What a lovely gracious artist. Thank you for your wisdom and joy. Found you today and I’m excited! I’m a senior so I have lots of silence to fill with creativity and prayer!
Wow Gwen Thank you for such sound advise. Yes we do forget to stand back and look again at the painting and listen to what it is telling us and that voice within, which so brings us to see with a new eye, which way to go. Bless you for bringing this up again❤❤
You are such a joy Gwen! I’ve just come across you on TH-cam and can’t wait to watch part 3. Love what you said at the end about getting rid of all those thoughts to help to see what your painting needs next. I’ll remember that ❤
Thank you. I just started trying abstract about 10 months ago. Im still plugging away at it and think im just finding my style. I've already started buying oils, but havent attempted them yet, as I've invested too much money in acrylics. Im glad i found you today. I love your style.
Thank you Gwen! I’ve just started painting again and love doing abstract but always struggle with getting an idea going or a solid composition. I loved the way you marked the canvas and layered down your intent in black charcoal first. I’m going to do that now with the white canvas behind me! Thank you for the great tips and I’m definitely a new subscriber. Take care!
I've been watching tons of videos on TH-cam about abstract painting and this is the first time I leave a comment. I love you, I love the way you approach painting, the way you think about art and what you do on the canvas. You are very inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing who you are and what you do.
I love your words and the way you construct the painting. Thank you. I hope you will help me liberate myself from the cage of realism in my artistic style.
hello gwen! i'm self-taught, a retired teacher, held to ransom by serious illness. love your ways..i just subscribed so i'll be lurking! nice art, my friend! michele south australia
I love abstracts and you actually paint them! I’m so tired of only finding these pour paintings or the giant squeegee! Thank you. And oil! Allof this was so instructive
This was wonderful. There are times when I just want to sit down and have a discussion like this. You not only answered some questions I've had but made me feel more comfortable with the process of painting. Thank you. 😊
Gwen, many thanks! I grew up right by Taos, and I miss it. Thank you for sharing your expertise, it's just what I needed as I just started a more abstract creative journey 💖
Welcome! Thank you for subscribing. My latest video speaks to a break that I am taking from TH-cam because I am moving. Please feel free to browse any of my content, you might find some of them helpful. I'll also be releasing a series on Artist Confidence for Free (previously it was a paid course that I offered). Regardless, I am so happy for you to join me. Hugs, Gwen
I have just found you … you speak to me … I think I love you … the way you teach … and I’ve only been here a few minutes … wish I’d found you years ago. Thank you for your inspiring words.
Hi Gwen! Discovered you while I was on vacation and didn't have any painting supplies. I decided to watch videos I had been meaning to watch earlier, and latched onto you.. I love your style, your approach, and the inspirational and spiritual content that you share with us. You have lifted me out of a dull period. Can't wait to go home and paint again. Thank you!
Carolle....you can do it...go into your studio or wherever you create and consider it a "Trash can painting day"....that way you won't be blocked...try it ....it's fun.
Gwen, great to find you! Love this and you sharing on this channel. My mom was Haroldine. Didn’t realize you work and love oil. Might have to investigate that medium!!! Great to see your beautiful self and high energy ❤️
Thank you for your inspirational and insightful videos. After decades of doing photography and Photoshop, I wanted to explore other creative media during the pandemic. Your channel and your enthusiasm are welcome companions in my new endeavours.
Thanks for your Videos.interesting, Deom preacatical Creative painting with Design.Vizlition, Experience Ida including Vizlisation.wow' Texture wenderfully nicely Created.❤🎉😮😊
This is the first time I've ever seen you paint. I truly love your style. My hope is to be able to paint like this. Silence is golden. I don't know how to catch you when you finish this painting. Thank you for your knowledge.
There is so much energy in you painting. I enjoy watching the videos, and I always learn quite a bit each time, thank you for making all this available. Regards from Iceland
I love what you do, and your message. My work is very much like yours but at the moment I am STUCK on a piece and it’s making me crazy. You’ve given me direction. Starting a different mindset tomorrow!!! Thank you.
Gwen wot a delight u r! Here in uk on BBC radio there used to be something early am called 'Thought for the day.' The end of your demo where u talked about peace and silence and that is when it happens? Well that is my thought for today. Seriously I love your laid back and yet constructive approach to painting. And also your warm approach to presenting. Best R
thks for that. I dont have radio 4 on any more. I listen to music these days and look at news on pc. But like the thought that thought for day is still on the go! Best R
Gwen, so excited to have found you. You speak my creative language & you put my thoughts in ti words😃. Even your choice of lively colors, looks like my palette. Thank you for emphasizing “having a plan” I tend to ponder over what I’m going to do for a bit before I start them. Then I hear from others, that’s not intuitive, that’s not expressing yourself in the moment. But as you said, it changes as it goes. But I am trying to keep your words in my head, “be silent & let the creativity speak!” Thank you so much! Are you using cold wax when you are painting this? I found your videos because I discovered CWM & want to learn more.
Thank you for your lovely comment....it means a lot to me that you took the time to say this....now for your question.....No I was not using cold wax in this painting....although I may have at the end.....it has been a while since I did the painting. I was just using the squeege that I use in cold wax.
Gwen, you are an amazing person, teacher and artist. I love you and what you do. You are so full of love and enthusiasm! Such a generous person! the black oil you used, asphaltum, is there an acrylic that is similar to this one? It's so beautiful! So enthralled with your talent! Blessings!
