As a German I visited the UK often during the 80s as a teenager and 90s as a student, and I was VERY afraid at first, because of the war. But the reality I experienced literally everywhere: I was warmly welcomed and the British were the friendliest people I had EVER met. Also, learning about England: it is a very integral part of the English culture especially NOT to say strongly negative things. Germans a, depending on the state, more outspoken. But to make an English say to "hate" something is a VERY difficult task. And often times when I was lost there, English, Scots and Welsh went to GREAT length to help me.
I recall visiting Scotland around 1989, and I ended up accidentally around 80 km away from the city I wanted to be. It was early in the morning, I was asking for directions to this city, totally oblivious to the distance, and he out of the blue just DROVE me there.
I don't know Britain today. But the British of the days, man you wouldn't find kinder and more polite people in the world.
    Unless they are drunk. lol
PS: As a older person: Americans haven't always been SO strongly and aggressively opinionated. It just has changed drastically the last 10-15 years. I remember are time when Americans were largely not like this. Today Americans a deeply divided way beyond any point of what seems mentally healthy.

I don't hate England! But after that I decided not to travel there anymore :)

It's so much easier and cheaper for Brits to travel to cool countries! Here in the US we can drive to Canada or Mexico and that's it. (Well yes, you can drive through Mexico and on South, but that's a major expedition.) In London you can get on a train, go through the Chunnel, and all of Europe and beyond are easily accessible by train. You can do it just on a whim! I’m both, and have lived in both. The non-NI Brits don’t hate Ireland - they don’t respect us enough to hate us. They also, like a lot of Americans, don’t know enough about other places, or when they do it is through the colonial lense, so what they do think they know is rarely an educated view. A lot of NI Brits DO hate Ireland, despite THEM being the colonisers. And Ireland’s attitude towards the UK has generally mellowed, although we do of course know far more about the horrors visited upon us by the UK than they seem to themselves, and as a result have a…let’s call it a healthy scepticism, towards the UK at times. Since Brexit though, relations have declined. During Covid, Ireland was “performing” way better than the UK in the metrics politicians were bothered about, but the Brits remained arrogant about the Irish and figured we couldn’t possibly be able to achieve better outcomes in ANYthing. But we do, pretty consistently. And we compare ourselves to the UK ALL.THE.DAMN.TIME. Whereas, for the most part? They couldn’t care less, forget Ireland exists, and often 😂Ben seem to think Ireland is a part of the UK 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think that maybe because here in the UK we are a country made up of constituent countries that we have a mentality where we differentiate between a country, a people, and a government. If you asked Brits what governments or political parties around the world we hate then I think you'd get a flood of answers. We don't hate countries or their people as much as other countries seem to do, again maybe that comes back to recognising when our own government doesn't represent us and the fact that we wouldn't want the rest of the world to judge us by the actions of our politicians.
Case in point, I hate Putin, and I hate the political power structure in Russia right now for what it is doing, but I don't hate Russia as a country or the Russian people and I know there will be a lot of Russians who don't agree with him or what he's doing.

Most of us don't "hate" the USA - it's a strong word. We're more considered than that, but I think many of us do get frustrated with the States.
To me, the USA comes across like an adolescent - strong, stubborn, loud and proud - and with little interest in those that are older and possibly wiser, convinced it's unsubtle ideas are the perfect solution to everything. I find the USA equally endearing, annoying and (these days) a bit scary.
Do you think of "countries" as the people, or the State? Wherever I go it's the same - loads of lovely, good-hearted people - and a smattering of a*holes. The problem in some countries are their governments policies and overbearing religions - and the effect that may have on the people. Thus, there are some countries I wouldn't choose to visit - not because of the people themselves, but because of the social environment created by those in power. (And i must admit that for the moment, the USA is one of them).

Germany's one of the most beloved countries in Europe, especially inside of the EU, and it always seemed to me they had a very good reputation among the British. A lot of Europeans who are unhappy with their own country say they'd like to move to Germany, probably because of the very good economic situation there. The war is long over, the EU was formed since then, and it's fair to say that only a handful of very old people still dislike Germany around here in Western Europe.

