    I Was Changing Out An Old Hot Water Heater So I Turned The Breaker Off! I Tested One Side Of the 220 Line And Read Zero! Little Did I Know That One Side Of The Breaker Had Fused Together! So When I Went To Cut The Old Wiring Off It Blew A Hole In My Lineman Pliers Or Side Cutters! I Learned Not To Skip The Step Of Checking Both Legs For Voltage!

    Amazing how wires over time short out against each other. I guess years of vibration causes that. Nine out of ten times the connectors are looking rough, so when you change them, you get a better connection, plus it looks better. I'm glad those paper wasps weren't at home either, try to remember for when you go back. Nice job, hope the ankle is ok, doesn't happen often, but it is startling to bust your butt.

    True Story: When I was younger (back in the mid-90s) and living in an apartment, I discovered my thermostat was broken during a cold winter. Rather than bother with maintenance, I took it apart and shorted out what I thought would work. The furnace came on, and then I left for the evening. Maybe 4+ hours later, I come back and open the apartment door. It felt like a wave of hot, humid air washed over me! I panicked and switched the furnace off, but it still kept running! I then took out the piece of aluminum foil I used to get the furnace working from the thermostat, but it still kept running! I then started looking around the unit for the breaker box when, thankfully, it shut off. I looked at the thermostat. Its needle was pegged at 95 degrees and quivering! It was probably well over 100 degrees in the place. I cracked a window in the apartment and went to bed. Later, I called maintenance to replace the thermostat, but luckily, back then, the gas was being covered by the complex.😮‍💨

    Not to make light of it but honestly at least their unit is able to heat their place my parents got a brand new Lennox heat pump package unit to replace their 20+ year old trane unit that broke last summer because the parts to fix the Trane were going to take months to get but this Lennox unit can't keep up it takes almost all day to heat the house from 65 to 72 on full 2 stage heating and in the summer it can't even keep the house cool on full 2 stage cooling

    yet there is an indoor air handler. Never seen that before.

    • @musicnerd72
      @musicnerd72 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, it's called a package unit. They're basically a furnace and air conditioner in one unit. The heat source can be electric, heat pump, or gas fired. Yes, they're used on rooftops of commercial buildings, but smaller units are used for residential as well.

    • @georgebrabec1749
      @georgebrabec1749 ปีที่แล้ว

      @musicnerd72 - yes the outdoor system is a package unit, also known as a roof top unit. So why is there another air handler inside of the closet ? Normally the ( package) unit is ducted inside the building or house, if you prefer, with the ductwork split to the different rooms supplying heated or cooled air. The return is ducted to a air return, filter grill. But in this case the filter grill leads to a closet upflow air handler, with the plenum leading to attic ductwork.
