SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS & ONION GRAVY 6-8 Bone-in Pork Chops Kosher Salt for flavor Coarse Black Pepper for flavor 1 Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil 2 Onions 1/2 Stick of Unsalted Butter 1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour 1 (32 oz) Container of Chicken Stock 1 Teaspoon of Cajun or Creole Seasoning 1/2 Cup of Water Rice or Mashed Potatoes to serve with Start out by getting a pan heated over med/high heat. Generously season each side of the pork chops with the fresh salt and pepper. Add vegetable oil to the hot pan. Brown each side of your pork chops by searing them for 4-5 minutes on each side. When you remove them, you want to put them on a hard plate or bowl. This will help salvage any excesliquid that comes off of them. While your porkchops are searing, go ahead and chop your onions. Once you have browned all of your pork chops, remove, and add your chopped onions to the pan. Feel free to add a small amount of cold water to help break up the drippings on the bottom of the pan. Sauté the onions for 5 minuets, then add the 1/2 Stick of Butter. Melt the butter completely, then add the flour. When your onions are soft and brown, add a small amount of the chicken stock and mix well. You want to get a creamy consistency. Add most or all of the remaining chicken stock to the pan. Next layer your pork chops over the onion gravy. Be sure to pour any of the excess liquid from the plate or bowl the pork chops were in, back into the pan. Add the Cajun/Creole Seasoning. Add the 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil, cover, then lower to a simmering heat. Cook for 2 hours. Feel free to stir every 15 minutes. For a thicker gravy, leave uncovered the last 30 minutes. Serve with either rice or mashed potatoes. Enjoy! 😊
You so good at drawing us into your kitchen. I found myself blowing the food on your fork . . .i love your directions. . .not a lot of unnecessary chit chat. . .just enough. AND THE SOUND EFFECTS CRACK ME UP! Love your recipes. . .basic and Deeelicious!!
Smothered anything is good but Pork Chops reign supreme. Thanks for posting this more traditional Cajun method. Merry Christmas to you and yours and a Happy and Blessed New Year.
Make this all the time!! It’s so darn good!! The recipe requires few ingredients but that flavor is on point!! Comfort food at its best!! Thanks for sharing!!
I do as well I make it for my husband he works out of town 2 weeks at a time I make his meals and freeze them for him to take and sometimes he shares with the other guys he works with and they all loved these pork chops and we recommended watching the cajun ninja so now the guys in the oilfields are fans of his as well..I have gotten him a lot of followers from a lot of people..
Soooo grateful for this recipe!! I’m a beginner when it comes to home cooked meals (I’m from port Arthur and my dad spoiled us with his cooking). I’ve been cooking smothered pork chops and could not master getting my gravy thick and dark until this video!!!!!!!!!! Lord this was a blessing on this Easter Sunday 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I need your cook book!!!!!!!
My husband made this for the family the other day and it is hands-down our favorite meal now.❤ and it was even better the next day - the rice soaked up all the gravy goodness! We are making this a regular part of our dinner rotation! Thank you sir!
Came out so good! Thank you so much. This is the first time I was ever able to make tender pork chops. Such a familiar dish, but hadn't had it in years. I used to have this as a kid, but didn't know how to make it. Your receipt is better than my mom's cooking. The only thing I did different was, instead of corn, I added steamed green beans that I had marinated in roasted garlic into the gravy the last 15-20 minutes.
One of my favorite meals too!!! I am a Mashed potatoes kinda guy though instead of rice.Them porkchops was as tender as they can get ooh yea!!! I like to do chicken the same way and put a 1/2 package of brown gravy mix with it just to make the gravy more brown! Watching you make that made me want some smothered porkchops so guess whats gone be for dinner tomorrow!!!!
Oh yes! I *will* be making this *for sure!* I've been with my husband since 1983 (although I actually met him for the first time in 1980). He has always had a beard.
I love your channel. I am a Terrebonne parish native and the only reason I know how to cook is because of you. Can’t wait to get my hands on that cook book! Thank you!
