I’ve had 15+ subluxations, 2 knee dislocations that were both out for hours, and MPFL Reconstruction knee surgery! This stuff does its job, and gives me confidence to get back into the game!
Drew, some people have an allergy to the glue that is on rigid tape, there are a number of different manufacturers that use different glues as well as hypoallergenic ones. or you can use fixamul/hyperfix under wraps to get around that issue, I find that as long as the tape is removed directly after the match, it's not an issue. it is not good for some people's skin to have it on for extended periods.
thankss for this video! i’ve been looking for a way to tape up my knee while i dance. i dislocated my kneecap months ago and my knee brace is way too bulky to wear while i dance! going to try this soon.
Would you recommend using the Brown tape directly on the skin like that? Maybe it's not the same leuko tape I use, because that tape (the one I've got) is not particularly easy on the skin, needs Another, milder one underneath. Sorry if I'm not making 100% sense here, I'm Swedish. :)
I just got knee surgery for my Losse Patella and Patella displacement. I could completely move my knee cap to the outside without pain and with ease. I will tape my knee like this when I'm back on the field!! Cheers
No, this will do nothing for your ACL, we can do a taping that restricts the hyper extension of your knee so as to not put your knee in a position to stress your ACL, but it is quite restrictive, when the new season starts I will do another vid on it and a few others.
+Tai Pan-Thanks for the comments, Me too, I let my accreditation lapse, so I am doing my level 1 trainer all over again, in a couple of weeks in Adelaide, where are you based at?
we generally put this tape on before the warm up for a game, usually by the end of the game, it is not as structurally sound as when first taped, a knee guard would certainly help to keep the integrity of the tape
Hey mate, love the vid, thanks for posting. Just wondering if the patella will ALWAYS sublux to the outside? Or could it go inward too? If so, is it common to use the J strap on the inside as well as or instead of? Sorry if this is a confusing question. Cheers mate.
@valdiviamaguito the brown tape is just a rigid sports strapping tape, 38mm wide (1 1/2') The overwrap tape is an elastic adheshive bandage 75mm (3") Kinesio tape is good, but not really designed for joints, more for muscles, I don't think that it would be the right application for a tracking patella. Cam
My daughter had same issue .. her left knee cap move freely left to right... and the orthopedic told us her long bone in leg is a bit twisted which is making the knee muscle lose... and said she would go for v8 plate surgery... what would you say abt it?
Laila Laila, I'm sure the orthopaedic surgeon would know a lot more than a plumber that throws a bit of strapping tape around on weekends. This taping technique is treating the symptoms, not actually addressing the root cause. I always push my athletes to get any injury assessed by professionals before I tape anything.
i like this idea iv awalys had my knees dislocate since i was a child. this idea help me. i had surgry to fix it when i was 17 but it had the worst dislocation today at age 28.
Ok i sure will i am still very sore from yesterdays fall i need to pick up some of this tape today. Mine gets so bad where i fall all the time. And i have scrapes and sores on my right side from falling yesterday. If it gets worse will have to go back to the doctor and get a CAT Scan or MRI.
Have you been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? Frequent dislocations are a huge sign of EDS and would encourage you to look into it if you haven't aready.
I have never been told that by my doctor. I do know they said it was called jumpers knee. But sometimes it gets bad if i dont exersise. I found out from my birth family since i am adoped i dont know much medical information. I will look into that. I plan to have children in the next few years. I am doing better since my fall i am getting a cat scan of my hip this weekend since i had some other issues going on. I do dislocate my joints quite often and its a bit painfull. Usualy my left side my hips or my knees. Iv never known why but it happens randomly. When i was young i did swim a lot and was on swim teams and won metals and ribions and was very good but had to stop bc of my knee problems. Thank you for the consern i hope this cat scan goes well on my abdominal area. I am having pain in that area near my left hip for some time know since that dislocation.
@rugbynut65 cheers mate, this is gonna be saving me a hell of a lot of pain for my rugby game this weekend. just wondering how much this type of taping can affect flexibility and speed or if there's any tricks so it doesn't slow me down too much? im a union hooker so i can't afford to lose what little i have! haha
my taping on here is all structural, but I use K tape as well, I haven't found it much good on joints but I have been really surprised at how effective it is on muscle groups. It is a bit bizarre how it works, so much so that my guys call it voodoo tape. normally, any meniscus problems are only fixed by really long term rest or more often, surgury. good luck
It's highly unlikely to dislocate medially because of the shape of your bones at the knee joint. I imagine if you did do it that way then you may have done more serious damage. But he's right. Taping is just about logic, just position it anywhere to prevent the movement that may/has caused harm.
