I got the opportunity to go to a Korean Festival in LA back in 2015 for my birthday and Mamamoo (before they sky rocketed into popularity) was one of the groups that was going to perform (along with Esna). I was an absolute stan the moment they dropped their debut mv. I fell in love. When I got to see them at that festival, I got super lucky that Moonbyul (who happens to be my bias) spotted me before their set, in a corner where I was very uncomfortable because 1. I have severe social anxiety (which ofc everyone asks "why go then" but it was an experience, for my birthday I wasnt going to miss) and also 2. I have degenerative joint disease, and my back is incredibly painful when I stand for too long, so she asked someone (I assume management or the hosts of the festival) if I could sit on the edge of the stage in a chair next to where they were performing (of course out of the way) and I will never forget how grateful I felt, because I was in mountains of pain and of all people, she was the one that realized I was in need of help. After that I truly knew I picked the right group to stan AND after their performance, she smiled at me and gave me her fan that she used throughout the night. And I not only CRIED, I also nearly died.

Mamamoo are not underrated since a long time ago. there are so much to say and it will take a while so i'll say only 1 thing: watch their 1st Immortal Songs 2 appearance(6 months after their debut) and look how the veteran singers talk about them(especially after they finished their performance) "Immortal Songs 2 | 불후의 명곡 2: Composer Km Yeonggwang Special (2015.1.31)". 2 of them even said they will win rookie of the year for 2015, and they won. they don't make live shows in the West even before covid so they don't have big international fanbase like BTS. you see BTS now and you think that this is how they are since their debut? nope. BTS were like Mamamoo. good in Korea but not internationally. BTS 1st 2 albums sold 5,000 and 6,000 and not 2+ million like they sell now. but they started doing live shows in the West, appear in late night shows, etc so they gained international fanbase.
This was their first concert and they sounds like veteran singers and having fun on the stage like they were born on it
All of Mamamoos immortal songs performances are something else. They set the bar high for a lot of girl groups so much that a lot of girl groups have said they find them so intimidating that they don’t really like to go up against them because they know how good vocallythey are a lot of them look up to Mamamoo and their coolness that they have to set themselves apart from the norm. If you guys watch more of their immortal songs I know you guys will fall in love with them completely because each performance they outdo themselves. Not to mention the fact that they have won almost all of the immortal songs competition. I was so hyped that i saw this notif I watched this as soon as I woke up I haven’t even brushed my teeth yet lol

It was fun watching your reaction from a musician’s standpoint. People are usually blown away by their talent, but also don’t realize how amazing they are performing with a live band and actually enjoying their performance. They’re not just singing, they’re living and breathing it. That’s what so charismatic about watching them. Also, if this performance was a plate of food, there wouldn’t even be a plate left.

Also it is rare to see girl groups that can all sing live and are all powerful singers. In kpop girl groups, someone is assigned for vocals, someone for dance, someone for rapping and someone for center visuals. So you do not expect that everyone can sing so well. THEN MAMAMOO CAME AND DESTROYED THAT FORMULA. all of them can sing powerfully live, rap, dance and of course all are stunning visuals in their own right.

You definitely need to check out their full performance of the songs.
These songs are from the ones they performed in a show called "Immortal Songs " which is a competition where you cover old classic songs . Hence,the name of the show Immortal Songs. Only experienced singers are invited to show. They've been in the show 13 times and won thrice I think. ( I don't really remember the exact no. of times ). Each of their performance on the show gives you eargasm . 💜
They've performed 14 times in "Immortal Song 2" so far. Here's a list of their complete performances chronologically: Wait A Minute, Flying Deep into the Night Sky, Passion Flower, The Way to Sampo, Delilah, Backwoods, Love Story of A Girl, Wonderful Confession, You're Always by My Side, You in My Fading Memory, Love, Dance to the Rhythm, Violet Fragrance, and lastly, Meeting (correct me if I'm wrong!) I hope you will react to them all :D
Hwasa is my bias in Mamamoo. Her voice has that certain something that gets me every time.
This video was filmed at their first solo concerts in 2016. They've only gotten better since then. The 14 songs they performed on Immortal Songs 2 from 2015 to 2019 show their development from the scary rookies nobody wanted to go up against in the competition to the the mature pros they are today. I'd add the song I Miss You on Queendom from 2019 as the cherry on top of the vocal sundae and a must-see live performance. If I had to pick two Immortal Songs performances I'd go with Delilah and Backwoods as contrasting songs that display their creativity as arrangers besides being vocal showcases. 😂

I tear up sometimes when I watch their live performances and the moment you said "how are they not big", a big tear just dropped and I totally agree like they should be very popular internationally. They are popular in Korea but they deserve so much more. I am so proud of them. I don't want to be exaggerated but they're a huge part of my life now. I love their music so much

MAMAMOO worked really hard. Yes they are talented but they also put in the work. Since you both like Mamamoo and Super Junior I’ll recommend the song “Narcissus” by Heechul and Wheein. It’s not as popular, but a great rock ballad.

Correct! It is rare, esp in kpop, where the popular ones are usually music that is too produced in technology that it does not sound humanly real anymore. Mamamoo gave us that back for main stream girl groups in kpop.

You should watch an introduction guide to get to know the members better. It's 40 minutes long, but Introducing Mamamoo by Purple Hawke is the most recent and detailed guide that really gives you an insight into the girls' personalities and talents.

Friendly reminder that Moonbyul's solo song & video Eclipse was released on Valentines Day. I believe Mamamoo is not bigger outside of South Korea is because their music cross over multiple genres and does not necessary fits the type of music that generally is trendy in most k-pop today.
