Yeah, there was no space for a bigger spring, so I tightened everything with a screw I made. This made the handle resisting more and keeping it tight and in place. Heusinkveld handbrake is almost double the price and I am sure they got the tolerances right, but still, double the price. :)
Great improvement to a sloppy handbrake, certainly worth the money now after your mods. I think that the clearance was intended by the manufacturer to compensate for the fact that the angle changes as you pull the lever, so the push rod is not all the way perpendicular to the load cell through the cycle. The stiffer rubber helped because you now have less motion and less variation.

Good clearance is expensive, this way it is much cheaper for them to produce. This is the only reason.
