I feel like many people don't get the point Jace was trying to make.
Jace has been harassed by the greens and their supporters through his whole childhood because of his parentage. Having his own dragon, Vermax, was a reminder of his identity, that he actually is a legitimate Targaryen. But if any bastard could claim a dragon, what does that make him? He also has been saying throughout this whole season how insecure he is about his legitimaty and how he wants to fight for it so he is seen worthy for the throne, so it's no surprise that he finally brought it up.
What if those new riders just decide to switch up on them and want to have their own claim to the throne? What if Rhaenyra dies, Jace is her heir, will those men in her council and the rest of the realm that are loyal to Rhaenyra wanna fight for him?
Those bastards have more Targaryen features than Jace and who is to say that the realm won't change their loyalty because of that.
Let's not forget the fact that they now got dragons that are way larger than Jace's own, he would have no chance against them

I understood his point right away and on one hand I did feel bad for him. Clearly Rhaenyra and even Daemon don't play political games very well and their children are too good natured. But if his fears had come to light Jace would have had an advantage. He was raised a prince not a low born, is a direct gandson of King Viserys and was recognized by him as well. Not to mention he had the backing of the Sea snake. There are ways to off dragon riders without having to fight their dragons. Jace needs to man up and focus on the problems in front of him while making contingency plans for possible problems in the future.
Another thing (and I know its a stretch) Jace knows he's a bastard, has known since was a child. Instead of pursuing to be his mothers heir, why not serve as a knight and let the title pass to her first legitimate son Aegon III. That would quell any argument, others made against Rhaenyra trying to seat a bastard.

I swear people are getting more and more mindless and require someone to hold their hands to even understand a plot. A plot which is not complicated to understand tbh, sure there are a lot of names and characters. But if one watches with interest, it's really not hard to understand!

I think they get it, but the language, especially using "mongrel" which has deep-rooted racial connotations throughout history, throws people off in that moment. But when you watch it back or think about it later, you get it. It's just hard to feel sympathetic for someone who uses such harsh language against those in the lower class. They seemed to at least understand it more after the episode.

The reason Jace doesn’t want the bastards to ride dragons is because him having a dragon is the symbol of his legitimacy. If any bastard can claim a dragon this challenges his legitimacy. Especially if the bastards have Vermithor or Silverwing, who could easily demolish Vermax, Jace’s dragon. So it’s not so much a matter of being spoilt, more a matter of losing his life and claim to the throne…

Exactly. Many lords of the realm never liked Rhaenyra as heir and have mocked her children behind her back this whole time. They might back her and Daemon's oldest over an outsider if she wins, but Jace? Imo it wouldn't take that much persuasion for them to choose someone like Hugh over him, if he were to challenge the succession. Sure, he's possibly lowborn on one side, but he looks Targ, has Vermithor and is the grandson of king Jehaerys! I think people are dismissing the concerns because they don't like his attitude, but they're very valid.

Both Hugh and Ulf arguably have more legitimacy, Hugh as the son of Saera is Jaehaerys' grandson and Viserys'/Daemon's cousin, Ulf as the son of Baelon is Jaehaerys' grandson and Viserys'/Daemon's half brother.
Of course proving a bastards lineage would never normally work outside of their parent legitimising them, but if that bastard has a dragon proving they have Targ blood then it's just politics and the truth doesn't matter.

I came here to say exactly this. Last season we see Daemon have to break one open to pull out the eggs. It's kind of an incubation process that the dragons use for their eggs (which is why all the eggs outside of the mountain are kept in braziers of hot coals).
In fact, Laena said in season 1 that about half the eggs the Targaryens collect never hatch, and I can't help but wonder if it is because they have been taken out of the "nourishment" of whatever that sticky membrane is along with the fact that the dragon's own breath can heat the incubation pod to a much hotter temp than the Keepers' hot coals do.

Right? He told Daemon the river lords weren't just going to do what Oscar says until/if he can prove his authority in their eyes, which is why he quietly asked him so only Daemon (and the tree) could hear it, "Would you have our army or not?" He's basically saying to Daemon to shut up and let him prove to the river lords that he might be young, BUT he won't be intimidated, and he isn't scared to speak truth to power. Daemon has a reputation for being deadly, for striking hard, striking fast, no mercy. People don't push him as far as they could (or should), they don't dare to call him out for his behavior.
But Oscar has been sitting at home for the last few weeks stewing over the fact that Daemon _dared_ to tell him to smother his grandpa. No doubt he's pissed, and any shine Daemon had when they first met has been rubbed off. And SOMEONE -- either Riverrun's Maester or possibly even Alys in her time there -- has reminded Oscar that Daemon NEEDS his backing, so he can't afford to do anything rash. He wouldn't DARE to kill Oscar right now.
And the second that Daemon seemed to forget that and got threatening, Oscar reminded him that he needs that army, and he isn't going to get it without Oscar commanding them to assemble, and Oscar can't command ANYTHING until he proves himself as the new Lord Paramount.

Hugh's mom is implied to be Saera Targaryen, a notoriously rebellious and “free-spirited” princess. She was the daughter of King Jaehaerys I, and the sister to Baelon Targaryen (Viserys's and Daemon's father) and Aemon Targaryen (Rhaenys’s father). Hugh is Rhaenys, Viserys, and Daemon's cousin, while Ulf is their bastard half-brother.

I like how its becoming very clear that Rhaenyra is becoming a religious fanatic by believing (with each thing that unravels, including that of seasmoke claiming Adam) are the Gods making things work in her favour to let her fulfill the prophecy.
It's almost as though she believes that if the Gods didn't want her to be on the throne, her ploy to get the Army of Bastards to claim the 2 dragons would not work. But it did! It makes perfect sense how she's found religion and prophecy to rely on in grief of losing her father, 2 children, her aunt and daemon (as she believes). Doesn't matter what the future holds (with betrayal or death), she thinks she's right in the things she's doing because she believes her and her blood are the future.

