony so you see these as an extension of the living space from the front door. He has maximized storage while keeping it low key. Lucky for him he has a good sized kitchen for Asia and didn't need much change. The only thing I thought was dated was the tablecloth on the dining table. I have seen where the air conditioner area is semi-concealed by adding wood slats as decor. I love the computer desk extension and how it is part of the long narrow below the window storage. Really reallly well done. The addition of the arched door ways is wonderful and classic yet working in a modern setting.

Everything about this apartment is amazing, but that kitchen is just gorgeous. Too many of these go entirely open concept when in a small apartment, separating the kitchen can make it feel much more comfortable

This is one of the very few apartments in HK that I like. It’s so bright and spacious without those floor storage or ceiling hanging cabinets. The color choices are also very smart. Less is more.

I would creep myself out sleeping right in front of mirror. Imagine, you wake up from your sleep in the middle of the night and first thing you notice is that someone else is also sleeping opposite you.

I was surprised at that as well. It's a relatively well-known superstition in Chinese culture not to have the mirror opposite the bed. But, the mirror does open up the space.

My bedroom has this - the wall by my bed is all mirror. You learn to ignore it, or just prop your pillow up to block. It still brings a lot of light and space into a room.

As much as I LOVE the design and warm rice colour tone used, it is a DAMN BIG apartment in Hong Kong standard or internationally ESPECIALLY for one person. Though the modification of storage room joining living space behind the sofa is a very nice idea.
