This video is 9 years old... I`ve never seen so old video in TH-cam. Well, I understood that we say when information was spoken not for us and we say when information was spoken for us.
You are so good as a teacher! I'm Brazilian and I could undantand the most things you SAID ( So, I tried to make a pun hahaha) :) Congrats! I really like your work here!!! So, you won a new subscriber
Sometimes...it's just the basics that create all the fuss and menace...But, ever since Alex told all of us the correct way to use them....I don't have any further doubts... Cheers!
very clear video ! I immediately heard which sentence was wrong but I wasn't able to give any reason WHY it was wrong. But it's all very clear now . good explanation
Hey Alex, I need to know if tell is bossy word. One they I used tell in my work and some co-workers make fun of me and they try to say that I sound to bossy.
Hello Alex, I've been searching but I still can't understand the difference between: SAID TO x TOLD. For example, should I say: he said to me or he told me?
Thaise Forte She/He told me to.. You use "told" when that person speaks to you specific, like "my mom told me to clean my room"/ reported: "she told him/her to clean his room". And you use "said" when you hear something, but that message wasnt specific for you.
But what about if someone is talking to you and you don't hear them? Wouldn't you say "What did you say" not "What did you told"? They're talking directly to you, but I guess at the same time they're saying something. Is that a special case?
You can use it as a command... Be safe! Be careful! Don't be mean! You can also use it after modal verbs... You should be careful. I'll be there at 9 o'clock. We can be better. He might be a pilot when he grows up. You have to be more serious! I hope this helps. :) Or do you means how to use was/were/is/am/are?
Thanks , but I have a question : " He said he was not sure ، but suggested that .... " Is this correct or not ! I will take this lesson tomorrow , so please can you tell me ! Sorry for my bad English and thanks again !
Remember, "He said me" is incorrect. In the same way, "He said him" is incorrect. The information in your examples here was still intended FOR someone. ("him") Use "He told him" or "He said to him." The first one is more common.