Hi Gwen, I have recently discovered you as the gentleman below and I am truly enjoying your way of doing abstracts but unfortunately I paint in acrylics which the effects are probably somewhat different. I loved your idea of silence for creativity. Thanks so much.
Love your process! Btw, is there someone else working in the studio with you while you’re filming? I keep hearing sounds that are obviously not coming from you…just askin‘..😊
Hi Gwen I really like your approach Your emphasis on openness and fun is most encouraging! Thank you! What dark color did you use for the version of black? It was somewhat transparent ? Thanks again, Diane in SF
Kelley.....I do all the filming and editing myself.....then I send it to A Solid Site in Canada to Aaron and he does his magic with the beginning and ending. It is a lot of work but I love doing it and I love how it is helping other artists.
I appreciate your sharing your process. We all work differently but it somehow gave me permission to just go for it. QUESTION: How long will you wait between painting sessions to let it dry?
Gwen I loved your message in this so much!! I will often ask my paintings what they need/want next. I’m never led astray when I listen in silence to what my creations are telling me. They are indeed born.
Just found you today and I’m loving your spirit! Looking forward to watching more of you! Thank you
Thank you for acknowledging "the gap." That's where it's at! So difficult for me to get there. Once been there, one knows it's real. Thank you.

You are amazing!
Wow, thank you!
Hi Gwen, I have recently discovered you as the gentleman below and I am truly enjoying your way of doing abstracts but unfortunately I paint in acrylics which the effects are probably somewhat different. I loved your idea of silence for creativity. Thanks so much.
I also use acrylics so you can do the same thing as I do with acrylics...
Just discovered your channel. Thanks for such great videos! Very inspiring to me.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience 🌸🌸🙏🙏
You are so welcome Shrin Fakour Biniaz
I love it!
Thanks Sonya....
Hi, Gwen! Thank you for “thinking out loud” while you’re painting. Also, I very rarely use red but am going to get out there tomorrow and try it!
Jeannette....you go girl...use that red but it will be hard to do in a seascape so try some flowers or an abstract...
I love your way of explaining
Thanks Deniz...
Ahhhj, i cant wait!
Love your process! Btw, is there someone else working in the studio with you while you’re filming? I keep hearing sounds that are obviously not coming from you…just askin‘..😊
Loved the freedom of your approach. It has inspired me to work on some abstracts. What was the name of the dark colour. It sounded like asphalt?????
Asphaltum.....it is a Gamblin color
@@GwenFoxArtist thank you so much. I am doing some studies and finding them exciting. Now to get that big canvas out and go for it!
Hi. Love your demo. What colour did you use over the orange? Never heard of asbaltham?
Love your approach and the way you talk about the process. May I ask what part of the country you hail from
Betty....I grew up in East Tennessee...
Love this! Are you using oils or acrylics and what brand?❤
Hi Gwen I really like your approach Your emphasis on openness and fun is most encouraging! Thank you! What dark color did you use for the version of black? It was somewhat transparent ? Thanks again, Diane in SF
Did you get a reply?
I just love you, I just found you on UTube. I love the way you paint and teach. Thank you.
Thanks you so much....
Which red do you use, or do you use a combination?
Thank you for sharing your videos.
Gwen your videos are fantastic! Do you have assistants or do you do it all yourself? You rock and your work is amazing!
Kelley.....I do all the filming and editing myself.....then I send it to A Solid Site in Canada to Aaron and he does his magic with the beginning and ending. It is a lot of work but I love doing it and I love how it is helping other artists.
I appreciate your sharing your process. We all work differently but it somehow gave me
permission to just go for it. QUESTION: How long will you wait between painting sessions to let it dry?
Since I paint thinly ....I use oils....I only have to wait a overnight.....but remember I live in New Mexico where it is dry.
Gwen I loved your message in this so much!! I will often ask my paintings what they need/want next. I’m never led astray when I listen in silence to what my creations are telling me. They are indeed born.
You are so right Tracy...paintings love to be born to a loving creator.
Oh my gosh! Learning so much from you! Thank you so much. Are you using any medium woth your underlayers?
Heidi....I am not using any medium with my layers...
thank you so much....... would love to do a workshop with you! I live in Taos. Margret
Margaret....just email me as I would love to meet you...gwen@gwenfox.com
Are the black and greys oil paint?
Do you use any quick drying mediums, when completed with painting, how long until it dries and do you use a varnish? Thanks
Deb...I don't use quick drying mediums with my oils.....they say to wait about three months but I usually do it after a few weeks...
What color red are you using?
Hi Gwen. Do you paint with acrylics as well? That red is just so beautiful! No brush strokes?
Alicia....yes, I paint with acrylics and I love them. I will usually start a painting with acrylic and then finish them with oil.
How can I apply this style to abstract realism of animals?
What is your 2nd colour. As volta.? Don't know it please
Hi Qwen...Did you call that color asvalta or asphalta...I have never heard of that before...
David....it is an oil color by Gamblin ....it is Asphaltum. It is a beautiful transparent rich brown....you will love it!
@@GwenFoxArtist Yup... I have ordered some...Getting it tomorrow...Thanks!
Please tell me what you used to fix the charcoal so it wouldnt spread
Desley...I used a Krylon matte spray...
What is the name of the transparent black that you’re using?
That’s asphalthum black
How do you do your black.? You mentioned a word I couldn’t get
It was probably the paint color....Asphaltum.....it is a wonderful transparent brown.....I love it!!!
Which red is that Gwen?
I’m not familiar with Asvaltum … spelled correctly? A transparent color?
Lynne....it is spelled Asphaltum