Would this require a knee brace over the top or will the taping be 100% secure and prevent a knee dislocation ? Also how long would this taping technique last in the way of having it on without removal without getiing it wet. 1 Day or a few days ? or even maybe a week? Please reply
Thank you, its a lateral meniscus tear so i wasnt sure about any lateral taping. What are your thoughts on kt tape, been searching for athletic tape and only a few come up compared to all the kineso tape. Heard kt tape could be bunk
hi, i'm a brazilian boy and i have this problem too. now i'm using kinesio taping, but i think that method is more safe when i'm playing soccer. i want to know what's the name of the both "taping", the beige and white. please answer me asap. thank you very much
I don't know what local brands you would have there, but leuko or biersdorf is an international company, maybe you can get to a pharmacy and order it from them
I have a dislocation of the patella is there special taping you use to support the patella any help would be very much appreciated I been in pain for months with it and doctors havent given me a brace or anything for it
I am a rugby player from turkey , recentley I teared my ACL so this taping system can help me ? otherwise can you recommend any other taping system . thank you .
this is to stop the patella from dislocating, if your surgery was a success, it is doing the same sort of thing, (trying to stop dislocation), so it is worth a try to see for yourself if it is necessary, but to be honest, if your surgery went well and you did your rehab you shouldn't need a guard or tape, check with your Physiotherapist to see what they think you should do.
awesome, there is such a wide variety of sports and athletes that I hear from, please let me know how it goes and if there are any problems from it. cheers
Hi mate, I would be really grateful to get your opinion on my situation and the best prevention in the future. I have dislocated both knees about 2-3 times each with the last one being a month ago (time before this was 3 years ago). Apart from the dislocation I have no knee pain and am able to fully squat ect with no pain. I do Thai boxing so am constantly on one leg kicking, kneeing ect, having legs kicked tripped. and the most recent dislocation was from getting tangled up while stepping backwards and twisting the knee, I was able to relocate it fairly quickly and make a quick recovery - but it is so frustrating in terms of training and progress. I was Just wondering what you thought would be the best at preventing it while still giving me motion, would you recommend a taping technique or knee supports? Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)
It's an EAB, (elastic adhesive bandage) this is a hand tearable one, but you can use the material ones as well. The reason I use this is as the muscles get used, they swell and the rigid tape is too restrictive, there is a bit more give in the eab.
We have had a lot of success, since we started taping like this, not one of our athletes has had the same injury occur. good luck, and please let me know how you got on.
I wouldn't think so, I don't think there is any way to tape a meniscus at all, they are more of a shock absorber system inside the knee between the condiles
@rugbynut65 ok, but i'm using kinesio tape only while I'm in physioterapy treatment. and can you give me the name of each tape, please? thank you very much for help me.
+Diksha chauhan Chauhan, We used to do the MacConnel taping, but it was a lot more restrictive and didn't stay on as well as this one, there are merits for both, I'm not going to say this is the best way, but give this one a try and then you can make an "informed" opinion instead of just making negative comments without even trying something different.
Rob Harman it is just a 38 mm premium rigid sports tape, and then a 50mm hand tearable EAB (elastic adhesive bandage) over the top. There are many different brands, lockeroom and maxiplast are both good quality and reasonabley priced.
definitely try this one, the rigid tape should sit on the edge of the kneecap to hold it over, I look forward to hearing how it goes, he will find it a bit restrictive, but it's better than an injury, if he does dislocate it, just straighten out the leg and it will pop back into place, don't bang on it!
well give this one a go, hopefully you won't do it again, if you are unfortunate enough to have it happen again, straighten your leg immediately and it will pop back into place on it's own. Good luck
I’ve had 15+ subluxations, 2 knee dislocations that were both out for hours, and MPFL Reconstruction knee surgery! This stuff does its job, and gives me confidence to get back into the game!
Same kinda thing same exact surgery on both knees!
Thanks for this video , was by far the most effective for my knee situation and recovery!! 10/10
cheers mate, I'm always happy to hear any feedback.
Ur a very good human bean
thankss for this video! i’ve been looking for a way to tape up my knee while i dance. i dislocated my kneecap months ago and my knee brace is way too bulky to wear while i dance! going to try this soon.
amber nicole cool, let me know how it goes, good luck
How did it go Amber?
Graet vids. I had to do some strapping for an AFL team and hadn't done any before. Watched your videos and a bit of practice and nailed it. Thank you.
Joanna, the brown tape is 38mm rigid sports tape, the overwrap is a hand tearable elastic adhesive bandage.

