Local Notifications out of FileMaker Go is truly an exciting offering because it means for the first time ever, we have "an official and legitimate iOS alert" that can be "queued up" with FileMaker Go in the background or nor running at all! Doing this video allowed me to brush up on how notifications actually work and I hadn't realized just how many options you have until exploring it as deeply as I've done here. I like that FileMaker is taking advantage of more and more native features of the iOS so we can bring this to the customer/end user. You may want to check out the video I did on the FileMaker Go "GetSensor" function too which was another eye-opening experience for me in doing that video as well (th-cam.com/video/lSHE-qXRuUs/w-d-xo.html&vl=de). Thanks for watching! - Marc

      Hi Marc
Great video! Thanks for making it.
I do have one question if you don't mind. (Ok, a few related questions.)
Can a Pro user create a notification that a GO user will receive?
For example if a Pro user creates a new Calendar Event for a GO user, can a notification be created for the GO user to say "Check your calendar, you have a new event!", and the attached script could take the GO user directly to the detail view of the new event?
I guess that leads to to another question, can a Pro user create a notification that is targeted to a specific GO user?
From the video it looks like the answer is no. It appeared that the notification has to be initiated on the GO device.
Could the above be accomplished using Install On Timer that runs on GO. But then the question is does Install On Timer run if GO is in the background?

      Hi IT Vortex,
Ultimately, only FileMaker Go can queue up notifications directly. However, some workarounds could come close to accomplishing nearly the same result. One idea would be for a Pro/Advanced user to add a record in a "notifications table" associated with a given user. Then when the Go user opens up the system for the first time or during a given process they might be running in the system, a script could then send any notifications as a result of the new records in the notifications table.
On that same idea, the Go user could open up to a script that sets an on-timer script step that could check the notifications table every 60 seconds or so for new records that are assigned to them. I think this would be a good workaround (not quite what we are looking for exactly), but very close.

      Thanks Marc
I definitely plan to experiment with the Install On Timer script to see if I can get it to notify based on new or modified events for the user. Hopefully while the app is in the background.

Hi IT Vortex. Your question has inspired us to make another video on this subject because we think people are going to want to learn more the options to send notifications to FileMaker Go users and wanted to take a moment to share what we do here at Productive Computing on this as well. Have a look: th-cam.com/video/foFv_K-AdCQ/w-d-xo.html

Great Video! You sad it is possible to use "Configure Region Monitor Script" with the new local Notification function. But how is it possible? If you read the description of "Configure Region Monitor Script" FileMaker say this function doesn't work in the Background.

I followed this video and was testing it on my device. One thing that I noticed is the push notification does not go out to all devices.
Example: I add a project as the manager and want that Tech Staff to respond to that ticket and all tech staff receive that pushed notification. Is this possible?

Scratch that! Looks like you answered it in another video. Thanks!

Hi Josh, yes, as you already noticed in your new comment, we had others asking that very same question prompting another video: th-cam.com/video/foFv_K-AdCQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for your question and thanks for watching!

I have a question: If you have a plumbing business for example with 5 plumbers. And you want IOS notifications to go out to field personnel on Filemaker go 17. This would be from the server for instance after a customer logs in via WebDirect and requests a new job.
But you only want a phone notification to pop up on the user/plumbers phone that is assigned to that customer. In other words I think this feature sends out an iPhone pop up to everyone who uses Filemaker go, I don’t see a way to designate which signed in user gets a local notification. and not send out notifications to everyones iPhone.
Also do these notifications work when originated from a server script I.E. a web login to WebDirect by the customer requesting a new plumbing job? I can’t get a pop up notification to appear when initiated from the server script state. I notice Filemaker says it’s not server compatible. but it doesn’t say if that means the server script can’t initiate a notification to the local Filemaker GO users. …..
This feature doesn’t seem very useful if the server can’t create an IOS notification. Or what is the work-around if the server can’t do IOS notifications.
I know every time a Plumber opens Filemaker go, there could be a script to catch a new customer request and initiate an IOS notification. But thats silly since the purpose of the notification is to work in the background when the plumber isn’t in the filmmaker go app.

Hi Matthew. Great question. So great in fact, that it has inspired me to make a video about it. Stay tuned - we'll release tomorrow 6/13/2018.

Hi Matthew. As promised, here is the video that goes a bit further in an attempt to answer some of your questions along with questions others might have on the topic. You can find the video here: th-cam.com/video/foFv_K-AdCQ/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