@@petebennett3733 The British Empire is gone and has been for over 50 years. Britains power and influence has dropped dramatically over the last decades. And has dropped even more in the last 5 years after Britain left the EU. And the influence will drop even more in the future as other countries like India, Indonesia, Brasil (just a few examples) will be more important.
That has nothing to do with 'like' or 'dislike'. The UK has also al lot of internal problems, with a system where England basicly rules the other countries of the UK like colonies from Westminster. If England wants to leave te EU, the others are forced to do it.
The UK has left a big mark on the world with it's history. A lot of good in culture, history etc, and a lot of bad like colonism. Most former British Empire nations for example have terrible laws regarding LGBT people, which come from their Britisch based constititution on the moment of independence.

You say most disliked the US, but I think if you did a count most didn't like their own country, England.
America *does* have a nationalistic ego issue. No other country constantly bangs on about being the greatest in the world at everything, and having blind faith that it's true, when it clearly isn't. Now of course not all Americans are like that, but it does come across a lot in the attitudes of some, and in America's massive export; its culture. TV shows often do the flag saluting, US is the best place ever, Americans are the greatest at everything routine, and it just makes other countries wince.
Oh, and like the first guy, and some others, I also don't like England. And I'm born & bred English. I think it's far too right wing, money chasing (without a care for the consequences), Royal or privileged-people worshiping, arrogant and xenophobic. Again, not everyone is like that, obviously, but far too many and apart from a short time post-WW2 when the NHS, Welfare State and Council Estates were formed, it's politics have always massively favoured the wealthy over the poor and needy.

Hate isn’t a word I would use to describe my attitude towards the USA. The most accurate word would be, bemusement. The odd propaganda, e.g “greatest country on the planet”, “the only country with freedom and democracy” etc, the pride in being ignorant about the other countries that share this planet etc etc. And, I’ve had this before, when you confirm some Americans on their falsehoods you’re met with “you’re just jealous of us Americans”. The USA wants to expand and have even more geopolitical influence, yet within the borders of the USA it’s very isolationists and scared of other nations, culture, languages, religions… people.
P.s I went to school in the USA between 94-96, and I also worked their after uni between ‘04 and ‘10 ;so I’m not speaking without experience.

Simple answer: No. Slightly longer form answer is that mostly we think you're cool (in the original sense of being cool) but slightly backwards and stupid. Western Europe is mostly secular and progressive but the gun thing, evangelicalism, the endless flags, racism and "thank you for your service" to the military is weird to most europeans. I can only speak for England but I have an American GF and the relentless "God bless America" shizz is very tiring. You guys are ok, but why do you need to keep flying flags and saying you're amazing? It just smacks of insecurity. I've never met anyone in Europe or anywhere else I've been who think the US is the leader of the free world, either. Kinda arseholes when it comes down to world policing, actually. Your military is actually considered a bit of a joke too. Beyond that, you're pretty safe.

I don‘t think it‘s hate. There’ s just some things going on in the US Europeans don‘t understand, e.g. labelling social stuff as socialism or communism. That american national pride thing is very strange especially for germans, being raised with the historical fact in mind, that there is nothing to be proud of. And I think that many germans are very concerned about the political situation in the US. You want to be the land of the free, but those loud republicans do everything to cut the freedom of e.g. colored people, immigrants, women, homosexuals etc.
The „Handmaid‘s Tale“-vibes from this DeSantis guy are also very disturbing to us.
The direction this could lead to… Germans know. 😢

