Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Smooth B is 100% inimitable. His flow and unmistakable baritone timbre create a completely unique style that is impeccable. His vocal delivery comes off so confident and effortless, ranking him among the timeless greats like Frank Sinatra and Slick Rick. 💯

I remember Nice n Smooth were in Columbus, Ohio some time ago. Listening to the sound check while standing outside was a good time in itself. Of course the show was epic

"I stay def beyond 2000, and my spirit will keep arousin', On new jack boys & girls, and I never had Jheri curls" - Smooth B (No Delayin') 1989. I still rap this line and tease my brother cos He had Jheri curls in 1984-1985 lmao.

❤❤❤❤ my favorite storyteller. Hip Hop legend; Bronx native. He need another outlet besides music to tell his stories. There are too many voices out here but his is sorely needed.

Peace! I never really got into them in their hey day. But before Dave passed, he said his favorite group was Nice and Smooth. I was thinking "over Run-DMC, EPMD, and his own group?" I jumped on Tidal and listened to their whole catalog. I am now an official Nice & Smooth fan😅 Salud!

Salute and flowers to the gang over at Unique Access, Smooth B., and of course the culture.
I haven't watched the whole thing because my daughter came down for breakfast, but I was as entertained as usual.
Thanks for taking the time to bring these artists to us and for the work involved to bring us these gems.

This interview was so dope. Great stories from Smooth B. Dude has always been a unique and creative individual. Met him and Greg Nice many years ago in downtown Greensboro with my friend, Wax Master Torey (RIP). It was an honor to hang with them at that time in my life. Awesome memory.
