@@luisbretonv yeah shorter than watching it but all the details. Road racing is boring, especially flat days. To be honest, I can’t understand wtf these guys are saying.
I’d be amazed if Dan McLay survives the Vuelta without being disqualified. Within the space of the final kilometre he committed a shoulder charge, an elbow push and then a head charge after the finish line to top it off 😂
Yeah, I saw that headbutt after the finish (not shown in this video) and nobody seems to be making a big deal about it. Usually something like that earns a relegation.
Tell me that you watched Merlier come into to McLay and box McLay between himself and Bennet. McLay held his ground and they drifted wide around the corner which opened the place on Ackermann’s wheel for Bennet.
damn Teunissen came from really far back and still got fourth lmao. also wtf this van poppel guy is actually bonkers tho, what a leadout! him and Laporte are the top leadout guys right now for me.
I am so glad i am here for this weekend. The crowds are absolute nuts. We had dutch people going mad everywhere, lots of irish people aswell. And everyone treated each other nicely. (Except for just behind the finish line, you had literally no breathing space, bu big crowds are great right?) This is cycling at its best.
Wow, you're right about his closing speed in the last 100m. It looked like everyone else was in slow motion. He made Bennett look slow, and that's not easy If TJV had a lead-out man for him, he could do some damage. But I get it, all in for Primoz is a better plan
The splits at the end were caused because of a crash at about 600 meters before the finish. I was actually watching at that exact point and you can see an intermache rider flipping over his bike at 5.36 minutes just at the bottom of the frame.
Yes that was Thijsen the young Belgien sprinter who won a sprint stage in the latest Tour of Poland. Sadly I did play Thijsen as a joker in most of my Vuelta pools. D.Impey was also part of that crash by the way. I hope he will recover because the first stage in the Basque Country is really made for him.
@@andylovell1990 i think the riders that were part of the crash were given the same time. But it is a little weird in the end result because some people who were dropped before the 3k mark finished before the riders im the crash so they have a time penalty and than somebody who finised later doesn't. So for example Thijssen came 177th at 0.00 from the winner and De Marchi came 173rd at 2.22
Would've loved to see the jersey stay on the back of Gesink for another day or two, such the dedicated veteran rider and all around good guy that he is, but nice to see TJV stay in red. Good job Lantern Rouge!
Wouldn't be surprised if JV is trying to let as many dutch riders as possible riding in the red these first few days. Afterall with the time gap on everyone else, why not? Maybe Oomen tomorrow? Could ofcourse also just have been Teunissen taking the opportunity.
I am Dutch and Gesink said if Roglic was safe that is what he cares about mostly. Teunissen could go for his own success if Roglic was safe in the last 2 km said the team to him
100% carapaz did the safest move by getting out of a precarious spot by hitting the gap and finding space, and if you aren’t at the front at 3k you risk gaps in addition to crashes
Quite strange that Teunissen was sprinting when prior to the stage he said that he was not going to sprint and was only here to support Roglic on the flatter stages and very explicitly stated that they shouldn't expect him in red.
And that is not strange at all, if you follow cycling long enough you will know that they will ALWAYS do the opposite of what they are telling in front of a tv camera, or in any press release for that matter. (After the race Teunissen said that this was already discussed at the team meeting before today's stage. He will of course never say such thing before a race does start, therefore the answer he gave the Dutch and Belgian press before the stage. But that's normal, all cyclists do this. So next time you hear a rider say something, do know that he will probably do the opposite. (I'm do only follow cycling since 1974/75 ✌)
why is Morkov not considered the best leadout in the world anymore? I know he's got a down year but both Cav and Jakobsen won a Grand Tour stage with him leading out...
@@kraknoix0075 well as a leadout man if you consider both his sprinters won from behind him, you can hardly consider that a bad year. Compared to the heights he used to go, it is a down year, but most leadouts in the peloton can only dream of having of their sprinters win a stage thanks to them.