I know they can't do anything against it, but they don't do anything to reduce the problem of corruption. Those who vote Democrat accept Democrat corruption and fight Republican corruption, and vice versa. Here we vote for a certain party and we are the ones who put the most pressure on that party to do the right thing, to fulfill what it promised. I don't hate the USA, I have visited once in the Eighties, and had the best time of my life.
I was 21 and able to get a beer.
I am from the UK where you could get away with drinking before the legal age of 18 if you were sensible enough to not draw attention to yourself because of stupid behaviour. Technically then you could get away with drinking in a pub if you were ordering a meal and had responsible older folk, like Parents, with you.
The great American dream was something that you wanted to aspire to.
Nowadays the whole thing has shifted because US citizens are not in charge of their Country and the foreign policies of the government are insanely immoral and Reaganomics was where it started to go wrong.
Any American who believes that they are living in a Democracy are mistaken and I will explain that point from here.
Take the examples of, voting in elections and the power of the politicians.
Then marry that point with US Capitalism/Banking and the Military.
Ok I want to begin with political Lobbying.
There are so many Banks investing in politics to further unregulated self interest by the Banks donating vast sums of Dollars that it becomes a point where the banks want a return on their "investment" and influence policy.
The USA votes every four years but the electioneering is a farce. The way the Democrats and Republicans campaign is to divide the nation with shambolic hatred so much so that the more discourse and bile they spread that party spreading the most will win, while the public end up with a mental health emergency leading to hating somebody who's really not done anything wrong to them across the street other than supporting a different preference.
Then once the votes are counted, the power is with the Banks who dictate whatever suits their agenda.
Next up those banks and often assisted by the security agencies and military set their sights on the rest of the world, to enforce whatever they see fit in terms of asset stripping other nations.
The Invasions of countries with oil, like Iraq, Afghanistan and so on.
Installing puppet leaders who are friendly with the US policy makers, sometimes sending in the military to quell opposition from those in the country who are demonised by the US main stream media.
America has problems of it's own with a lack of health care, unemployment, food stamps, education etc but yet the public buy into the propaganda, for example like Venezuela who have the biggest oil reserves in the world, so US Sanctions are imposed on those countries to destabilise their economic system and blame the leaders of those sovereign nations.
China has now done a deal with Venezuela to buy that oil and have a military to keep away any threat to any country
Americans economy is actually insolvent with borrowing at $35 trillion and it is going to be impossible to repay.
But the Banks and Government, double down and won't tell the public the truth.
Europe is another case. It has been very peaceful on the whole since WW2 with exceptions like the former Yugoslavia but mainly harmonious.
Then after failing to get Venezuela's oil because of their weaker financial position as China has become the World economic superpower, the new target of commodities to try and control became the Ukraine.
So using NATO and lies, the US sees 40 percent of the world wheat production as an opportunity to grab, undemocraticly and hold the world to ransom so the Banks in Charge make profit because they are in trouble. They hoard the wealth they can control and charge interest on the money they lend to keep themselves rich. Meanwhile the military send the children off to fight for their interests and many kids don't return alive.
Look how China does business. They don't invade countries and start wars, they have a form of Capitalism that has regulated rules against usury and profiteering to help the citizens have a fair deal. They told America to get out of Afghanistan and now they are buying oil from Afghanistan while America has to sit and wait for permission to act on their next money making enterprise.
It's very unpalatable for the good people of America to understand this concept of the new world order but it only has itself to blame for allowing the Banks Greed to go unchecked.
China and Asia as a whole are the new bosses of International global markets and Russia too.
The non American side of the world, especially China invest in previously third world countries with money, building infrastructure based on financial investment no more so than Africa, with the construction of Roads, Schools, Hospitals, everywhere and all without a shot being fired.
So while America wonders why the World has had enough of their shenanigans, the people are not to blame, it's their financial institutions who have allowed Greed to set up the end of their Empire.
Thanks for reading this, if you have made it to the end of my two pennies worth.
I am tired now and off to bed, I can't be bothered to edit this now for punctuation and spelling mistakes, so forgive me. I might do it tomorrow morning.

I live in the UK and have never been to America, so any views are based mainly on what the media portrays, and therefore may not be accurate.
There seems to be some cultural differences, but American people often seem nice - enthusiastic, warm and supportive of other people, friendly. Maybe some Americans are a little too earnest (we Brits do like a bit of sarcastic banter)....
What is scary is the way America works as a country - the gun lobby wielding a ridiculous amount of power and people dying as a result; religion being used to curb personal freedoms; poor social infrastructure (education, health care, social care). It seems like the kind of place where there is a huge gap between rich and poor, and where one serious health issue could catapult a whole family into poverty. Terrible work-life balance and very poor employment rights. And there's the nationalism that comes across as a little naiive to cynical Brits like me - the way Americans go misty-eyed over the national anthem and the Star Spangled Banner and earnestly believe that the US is the best country on earth. When in reality, the American style of government leaves its citizens short-changed.
It wouldn't be first on my list of places to visit, but I would visit, given the chance. I'd never want to live there, though.

