- In this video, i teardown another 5HP24 out of 01 BMW, has the typical problem of slipping forward. To prevent this from happening again, as part of the overhaul the lower front section of the valvebody is changed. Drum blows due to pressure spikes. Thanks for watching, off to the shop
"Every Zf I like to film." Music to my ears Gary, music to my ears. I just wished you filmed every assembly😉
Hi Joel, when i have more time i certainly will, right now running about 2 weeks behind, cars all over the place
@@GaryFerraro thank you inflation! Say hello to everyone doing rebuilds from trusted shops.... like AAA-1 Transmission
Another great video,
Thank you Gary
Hello,
I have a 5hp24 that I just rebuilt due to the A drum failure. I just installed it in the car and for some reason when I put it in Reverse, it drives forward as if I’m in drive. I did use solenoids from a core transmission as I figured they’d be in better shape and my issue might be in that area. It doesn’t make any crazy noises or bangs/jerks.
Thanks in advance, your videos helped a bunch
are you sure you hooked up the manual valve to the linkage
goodjob
Your job but I'm just curious as to why you would choose to work in a puddle of oil spreading all over your workbench rather than squeegee it a couple of times during the procedure.
Thks mister
Very good
Gary, I have a 1997 740i and it drives great but it keeps going into trans failsafe .
what are the codes?
Hi Garry, I am not sure if you remember me but we spoke in depth about my zf5hp24 nightmares. I am wondering if I may pick your brain regarding current issues I am having with a professionally rebuilt box now giving me problems?
sure,
I had to go with another box in the end because I was sick of pulling that one apart. I got a box that was professionally rebuilt and put in a car that I bought as a donor car. The box was don in 2020 and had done hardly any milage as the car it was put in blew a head gasket not long after and thats how I come to buy it as a donor car (2002 BMW x5 (e53) 4.6is.
These have a larger torque converter for stall speeds than the standard 4.4 litre ones and the bell housing has cutouts in the fins to accomodate.
I put the box into my car (another e53 4.6is) and I noticed I was getting a slight squeaking sound between 2-3 and 3-4th gear. Sometimes the car would stick in those gears also and I would notice due to the car revving up to around 4-5000rpm.
If I used the steptronic manual shifting then this would not occur.
After driving the box in a bit I noticed it stopped sticking in auto but the squeak was still present.
I got about 750kms out of it driving it rather cautiously and then the dreaded trans failsafe came up on the dash. I stoped at my destination and switched the car off but when I returned the car would not even start.
I had my inpa/IstaD software brought out to me and I reset the transmission adaptions and cleared any codes present. The car then started.
Within less than 1km the trans failsafe came back and the car is held in third gear.
I coasted the car home where it still sits in fear of doing any more damage.
The codes I recieved were as follows..
1.0000C3-EGS: Transmission switch.
2.00008D-IKE: EGS Signal line disturbed.
3.00000F-EGS: pressure actuator EDS, Total current.
4.000011-EGS: Solenoid valve 2.
5.000030-EGS: Converter lockup clutch, excessive slip.
6.000021-EGS: Speed sensor, turbine.
Although the code numbers are BMW specific, I presume you will have a bit more knowledge than me on the subject of the codes.
It does hold relevance I am sure that the battery may not have been fully charged as I know these cars are temperamental when it comes to power supply.
I appreciate any help in this matter as I am pretty lost at this point and thousands of dollars deep into the transmission issues on this car.@@GaryFerraro
Please advise
This is the comment regarding the zf box issues
ok, if you clear the codes , what comes back? The noise on the shift may be a clutch squawk, Adding a tube of instant shudder fix or a posi additive will usually fix the noise on the shift@@user-me9vg3nn8k
Hello Mr. I need to bury it. Only on the big and long ascent does not take me. Everything else is normal and Ace can be blamed?
Sir make a video on how to check 6l80e techm
👍👍👍👍
Sir i need your help do you know code push belt for mazda demio 2008? Cvt transmision.. Thx
Probably for what reason?
Mr. Gary I have a question for you, I hope you can help me or give me a clue.
I have a CD4E ford escape 2.3. 2005.
When I put into drive or reverse it always makes a small hit. Not 1 and 2.
then upshift and downsift without problems.
where would the problem be?
Thank you.
so only engagements into drive or reverse?
me and my dad used your videos to rebuild a 545 rfe in a ram 1500, we completed the rebuild and started driving it. But we are going into limp mode after 2nd gear and are getting a p0988 code we also replaced the transmission fluid pressure sensor and no fix. Do you know of any solutions that could possibly fix this?
Do you have a scan tool that shows live data, you need to see if that pressure switch is changing state
We don’t have one of those, we have tried 2 different sensors and it is getting 5 volts to the sensor. It will drive in 1st without it going into limp mode, but as soon as I shift it into 2nd or 3rd it goes right into limp mode. Just wondering if this might be a valve body issue or solenoid pack.
@@levimartin7380 That switch should change state when it goes to 2nd, if it's not thats why it's going to limp mode, may want to check the wire
It only stops at 2 steps when climbing a large and long ascent
Hi Gary,

I went thru 2 2001 Audi A6 4.2l both had no forward.
A Drum No good?
@@GaryFerraro unfortunately I didnt have any shops near me that could diagnose them, most said they don't work on Audi trans.
@@bullet5760 Where are you located?
@@GaryFerraro at the time I was in Nc, I'm in pa now but I no longer have those two anymore since I couldn't get them going again.
@@bullet5760 ok
There's no way I'd be brave enough to smack those ears with a steel hammer. lol..
I'd break the case everytime.
It's pretty beefy bellhousing
I’m having a hard time getting my center support out. It moves a few cm at most. I’ve disconnected everything, I can’t figure out what I need to do next. Any tips?
just have to work it back and fourth and it should come out, try to keep it straight, sometimes they are hard to come out
@@GaryFerraro I have tried tapping it like you did, no luck. It’s very stuck in there. I’m wondering if something small is lodged, it won’t even wiggle.
The snap ring is out correct?@@AndrewJaws
@@GaryFerraro yes, my mechanic just figured it out for me. I hadn’t taken the rubber sleeves out and that was causing the drum to stay in the housing. Everything is out of the case now.
ok, good deal, sorry, i figured they were already out. @@AndrewJaws
If you can help me. thank you very much
And then I turn off the engine for two minutes and rest for two minutes and ideally everything is back.