That VOILA! was soo assuring
Thank you for sharing this! Gonna try this on my son this year for Football 🏈
Good on you Billy, let me know how it goes please
Thanks for the lesson, I,ll be doing this for one of our boys in the morning.Thanx again.
I just got knee surgery for my Losse Patella and Patella displacement. I could completely move my knee cap to the outside without pain and with ease. I will tape my knee like this when I'm back on the field!! Cheers
Thank you for posting, it has reallt helped my knee !
Just wow
Most successful technique for instability

Love you strapping/taping vids RUGBYNUT65, just about to do Sport Trainer L1 then L2 as well. Using your vids as a great reference and training point.
+Tai Pan-Thanks for the comments, Me too, I let my accreditation lapse, so I am doing my level 1 trainer all over again, in a couple of weeks in Adelaide, where are you based at?
Great video.. good feeback.. thankyou very much for being a top human being
It's just a bit of spray on tape adhesive, we just use a ball grip spray, it's cheaper.
no worries mate, happy to help, any questions, just ask
we generally put this tape on before the warm up for a game, usually by the end of the game, it is not as structurally sound as when first taped, a knee guard would certainly help to keep the integrity of the tape
I'm quessing this works for all sports? Not just rugby?

I've had knee surgery to prevent both knees from dislocating, I was wondering, where do you order the tape from? Any advice would be great thanks!
Good luck Anne, please let me know how it goes. Cam
What are the 2 types of tape that you used? Thanks!
i like this idea iv awalys had my knees dislocate since i was a child. this idea help me. i had surgry to fix it when i was 17 but it had the worst dislocation today at age 28.

what kind of tape are you using?

Is there any brace available to aviod future patella dislocation
@joeyleg cheers mate, too true, if it doesn't stick, it doesn't work basically. I'm all about old school
I have a dislocation of the patella is there special taping you use to support the patella any help would be very much appreciated I been in pain for months with it and doctors havent given me a brace or anything for it
Will this help knee subluxations? my knee cap will pop out of its groove in the front. need to find a way to prevent it
Tommy Pechawis that's exactly what it's designed to do

38mm rigid tape (brown) 75cm elastic adhesive bandage
I am looking forward for your new video then . thanks a lot
Super bueno!!! Gracias mate!
What is the first tape you use for the two bands (above calf, below hamstring)?
It's an EAB, (elastic adhesive bandage) this is a hand tearable one, but you can use the material ones as well. The reason I use this is as the muscles get used, they swell and the rigid tape is too restrictive, there is a bit more give in the eab.
Will I be able to play competitive basketball with this without dislocating my knee again?
We have had a lot of success, since we started taping like this, not one of our athletes has had the same injury occur. good luck, and please let me know how you got on.
I wouldn't think so, I don't think there is any way to tape a meniscus at all, they are more of a shock absorber system inside the knee between the condiles
At what angle should the knee be when taping? Roughly how much flex?
@dfitisemanu . I've never seen it go to the inside, but you would just reverse it, I imagine it would work
@rugbynut65 ok, but i'm using kinesio tape only while I'm in physioterapy treatment. and can you give me the name of each tape, please? thank you very much for help me.
Will this work for a lateral meniscus tear?
whats the thing you put before the tape
My knee pops out with a j brace on. Will this help?
I dislocated my patella yesterday would this be good enough if strapping and a knee brace for a game on saturday
Finley, sure, that is what it's supposed to do, a knee brace over the top will help to hold it in position as well.
wow ur one tough cookie if you played a week later ahaha
Thank youuuuu
I don't know, I'm not in the UK. I'm not selling anything, just showing some techniques in taping, try your local pharmacy
in a neutral position, just so the the knee cap can be moved by hand
I think for patellar dislocation patellar taping which is also called macconnel taping is best yet it is little costly but quiet effective
Where do you buy EAB tape?
Can you put the tape right on skin
yes, unless you get direct bonding with the skin, you will not achieve your desired outcome.
try a pharmacy Liam, or a sports medicine supply company
broken patella can bend100% after surgery???
I'm a trainer, not a physio or doctor mate, get it checked by a professional, not someone on the intetnet
we use it to stop patella dislocation, try it and see
May I ask what tapes did u use ? Thank you.
Flex tape
@rugbynut65 ok, thank you very much. great video
Where could you buy these tapes from in the UK?
Did he just put leukotape directly on the skin?
It's a premium rigid sports tape, how are you going to get adhesion to the skin otherwise?
@@cameronwray9200 by laying down coverroll first. Must not be leukotape then.
@@Drewdownkali you need the adhesive tape for proprioception, if the tape isn't sticking on skin, it will not work
@@cameronwray9200 well hopefully it's not actually leukotape
@@Drewdownkali leuko is a brand name, they make a lot of tapes, what is your concern with putting tape directly on the skin anyway?
My knee dislocates every time i straigten my leg. Sadly even that cant hold my knee in place, it goes right under it
Have you ever been evaluated for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome?
Great
What are the tapes you use mate thanks
Rob Harman it is just a 38 mm premium rigid sports tape, and then a 50mm hand tearable EAB (elastic adhesive bandage) over the top. There are many different brands, lockeroom and maxiplast are both good quality and reasonabley priced.
rugbynut65 thanks mate my lad has problem your video seems best advice we tried elasticated tape but came out again 😐😐

How did it go Rob?
¡de nada amigo
booo, go the reds! cheers mate
I have dislocated my patella twice. It is FUCKING killing me
well give this one a go, hopefully you won't do it again, if you are unfortunate enough to have it happen again, straighten your leg immediately and it will pop back into place on it's own. Good luck
camwray65 thanks :D
Yeah, its been happening to me for a few years now at 3-4 times a year. This last one made me decide to find how to prevent it.
give it a go and let me know how it went, what sport are you involved with?
Likea pro