Lol this is a no brainer, when people are angry with their own government they will often answer their own country! Britons are much better world travellers because the are only a hop, skip, and jump from nearly everywhere and travel costs are cheaper.

I think this is completely normal. Typically in such videos you only get to see the selection of those with an extreme opinion. Likewise, those videos which show our youth knowsn nothing. If you do such interviews and ask 100s of people for a whole day, you can cut them in a way they either appear to be all really dumb, all incredibly intelligent, disliking America only, or whatever. It does not show us distributions, it shows us selected examples.

The problem with Simplified - American - English is that it's TOO simplified - dumb or smart, hate or love...there's no way to express oneself properly. As many posters have said - "Hate" is just not the right word - only small children ever say they "hate" people. As they grow and their language skills improve they leave the word back in their childhood. And save it for things like avocados or travelling in an aeroplane. Not thousands of people you know nothing about. Even the word "dislike" is used carefully and in non-confrontational ways. And how on earth could anyone "hate" a country they've never even set foot in? If the question were, "Of all the countries you've visited, which did you enjoy the least?" a) It ensures you know what you're talking about because it's somewhere you've experienced b) You can have enjoyed them all, but one a tad less. So you still enjoyed it.
And, as others have said..."Hate" what? The climate? The infrastructure? The food? The politics? The religion? The manners? The monetary system? The traffic rules? The millions of people you've never met? Words don't seem to have much value in AE. But if someone is going around in the UK asking people who they "hate" the word IS taken seriously and, as you can see, most people are taken aback at the question, and don't really understand it's purpose.

I live in Cyprus and I love it here. She was probably one of those ex-pats that wanted it to be like a little Britain and get all her British things here. And constantly sit in bars all day, dripping on about the Cypriots. Glad she’s no longer here.

Tyler the war in england was very very close to home. It was britian vs the entirity of europe at one point for nearly 2 years of WW2, attacks and bombings were daily occurences, the children had to be sent away to the countryside and every aspect of life was halted. Hitler had taken over all of europe and the uk was the last step, hitler thought the war would be over in a matter of days or weeks.

Well, I think they are thinking of countries they have actually visited...and thereby trying to give a fair answer; whereas you are thinking of what their opinion might be according to the politics of other countries, which would be a differently worded question, I suppose... 🤔 I love your reactions, whatever the topic, which must be down to your personality... 💙

I have 2 friends that live in Wisconsin and they are opposite to the american stereotype. Quiet, respectful and actually listen. The man who likes Holland sounded cockney or under the influence. The scottish lady who doesnt like england made me laugh, its much colder in scotland. 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

Why should anyone not like a country? It is the people, the culture that can be off-putting, and then surely that would be a small number based on our own experience - we cannot have met everyone!
I'm English and I have to say Brexit broke me. This country will never be the same. :(

Ireland (Republic and NI) and England have a long and difficult history. We both have reasons to hate each other. There have been a lot of deaths on both sides.
Scotland and England dont hate each other. Scotland wants to leave England not because of the English but because of the London-centric government and because theyre not a fan of the popular vote system we have in place across the UK which benefits English territories because they have a larger % of population.
I think Scots and Irish are pretty tight with each other. Both scorn the English.
The Welsh are pretty much forgotten by everybody and theyre resentful of it. Theyre very much overlooked by the rest of Britannia.
With NI and Republic of. They view each other as brothers and want to he a unified country again, but they still disagree on the topic of the UK. Though I feel like the government is doing their best to push NI away for some stupid reason.
Northern England and Southern England have a rivalry again because of the London centric government and also because of a surprisingly large culture difference.
Basically to summarise. Everyone hates the government. The government likes the South of England. All britannic countries have rough relations with the English. And the English actually like all of these other countries lol.
But overall we're looking past our historic problems over time so its all love.

In the Netherlands it seems used to be Germany because of the war and football. My generation grew up with grandparents who lived through the war, although I have German relatives. My kids don't have that anymore. Back then you couldn't imagine stores selling shirts from German clubs, we didn't even call Germans German but a Mof just as the Brits called them Krauts.