Made this tonight while watching this and every step looked like yours and the taste at the end was priceless on my face knowing I just made this bad ass dish on my own with your help. Mouth watering delicious. Thank you
Omg Thank You so much my Mom has been gone since 2013 and I couldn't get my smothered chop to taste like her but you have taught me THANK YOU !!!!!!! I'm in here crying now tears of joy thinking about my Mom
Before I even really knew how to cook I used to watch Justin Wilson cooking show every Saturday. I used to wish I was in his Studio to sample his dishes love me some Cajun food
There are a lot of imitation Cajun cooks on TH-cam, and I’m sure their food is fine. But you sir are the real deal. This is just like all the good kitchens and plate lunch places around the area.
I added about ten cloves of garlic to the recipe but have left it otherwise the same. Just set the timer for two hours and it's already smelling awesome in here. Rice and gravy is gonna get us Cajuns through these tough times as it has plenty of times before. Thank you for your videos, podna! Sometimes I forget where I came from.
I made this last night, but I used Number Seven Steaks instead of pork chops. Talk about amazing!! 😋 Thank you so much for sharing your recipe, Cajun Ninja! It reminded me of my Mamere's cooking back when I was a kid! 💜
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m from Wisconsin and my (Southern) husband asked me what was in the gravy because he liked it so much. I used thicker pork chops and cooked it longer and it came out perfectly.
Those pork chops are looking way tender and the tenderness going on and all the flavorings oh my goodness 😋. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe here.
Been working out of town... and headed home to south La. today. I was trying to figure out what to cook tonight and I believe you have done made up my mind. This is pretty much same recipe I wing it with every time. :). Newest sub!
Wife and I watched this video the other day. She had not had this since she was a kid. I’d never had it. Made it for dinner tonight and WOW was it good! Thank you for sharing
Made this with turkey chops a few times. First time made it exact as the video. Second time, made it different. Used all purpose seasoning from my Carib place, smoked paprika, onion and garlic powder, and ms dash in addition to salt and pepper to the meat. I soaked turkey chops in lemon and apple cider vinegar before cooking for as long as u can. Always brine turkey with ap vinegar. Soak in plain water with lemons after. I hate the taste of gamely meat and fishy fish. I soak all fish and meat in apv and/or salt and/or lemon (certain fish, turkey and chicken only - I don’t eat pork or beef or lamb or goat etc) Added walker wood hot jerk paste to the rue with the same as the video. Half cover for 30-45 mins. Used a bottle water added Goya powder chicken pack instead of chicken stock. We loved it.
Jason, I'm a pretty good cook myself, being from Opelousas and growing up in Baton Rouge. I'm always looking for different variations of my own dishes. I tried this one and man, talk about tasty for such a simple dish to make. Great recipe and Lord, the gravy!!! Only thing I changed is one clove of fresh garlic. Keep up the good work. Very much enjoying your channel.

Curious if you have any conversion recipes for cooking times converting these stove top recipes of yours to a Ninja Foodi or Insta Pot version. Thanks in advance.
SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS & ONION GRAVY
6-8 Bone-in Pork Chops
Kosher Salt for flavor
Coarse Black Pepper for flavor
1 Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil
2 Onions
1/2 Stick of Unsalted Butter
1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour
1 (32 oz) Container of Chicken Stock
1 Teaspoon of Cajun or Creole Seasoning
1/2 Cup of Water
Rice or Mashed Potatoes to serve with
Start out by getting a pan heated over med/high heat.
Enjoy! 😊

I'm old school, was raise to use flour for gravy, I have never used corn starch!! The pork chops look yummy!! LOL.... TFS
delores mendoza although, corn starch is corn flour. 😏
There are uses for both flour and corn starch gravy. It has to do with the consistency and flavor you're looking for.
The Cajun Ninja 👨🍳 I don’t know if you have one or not but (if not) you seriously need a cook book 💯this is my favorite recipe by far I ❤️ this.