Remember season one when Daemon went to the dragon pit he also got some eggs and he had to break through the same membrane. Also from the lore dragon eggs are very durable so it will take more than someone stepping on it to destroy it. Not to mention they are covered in scales.

Jace isn't wrong at all in this point of view... the only reason people accept his, Luke's and Joffrey's legitimacy as pure-blood Targaryens, children of Rhaenyra and Laenor, is the fact that their dragon eggs hatched when they were born and their ties to the dragons gradually increased as they grew to the point where they became their riders. Allowing lowborn bastards or people with no connection to the Targaryen blood to claim a dragon basically tells the common people that the Targaryens' connection to dragons is nothing special, just like Cole was very wrong when he displayed Meleys' head around Kingsland, basically showing that dragons are not invincible gods. Both sides of the coin are understandable, both Jace and Rhaenyra, after all if these lowborn bastards and commoners can do this, what stops them from using this divine force (the dragons) to face the Targaryens and want to usurp the Iron Throne from them? both concerns are understandable: Rhaenyra wanting to end the war so she can rule in peace and Jace wanting to fight for his mother's legitimacy and his own claim to the Iron Throne but at the same time questioning whether when she is gone, people will accept him as King and not end up suffering what his mother is currently suffering with the usurpation of the greens.

Vermithor accepted Hugh cos (according to the series) he's a grandson of King Jaehaerys I, the last rider of Vermithor. Hugh is son of Saera Targaryen and cousin of Daemon and Viserys.
Ulf, is son of Baelon, who's father of Viserys and Daemon, so Ulf is their half-brother. Ulf is grandson of Alyssane, King Jaehaerys I's wife, and the last rider of Silverwing.
So, as descendents of Jaehaerys I and Alyssane, it's probably that both dragons sent it in their blood that lineage and accept them as riders.

The reason why I think Jace was a little upset at Rhaenyra for letting the other bastards to try and ride dragons is that it would in a way delegitimization his claim to the throne because he’s a bastard which everyone essentially knows already but the only way he does have a claim is because he has a dragon. So if the other bastards claim a dragon, then they might see that they could have a claim to the throne as well and could fight Jace for it down the road when Rhaenyra is gone.

I think it’s important to note that the reason there was such a big misdirection with Seasmoke is because of his/her personality. Seasmoke is a younger dragon and more jovial (much like his/her former rider, Laenor) - the trolling of Ser Darklyn reflected this. Vermithor‘s nickname is the bronze fury and a big reason why he chose Hugh was because of his bravery and rage (hence why we see him screaming). Silverwing was lonely, much like Ulf (we have only seen him alone and without a family when he is not out drinking - very much unlike Hugh haha), so she chose him. There is no exact science to bonding with a dragon and becoming a rider; it is very dragon-dependent.
Also, a random note, did anyone else catch Rhaenyra’s line about “ash in the wind” and how it was a bit of a callback/reference to how she was beginning to view things happening in the world in episode 2 (I think it was) of this season when both her Heleana are shown staring at dust/particles floating in the air? I appreciated that, especially since they lingered on those shots longer than usual.

He seems to have no core group of people who love him or depend on him outside of his funny drunk tales of being a royal bastard. Do we even know what his job is?
Maybe lonely isn’t the best word, though I’d wager it still works - but what would you rather say: aimless? purposeless? lack of meaningful interaction and work?

p.s. he stepped into a nest, not an egg. We saw earlier in the season that the egg clutches were in nests protected with goo.

You misunderstand Jace. His concerns are absolutely correct.
The *only* thing that elevates him and his brother above base accusations is dragons. The *only* thing that elevates the Targayryens above other nobles is dragons. And you are giving nuclear weapons to commoners with no loyalty to any noble house of, more importantly, to the institution as a whole.
Giving dragons to other noble houses is incredibly risky. Giving them to baseborn is perilous. It not only terribly imperils Rhaenyra's succession, but can completely undermine the Iron Throne as an institution. And that can lead to a far worse war than the one Rhaenyra is trying to stop.
OK. To set the record straight. Despite what Dumb&Dumber showed you in the previous show, full-grown dragons are *almost invincible* . Their hides surpass any metal and are essentially impervious to anything but another dragon. Pretty much the only vulnerable spots for a grown dragon are the eyes. So no amount of scorpion bolts will do f*ck all to Silverwing, Vermithor, etc. The *only* time in known history where a dragon was killed by a bolt in the eye was the *insanely* lucky shot that felled Meraxes, the dragon of Aegon the Conqueror's sister-wife Rhaenys.

If I remember correctly, dragon eggs are covered by a gelatinous membrane with heat. It is also seen when Demond takes dragon rock eggs.

Silverwing and Vermithor are partners/mates. Silverwing is the mother of Rheanyra’s dragon Syrax. That’s why they designed her similar to her.
Silverwing looks STUNNING, her color is of molten metal🩶🩶🩶

It’s crazy how team black has outnumbered team green in dragons since the beginning and still hasn’t ended the war

Alicent may be going through a character transformation, she may become more sympathetic next season. Juxtaposed with Rhaenyra watching the small folk burn from her balcony like a mad queen may signal a tonal shift for both characters.

Vermithor is much younger than Vhagar and is about 70% the size of Vhagar. Vhagar is almost the age of balarion, when he gave up flying. Vhagar in dragonages, is an old man.
