    Other boating youtubers have much more expensive gear, higher resolution footage and supposedly superior "production values". You, on the other hand, manage to take some of the most amazing shots - mist on the canals, passing under a bridge at sunrise and so on. Amazing aesthetic sense, fantastic composition, and a genuine love of nature; can't buy that. Pure joy to watch, thank you.

    Since I am looking to buy a narrow boat (as you may recall from other comments I have made) this video was of particular interest to me, so "Thank you very much," Regards Michael

    Hello Andrew, very well this update on the questions which are put to you, I appreciate your righteousness and your respect very much, I subscribe to many youtubers who live on a boat, (I am addicted to narrowboats & widebeams), I have not yet seen someone who wanted to return to live in a house, I am talking about people who live continuously on their boat, of course other people for various reasons (professional, family, etc ...) who also have a boat, are waiting for the opportunity to be able to do so, but all of them say the same thing, they live freely and in peace. I wish you a very happy new year 2020, and that all your wishes are granted

    Great channel only just finished catching up on it all, I wish we had canals in Australia would be a wonderful life. With your batteries consider lifepo4 lithium as they last a lot longer than others and you only need for example 200ah of lithium to be equal to 400ah of agm or gel etc. So in the long run they cost less. Just a thought. Lookup Will Prowse on you tube explains solar and everything associated with it even a dummy like me understood it.Cheers looking forward to your next vlog

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and I'll certainly look up Will Prowse as I need to know more about the electrics. Sadly lithium batteries are too pricey for me at the moment, but hopefully they'll start to come down in price in the near future. I was chatting to an Australian on the cut one day who said that you do have two canals, although I don't think they were particularly long. Hope the terrible bush fires aren't affecting you.

    Very interesting and entertaining video, going to work my way through all of them, have been interested in some time of undertaking the same lifestyle once I finish my current job and will be a lone sailor for the most part, I’m thinking of a part share for a couple of years before taking the plunge to make sure it is what I want to do, did you do this and do you recommend or not think worthwhile?

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, I'm not sure I can comment as I just jumped in at the deep end - sink or swim! Yours is probably a more measured and wise approach. I think it's essential to be pragmatic and resourceful and fairly practical. I've had comments from people complaining about the stress of not being able to get tradespeople to do the work. Clearly they aren't suited to life on the cut. For me it's wonderful. I wish you well with whatever you choose.

      Tales From The Swan's Neck thanks, I have 5 years left in the Royal Navy, when I leave the kids will be grown up and I feel this will be the life for me, videos like yours just cement this more for me 👍

    When I do take the plunge into narrowboat living I think (even tho camera shy) I'd like to record my adventures, it's bound to be a comedy😂. So my question is (as I put the cart before the horse so to speak) 'what equipment would I need to record my stuff'. Have to think like this to send out my vibes to law of attraction 🤞

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Rosey, I've always been camera shy too, but you kind of get used to it whilst editing yourself. You would need a GoPro camera, an HD camcorder or dslr with a decent external microphone, a tripod (if you are doing solo), and some form of editing program. I use iMovie. Clearly you have the bug and you'll make it happen. Well done you!

    • @roseyhilton9166

    Hello sir, I posted a question on your last vlog you posted in 2021, I suppose it may have appeared rude and a little prying at that time but I found this. May 23 2021.

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Malc, I was going to reply to that question today, and I didn't think it rude. You may have got part of the answer on episode 16 though. After my relationship broke down and stress at work was becoming unbearable I was channel-hopping one night when a came across a tv program about a woman giving birth on a narrowboat with no one to help except the local narrowboat community. This got me thinking, so I watched a few TH-cam videos, and two months later I took voluntary redundancy and bought a boat...

      3 miles from Autherley Junction, and about to head north on the Shroppie. Hopefully the Llangollen in April, and the Anderton Boat Lift and the Weaver in May. But hey, my plans aren't plans, just ideas in the making

    So you signed the contract before you had the survey done? Doesn't that make it more difficult to negotiate the price down if your surveyor finds things that need doing?

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I signed the sale and purchase agreement which determines the legal obligations of both parties prior to completion. It also allows the purchaser to pull out of the agreement if the vendor isn't willing to fulfil their obligations
