Love the mindset of "frosting is proof it is a soy candle" so positive and accepting for when things don't look so perfect. My ocd thanks you for that!
I'm about to start my candle business venture. Thanks Kevin and your amazing company, Armatage! You have been so helpful to me since day 1. You're the best!
I'm so glad that I came across your video. I was literally about to redo an entire candle just because of the frosting that actually looks cool, but I was so worried about my customers. You put my mind at ease lol!! Thank you!
I absolutely love this detailed video because I have a small business currently with soy wax candles and that’s been an issue for me but this is such a relief to hear…thanks !
I just create a title for the candle... example frosted vanilla or if the top isnt smooth... floral crumble🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️it worked people loved it & bought them
What about frosting (white dotty crystals😭) in pillar candles? I'm wanting to mk colorful mini bubbles bt this issue ruins my spirit everyday of me testing different temperatures and color quantity. Please help 😞
I'm sick of frosting! I especially hate it when I'm trying to take initial product pics or update product pics and the candle looks horrible! I have a disclaimer on my descriptions to let the customer know it's normal n don't affect the smell.
@@ArmatageCandleCompany I have been thinking about it. I recently tried some candles made with cocosoy n the ht was amazing! But I have a customer that is allergic to coconut she can't even smell it, so I didn't want to go that route but I have seriously been thinking about trying paraffin. Thank you

@@ArmatageCandleCompany thank you very much! I was reading some of your blogs last night n this morning but I didn't read that one. I learned a lot though n I been doing this almost a year! Thank you!
I forgot that I hit like on this video early on, and I kept looking at the like button several times while you were talking wanting to hit like again. Thank you for putting this information out!
Hi Armatage Candle Company! Thank you for this video it REALLY helped us. We are some quite beginners in Hungary, making soy wax candles and we were worried about this so called frosting. What do you think about adding stearin to soy wax? I read that it makes soy candles more dense and raising its viscosity (but we dont know if its a good or a bad thing). We are hoping that this stearin can solve frosting or maybe 70-80% of it. Thank you for your reply in advance
I’m making coloured candles in a mold! Should I leave it in the mold to cure or do I remove the mold as soon as the candle is cool enough & set!?? Thanks
So i use a silicone mold and make candles through this do i have to clean out the silicone everytime i pour wax into it ? Because it has left over dust from last candle
Unfortunately, frosting is unavoidable. I'd probably try adding some paraffin to your blend if you can. Even if you find a good pouring temp that agrees with your design, eventually it will frost again. Just the nature of a hydrogenated vegetable oil (soy wax). I wish I had better answers for you!
Im pretty new to this in comparison to some but I always go with a 70/30 blend with soy/paraffin.. the paraffin helps a scent throw too .. It doesn't completely eradicate frosting but it cuts it down a good amount ..
Is there any soy wax blends beside soy and paraffin you’d recommend? I want to use as much natural products in my candles I can and avoid paraffin. But I also have issues with soy only wax sometimes. Especially for jar candles. I don’t have problems with frosting but I do have issues with adhesion and sometimes dips in the center of my candle. No sinkholes though. I’ve tried heating up the glass before pouring and that helps but if I’m doing more than a few candles it’s difficult to do that. I’m wondering if a soy blend would be easier to work with.
Certainly - you can blend with any wax you want and see how it behaves. A few other non-paraffins you should try are Palm, Beeswax, or coconut. As with everything candle making, make sure to test whatever you do in the conditions you expect to use them (fragrance, container, etc). Best of luck!
Great question - making a smaller candle in the same vessel is definitely okay. It helps to streamline testing since it shows you what the burn will kind of be like in that lower area of the candle. My only caution is that if it goes well, I wouldn't accept that as your "sign off" test. I always prove it by making a full candle of that same design and running it through the industry standard test requirements laid out by ASTM 2417. But... if you're just making it for non-selling purposes then anything goes, I suppose! Hope that helps.
I’m super confused with my candles. If I pour it with a high temp there is some frosting on 3 out 5 candles. If I pour at low temp there is going to be 5 out 5 frosting 😢 I keep them in the same place, don’t move them at all but next day I will come up to check on them and see the frosting I understand myself that frosting is not a big deal and doesn’t effect the smell or burn of the candle but I don’t think customers might understand that
Same what iliminated my frosting was modifying my blend by adding bees wax. Adding a paraffin wax is cheaper than bees wax and I got lovely cohesive smooth surfaces with both.
Hi, I have a challenge with my wick. I've changed it from a thin basic one to a thicker braided one yet is still struggles to burn consistently with the correct sized flame. The flame seems to reduce and then go out. Please can you help?
Frosting really comes down to keeping your temperatures as stable as possible after pouring. It's technically unavoidable, but after two weeks in a stable environment you'll have a decent look at what that candle will look like.
Ha! I love your approach! Have you tried using palm wax for anything? Frosting is a GOAL there, whereas a lot of (other) people try to avoid having it on their soy candles.
Armatage Candle Company omg no I haven’t!!!! I think I should give it a go!! I think frosting makes it look more homemade or handcrafted or even pretty :) and true. Many people tend to avoid it
Great question - many answers. I just finished a breakdown of soy vs paraffin on my site, which could be a good start to the conversation. Give this a read if you're interested! armatagecandlecompany.com/blog/soy-vs-paraffin/
But but . . I actually want the frosting and I can't find a single tutorial on how to create a frosting effect. I want to be the heisenberg, the Mr White of insane quality crystals in my candles. I want mafia wars and tv shows as a consequence of my product. I want people to feel high on my candle light

Preach! Frosting is so defeating when you start out and don't realize what's happening.
Not true. Frosting impacts my pure paraffin candles much more than my soy-paraffin blends.

In your opinion, how would you blend C3 Soy with Pro 400 Pariffin? Meaning Ratio. Thank you for your Channel. You are helpful to people like myself.
If Soy is blended with Coconut, does it still frost over?
Your videos are so useful, thanks
Thank you

How long are you supposed to wait before you light the candle after it’s made ?
For soy, at least two weeks
How about bubble candles ?

Can we use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun🤫?sorry newbie here!
i’ve tried before but it can make a bit of a mess cause the hairdryer blows the air/wax instead of just gently heating it
