P0442 Code & Canister Purge Valve Replacement | Chevy Cobalt 2005 - 2010
How the Purge Valve works:
It regulates the flow of stored fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the intake manifold. It also prevents fuel vapors from the fuel tank.
How the Purge Valve doesn't work:
A failed purge valve can allow the engine to draw in raw fuel resulting in a very rich fuel mixture, black smoke from the exhaust, and increased fuel consumption.

Also, you may need to replace your fuel cap because it could be defective by small leak
Code reset procedure:
1. Turn ignition on but do not start engine
2. Press the "information" and "reset" buttons on the DIC at the same time to enter the personalization menu
3. Press the "information" button to scroll through the personalization menu modes until the DIC display shows "OIL-LIFE RESET"
4. Press and hold the "reset" button until the DIC display shows "ACNOWLEDGED" this will tell you the system has been reset
5. Turn off ignition

i have the same code the guy at the parts store said try gas cap first i did and clear the code but after a few days code came back so going to order part thanks for the how to !!!

Do you have to clear the code after ?
no you don't, when you drive your car and get it up to a certain speed, it will clear itself. This is what the garage told me but if you have the ability to clear it, that would make it faster

Well I already replaced the fuel cap so hopefully the new purge valve resolves the light. Did you have to have the code cleared or did it go away on its own?
some say it will clear on its own after you drive it above a certain speed, that didn't happen for me. I had to clear them
don't forget, I have the directions body of this video how to clear the codes.
I changed the evap canister valve, but light is still on. Now I'm changing the canister

I have a very noisy evap purge solenoid. If i disconnect the plug it stops. If i disconnect the canister side hose the noise stops. Do you know Why this is?

@Lewisbrantner I bought a new one when I did a tune up on this car. Basically because there have bern a lot of issue's with this ecotec engine.
I just put the old one back on and the noise is gone.

My evapros will not connect that little clip that is connected to a hose is broken and I'm trying everything I can find to hold it on does anybody have any ideas that little clip that the boy was holding That's the one that's broken on mine please help God bless
