I had to check in my carry-on bag with a diamine 30 ml bottle in it once and when I retrieved my bag after landing, the bottle had leaked even though the cap was screwed on tightly. Luckily I had put it in a zip lock bag. It could be that the bottles don't seal completely under certain air pressure changes.

I just wanted to thank the awesome customer care team at your company there awesome :D thanks Zippy. They responded to me like what most companies would never do that thanks customer care team.
can we get an update to this video? The Kaweco Original and Elegance are my travel work pens. I always have to have a regular inked pen, and a waterproof inked pen. I keep Rohrer & Klinger's waterproof SketchInk in my Elegance; which is basically my permanent marker replacement nowadays.
It's like youtube read my mind and showed me this video. Heading to a work conference this week and am currently considering this as well. So far, i've settled on my fine Metro and leaving my Karas Fountain K at home.
I used to be the same way as you are but I have learned through the years to be simple. I carry a simple dollar binder pad wrapped in a brown paper grocery bag as a book cover , a Field Notes notebook also wrapped in a brown paper grocery bag also used as a book cover and a Parker pen with a Fisher space pen cartridge in it, fine point. I'm not out to impress anyone and I can out perform anyone taking notes on their laptops and cellphone.
In your opinion, which is better for business purposes blue or black ink? Spending several years in the military they were stuck on black ink only for some reason. A few people I've talked to have said that you should really sign or otherwise write on original documents with blue ink but is that really true anymore given the high quality color copiers and scanners we can access in today's world?
William Todd I think you're right: given modern tech, there's no reason we should limit ourselves on color because of document fraud risks-if there ever really was. therefore, the only real question is what the response of the other person will be to the color you choose-if they notice at all-and whether that response matters to you or not. in other words, you could easily experience a case where someone really traditional would look askance at you choosing De Atramentis Goethe/Night Black, because it has a dark green cast to it. meanwhile, someone else (less traditional) would look askance at you choosing it because it's a black ink and that's too 'stuffy,' or something.
ThoperSought Its been a few years since I've been out of the military, but I assume if I went in with a document written in something other than black it would be highly frowned up on LOL. The only colors we used were black and red only for No-Go's. Otherwise we were stuck with black ink only...yes it was very dull and boring and the pens the military supplied were pretty horrible. Where I work now, I could use any color I want if I chose to...however I'm very limited to certain pens now as I fill out multi-part forms which are not fountain pen friendly...so I don't use fountain pens at work. I did try a Noodlers Creaper Rollerball but that thing failed in about a month so once again I'm using the cheap junk ballpoint pens at work as I refuse to take my replacement Noodlers Rollerball to work...as a matter of fact I haven't even bothered to put ink in it I don't want to break this one either HAHA. So I think I'll limit my fountain pen use to around the house in journals and such. Where I'm free to write with whatever color I want that day :).
You have a good convo going on here, just to add to it, in my experience it rarely matters what color something is signed in. I usually just ask if it's an important document. In my business, most everything is just formalities (a lot is handshakes and word of mouth), nothing government or military. -Brian
I usually carry my Ahab unless I'm fairly sure things could hit me hard enough to crack it, and in those cases I carry my customized Jin Hao 750. I chucked it up in a lathe and gave it some twist and then inlaid brass where I had cut it. I had it at a metal working show and was asked about it, spent the next 30 mins talking to a fella about fountain pens and he was showing off his pen, a real beauty. All metal, titanium I think he said, that he had made himself. It wrote so nicely. I almost bought it off him, but he got sentimental at the last minute haha. I usually go with the Yu-Yake or the Noodlers Napalm for red and Elysium Blue, I absolutely love that color.
I've flown quite happily around the world with my pens without any issues - I use a Franklin Christoph 3 pen case and made sure the pens are full and the nibs are pointing upwards for takeoff and landing. I've had great success with TWSBIs, Lamys and Pilots so far :) And 100% agree on the Midori - great travelling system and paper is bullet proof no matter what ink you use plus it just looks awesome.
The Diamines 30ml will leak on the plane...I bought some overseas and had them in my check ins....luckily the shop I had bought them in had vacuum sealed them
I'm left handed, and I've had trouble with the darker red Diamines spotting on my hand even a week later, after being closed up in a notebook. this happened at least with red dragon and merlot, and maybe one other. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem, or specifically NOT had the same problem. I also wonder if it's the batch I got, or the humidity, maybe even the paper or something else.
ThoperSought Although I'm not left handed, I noticed that my Diamine Syrah would smear even after drying for a couple of days. It seems particularly bad on 3M Post-It notes. Not sure if this is a characteristic of Diamine inks or just the red dyes they use.
I'm not a lefty but have had smearing with some Diamine inks, I think the paper used is a factor here too (the smoother the more it smears). Majestic Blue is particularly smeary, though I love it anyway! -Brian
The Goulet Pen Company that's interesting. I will have to check Majestic Blue-I'm pretty sure I don't have that one. the only ones I've had a problem with are the red ones.
The Goulet Pen Company Jerry Hackett both of you mentioned the paper, and that's something I'll have to try. normal paper is usually pretty good, here, but I'm using rather different paper now, compared to the last time I used Red Dragon. I should try it out again and see how it does on Life Noble and Maruman Giuris. I suspect it might do better on the Life...
Question: Do you have to show TSA the inks because they are liquids? Is there a limit to how much/many inks you can travel with? Suggestion: Focus on fp's for sketching/journaling. I think there's been a renaissance in that area. BTW: Great series.
I would put the vial in your liquids bag to be on the safe side. That being said I have traveled with inked up water brushes and the TSA doesn’t usually bother with it, however I did have a European airport have me empty them. Basically error on the side of caution unless willing to loose the ink
Hey Brian, as an overweight guy, I am inspired by your weight loss. I have been watching you for years and long while back finally subscribed. Though it doesn't fit the theme of your channel, I would really appreciate how you lost the weight. What worked for you? thanks!
@@MisterChris1978 it really is that simple though. It's a matter of discipline and applying it 365 days a year. But mainly you can't outrun or outlift a bad diet. If you say "it doesn't work", you are clearly being dishonest with yourself or uninformed to what a good diet is.

I got a metropolitan fine nib but I'm really disappointed I don't know if its just mine but it is scratchy and often skips. I even find my platinum preppy 0.3 smoother. What's happening?
Madmarty mine works very well, may be yours. I’ve dropped one before and damaged the nib, caused scratching and bad ink flow. Any chance you did the same?
Madmarty idk then, it’s a define possibility he lied or had a bad unit. I’ve never used that ink so I cants say if that’s the issue. I would say to buy your own if you wanted to see if you just don’t like the way it writes. But if you have pens that you already prefer, you may find it unnecessary. if you decide to to buy your own, those pens are a bargain given the bodies build quality.
I brought the Pilot Metropolitan with me during my vacation few weeks ago, I bought one when you showcased good affordable pens and I was impressed. even with the 100 degree weather it didn't burst/leaked like other pens. The notebook I had was the Leuchtturm 1917 Medium notebook, dot, it's for me the best paper I ever used, the quality is great. On my last day I went to a mall and saw Lamy pens sold in a bookstore, I was disappointed because the limited edition they had for display was sold out.
