I am a software developer and engineer. Everything before 1.5 years ago was a prototype. The reason they had an 8 year prototype? They lacked the technical professionals to address the games core technology issues until 1.5 years ago. It's real pain to refactor the entire codebase and start over, BUT to make the game really what it 'should be' technology wise it had to be done. I am happy this has a chance to be a true Everquest 3. They have the CHANCE to make a great game now that their technology is on track, which they didn't have before. For those of you who wanted this on a timeline, your pain has only just begun. This game will probably not launch until early 2025 and that is optimistic. maybe Christmas 2025.
Thank you for the stream and VoD Therek. Serious question; how does the game *feel* playing it, for all of us that can only watch? Does it feel like it's on the right track?
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it feels good to play. It really shines when you have a group and you are working as a team. Old school MMO vibes of being a part of something bigger than yourself is perhaps the best way to describe it. As or being on the right track, I will say that I see what VR wants to build and I think they are trying to accomplish that vision. There is a ton of work yet to be done, and it would be disingenuous to say it is not an intimidating aspect. As we discussed during the stream with Cohh, if they can expedite the world building and content within the world, I think its on the right track. ~Therek
Yeah I would too. Honestly want some animation work thats about it. I'll be in First Person mode so any work done to make that more immersive would be cool. Maybe a first person only server.
Enjoyed the stream. The discussion about why the game is taking so long neglected to mention the utter misrepresentation by VR at various times, and in part explains why so many people are peeved with VR.
Hiya, can you list what specs your machine got that you are playing on. Then I know what I need to attain the same performance you got. Thank you in advance.
Having actually played the game, I can tell you its not underwhelming. In the spirit ruins, we were constantly dealing with adds and trying to get things under control was challenging. I’ve played many MMOs where combat is underwhelming AF, and this wasn’t it.
@@StaticGroupLive an exp in a MMO is not limited to the complexity of the combat as far as CC/DPS/etc it's about a visual/audio display that creates a sense of visceral power. Watching combat in that game is at best mundane. at 1:00:00 tell me that combat looks engaging...
Hang in there. The gameplay is fun and engaging. I believe that when they open this up to more testers (Alpha, Beta) it will be very reassuring to everyone. :)
Game looks like crap, plays like crap, and development is painfully slow. Before the copium addicts chime in: Yes, I know that this is a pre-alpha but it is a pre-alpha that has been in development for almost a decade. I want a EQ successor just as bad as anyone else but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore just how poorly the dev team is performing.
I agree. When I first heard of pantheon it got me excited to play so to help with the wait I started playing EQ TLP's in 2017. Everyone was talking about how excited they were for a game called Pantheon that is supposed to be EQ successor. Well its been 6 more years...Not looking good.
None of the targeted demographic of players give a shit about it "being out of date". What does that even mean? I bet this game will make it to beta before AoC will.
I was watching some retro EQ content and thought about this game. I had no idea it was still in pre-alpha. That’s insane. This game had hype 5-7 years ago but it took way too long and I don’t think enough people will care if it ever releases.
@@georgen5882 I think plenty enough people will care enough for them to continue to keep the game going for quite a long time. Able to get hundreds of people to pay more than 750-10,000 each just to be in a pre-alpha tells a lot. Even charging 100 bucks to get into beta, I bet there will be 5000+ people in beta (or, let's just say thousands). As long as the game continues to get fine tuned, and alpha and beta get decent press, I think it will be fine.
