My grandmother died from Alzheimer’s and donated her body to science so I’m always hoping they learn more about it because the only way to definitively diagnose Alzheimer’s disease is through autopsy. We can’t treat or cure what we don’t understand. I just hope I never have to go through that or put my family through it because it’s so hard loving someone with Alzheimer’s. They go from total care to total independence back to total care again and it’s hard to see.
Thanks Vicki! I’m sending this to my sister in law. We have a family member who is in her early 70s who was deemed to not have Alzheimer’s but can no longer follow recipes, can’t read books anymore, and forgets or misremembers dates, times, etc and it’s definitely getting worse. She recently asked me how my grandparents were doing and they’ve been dead for almost 15 years (and she absolutely used to know this). I don’t have direct influence over her care, but am trying to be as educated as possible to support my sister in law.
@RobinsonKris we had the same thing happen with my mother-in-law and, she, too does not have Alzheimer's Disease. Unfortunately so many medical conditions have similar symptoms. MIL has White Matter Disease, which has similar symptoms. And they suspected FIL had Parkinsons-related Dementia, but his health was rapidly declining so we opted to stop seeking a diagnosis, and just love him til the end. In my 'faceless' phase, I created an animated video about our journey to get MIL diagnosed, and I included a chart of the conditions and how they have similar symptoms. It might also help. th-cam.com/video/u3xd37fcTAU/w-d-xo.html
This is a great overview, Vicki. We had no idea about any of this when my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 58. This was some years ago and I am so glad that more information is now available and that you are shining light on these issues.
This video is great, Vicki! Just enough information to point us in the right direction without overwhelming us with details. Looking forward to the expanded videos for each topic.
Thanks for this. My husband has frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and his first and only symptom was aphasia -- the inability to find words and then speak them. His memory is unaffected, and in fact, is better than mine, still to this day. People don't understand the incredible complexity of the brain and the ways that things can go wrong.
Thank you for watching and for sharing your experience. I have learned so much on our quest to get MIL diagnosed. Her original doctor wouldn't do anything to help us get past his non-diagnosis of "dementia" and just put her in a home. 3 doctors, and months later, she was finally diagnosed with White Matter Disease.
@@AgingOnYourTerms Anytime! Honestly, I'm learning so much from you. I want to summarize all your teachings to make a video on my French channel to educate the African diaspora. So much value, Vicki. Thank you.
Can you I knew a video between Alzheimer's and Lou? Garrix, we were never sure which one my mom had, or if it's something entirely different. She ended up having water on the brain, which it's pretty much killed off her frontal lobe in about 6 years, she started it's changing and having a hard time doing Remembering numbers, she always knew us, but her body pretty much just slowly shut down to the point where you can speak or walk and that type of stuff.
I'm so sorry your Mom had to endure that. 😢 Lou Gehrig's (ALS) disease is different from Alzheimer’s in the reason you pointed out, in that it doesn’t impact memory, but does impact physical functions. Which is pretty much all I know. But here's a good video on ALS and similar conditions. th-cam.com/video/pks7i6FKh9U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=du-Skf0tHHO7sNK5

Now that’s what I call information 😊. You are really teaching me things I don’t know
@@kimberlygibson3 Thank you for watching and letting me know it helped you understand the difference. 🤗

Thank you for watching! 💕 It was very disheartening when their original doctor just wrote them off. So, I'm sharing what we learned.

Thanks for providing this information, Vicki. We are dealing with these symptoms, and this information helps a bunch.
Thank you for watching 💕. There is so much overlap between them, so I'm m glad it was helpful .
What causes dementia? You answered it as I was typing
